Sencha Overture

Description

Green tea from the Shizuoka region of Japan. Sencha translates as 'common,' but there is nothing ordinary about this exquisite 'spider leg' tea. The latter refers to the leaves' long, slender shape. Our 'Sencha Overture' is a wonderfully delicate second flush (summer) tea whose soothing taste and fresh green scent make it a perfect everyday treat.

Story

Japan produces almost exclusively green tea, with three-quarters of its production classified as Sencha. Another fifteen percent is Bancha, a lower grade of tea made from late summer leaves. The finer varieties of Gyokuro and Matcha make up the rest. Most end in "cha," the Japanese word for tea. You may sometimes see an honorific prefix of "o" added, rendering it "o-cha." The finest types of Sencha tea also have names derived from the shape of the leaves. These are called Spider-Led or Needle-Leaf teas.

"This is a rock solid green tea. The sencha overture's stout body is the sign of a green tea workhorse. Yabba Dabba Doo!"

"I love, love, love this tea. It has a very grassy asparagus flavor and can be strong if you are one who does not like strong tea. Luckily I love strong green tea so it is perfect. "

"Perhaps this isn't the high-grade sencha most people might be seeking. However, it does have a nice, strong, grassy flavor that I just love. It's sometimes difficult for me to return to Chinese greens after having had this."
