The pygmy stegodon was discovered on the island of Flores, and was a relative of the larger Stegodon species, but suffered from insular dwarfism. They were contemporaries of the smallest Homo genus, Homo floriesiensis, who are generally known in the scientific community as 'real-life hobbits.' They are very near and dear to my heart, as they are the focus of a story I am writing, and pygmy stegodons also play a significant role.
