Exceptional Heat Retention
Cast iron's defining functional advantage is heat retention. A glazed cast iron teapot holds its temperature significantly longer than ceramic, glass, or stainless steel - keeping tea at serving temperature for 30–45 minutes after brewing, compared to 10–15 minutes for ceramic. For a slow morning, a leisurely tea session, or anyone who gets distracted between steeps, that thermal mass is a genuine practical advantage. It's also why cast iron is the right choice for teas that benefit from longer, more meditative brewing sessions.
