Why Caffeine-Free Herbal Iced Tea Belongs in Every Refrigerator

Every other iced tea category on this site contains caffeine - black, green, oolong, white, and chai all come from the Camellia sinensis plant, which naturally produces caffeine regardless of how it's processed or brewed. Herbal teas are different. They contain no Camellia sinensis at all - they're botanicals, fruits, herbs, and spices that happen to brew beautifully into something genuinely satisfying to drink cold.

That distinction matters for a surprisingly large portion of the population. Pregnant women avoiding caffeine. Children who want something more interesting than water. People who drink their last iced tea at 3pm to avoid disrupting sleep. Anyone managing anxiety, heart conditions, or other caffeine sensitivities. Caffeine-free herbal iced tea serves all of them - with the same full-leaf quality and cold brew method as everything else in the Adagio iced tea collection.

It's also worth noting that caffeine-free doesn't mean flavorless. The herbal iced tea collection includes some of the most vibrant, distinctive, and visually striking varieties in the entire iced tea lineup - piña colada, strawberry, berry, and mango cold brew into beautiful pitchers that look as good as they taste.

The Herbal Iced Tea Collection

Strawberry Iced Tea

One of the most popular varieties in the collection and one of the strongest performers across the entire iced tea catalog. Cold-brewed strawberry herbal iced tea delivers the bright, natural sweetness of ripe strawberry in a clean, caffeine-free base - immediately appealing to virtually any palate and one of the most universally well-received iced teas Adagio offers. Naturally vivid in color, naturally sweet without any added sugar, and consistently one of the top-rated caffeine-free iced teas in the collection. The right herbal iced tea to start with if you've never cold brewed herbal tea before.

Berry Iced Tea

A multi-berry cold brew that captures the full range of berry flavors in a single pouch. Cold-brewed berry herbal iced tea combines the tartness of raspberry, the sweetness of blueberry, and the brightness of other mixed berries into a deeply colored, naturally complex caffeine-free iced tea. The color alone makes it worth brewing - cold brewed berry iced tea produces one of the most visually striking pitchers in the collection. A strong choice for outdoor entertaining where the drink needs to look as impressive as it tastes.

Mango Iced Tea

Tropical, sweet, and immediately refreshing. Cold-brewed mango herbal iced tea delivers bold mango character in a completely caffeine-free base - making it accessible at any time of day and suitable for every member of a household, including children. The mango flavor comes through natural and vivid rather than artificial, cold brewing into a golden pitcher that's one of the warmest-weather drinks in the collection. A consistent bestseller among families looking for a great caffeine-free alternative to juice or soda.

Piña Colada Iced Tea

The most distinctive and fun variety in the collection. Cold-brewed piña colada herbal iced tea brings the tropical combination of pineapple and coconut into cold brew form - a caffeine-free iced tea that tastes genuinely festive without any alcohol. The pineapple-coconut combination works remarkably well in cold brew form: the coconut adds a natural creaminess to the finish while the pineapple provides the brightness. One of the most talked-about varieties in the collection and consistently one of the most popular herbal iced tea gifts for summer occasions.

Peppermint Iced Tea

Clean, cool, and invigorating. Cold-brewed peppermint herbal iced tea is the most refreshing caffeine-free iced tea in the collection - the peppermint character comes through crisp and natural over a long, cold brew extraction, producing a drink that genuinely cools you down on a hot day. Naturally sweet with no added sugar, and one of the most versatile varieties in the collection: excellent on its own, as a base for a mocktail, or paired with food. Peppermint iced tea is also one of the most popular caffeine-free iced teas for evening drinking - refreshing without any risk of disrupting sleep.

Rooibos Iced Tea

Full-bodied, naturally sweet, and unlike anything else in the collection. Cold-brewed rooibos herbal iced tea delivers the distinctive earthy sweetness of South African red bush rooibos in a caffeine-free cold brew format. Rooibos brews to a deep, warm red color that looks spectacular in a glass pitcher - bold and visually impressive in a way that makes it stand out from the fruit-forward varieties. Rich in antioxidants, naturally caffeine-free, and one of the most satisfying herbal iced teas for anyone who wants something more substantial than a fruit infusion.

Mate Iced Tea

The unique outlier in the herbal iced tea collection. Yerba mate technically contains caffeine - it's derived from a South American plant with natural caffeine content - making it the one exception in a collection that's otherwise entirely caffeine-free. Cold-brewed mate iced tea delivers a bold, earthy, slightly grassy character that's more assertive than any other herbal variety in the collection. It occupies a similar niche to green tea iced cold brew but with a distinctly South American character. Worth noting for anyone who wants a caffeine-free herbal iced tea specifically - but a genuinely compelling choice for anyone looking for something bold, unusual, and energizing.

How to Cold Brew Herbal Iced Tea

Herbal teas are among the most forgiving categories for cold brewing - there are no tannins to over-extract and no temperature sensitivities to manage:

  1. Place one quart-sized herbal iced tea pouch in a pitcher
  2. Add 32oz (one quart) of cold water
  3. Refrigerate overnight - 8 to 12 hours
  4. Remove the pouch and serve over ice

For the hot steep method, steep the pouch in 32oz of boiling water for 5–7 minutes - herbal teas can handle boiling water and longer steeping times without becoming bitter, unlike green or white tea. Remove the pouch, let cool briefly, and pour over ice. Cold brew produces a slightly more delicate and aromatic result. Hot steep produces a bolder, more concentrated flavor that works particularly well for fruit-forward varieties like strawberry and berry.

Each pouch makes one quart - four standard glasses. Cold brewed herbal iced tea keeps in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Caffeine-Free Herbal Iced Tea for Every Situation

Herbal Iced Tea for Children

The caffeine-free nature of herbal iced tea makes the entire collection suitable for children - and the fruit-forward varieties (strawberry, berry, mango) are genuinely appealing to younger palates. Cold brewed herbal iced tea is a healthier alternative to juice, soda, or flavored water: naturally sweet, naturally flavorful, and free from artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners. The piña colada variety is particularly popular with children for obvious reasons.

Herbal Iced Tea for Evening Drinking

Caffeine-free herbal iced tea is the only iced tea you can drink at 9pm without thinking twice about it. The peppermint and rooibos varieties are the strongest evening choices - peppermint for its cooling, refreshing character, rooibos for its full-bodied satisfaction. Both cold brew into pitchers that stay fresh in the refrigerator for several days, making it easy to have a ready supply of caffeine-free iced tea available whenever the evening calls for it.

Herbal Iced Tea for Entertaining

A pitcher of cold brew herbal iced tea is one of the most practical non-alcoholic drinks for outdoor entertaining - it's already made, it looks beautiful in a clear pitcher over ice, and it suits every guest regardless of caffeine sensitivity or dietary restrictions. The berry and piña colada varieties are the strongest choices for gatherings: vivid in color, festive in flavor, and impressive enough to prompt questions about what's in the pitcher.

Herbal Iced Tea as a Mocktail Base

Cold brewed herbal iced tea is one of the best bases for non-alcoholic mocktails available. The fruit-forward varieties - strawberry, berry, mango, piña colada - pair naturally with sparkling water, fresh fruit, mint, and a squeeze of citrus to create drinks that look and feel like cocktails without any alcohol. A few combinations worth trying:

  • Strawberry herbal iced tea + sparkling water + fresh basil + lemon slice - a strawberry basil spritzer
  • Berry herbal iced tea + sparkling water + frozen blackberries + mint - a berry mocktail
  • Piña colada herbal iced tea + coconut water + pineapple chunks - a tropical mocktail
  • Peppermint herbal iced tea + sparkling water + lime - a cold brew mojito mocktail
  • Mango herbal iced tea + sparkling water + chili salt rim - a mango mocktail with a kick

Herbal Iced Tea as a Gift

A selection of cold brew herbal iced tea pouches makes one of the most universally applicable iced tea gifts in the catalog - suitable for any recipient regardless of caffeine sensitivity, age, or tea knowledge. The seven-variety collection covers every flavor direction: fruity, tropical, refreshing, and bold. For a complete gift, pair a selection of herbal iced tea pouches with the Gourmet Iced Tea Starter Set, which includes the 40oz borosilicate glass pitcher needed for cold brewing.

The piña colada and berry varieties are the strongest choices as standalone herbal iced tea gifts - distinctive enough to feel special, accessible enough to suit virtually any recipient.

Cold Brew Herbal Iced Tea: Frequently Asked Questions

What cold brew herbal iced teas does Adagio offer?

Adagio offers 18 cold brew herbal iced teas: Berry Blast, Blood Orange, Blue Mango, Dragon Fruit Dream, Green Rooibos Bonita, Green Rooibos Lemonito, Passionfruit Tango, Peach Bellini, Peach Serenity, Peppermint, Piña Colada, Pomegranate Grove, Purple Papayaberry, Samurai Mate, Strawberry Lemonade, Turmeric Bliss, Watermelon Cooler, and Wild Strawberry. All come in quart-sized loose leaf cold brew pouches.

Is herbal iced tea caffeine-free?

Most herbal iced teas are made from fruits, herbs, flowers, and rooibos rather than the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, so they are naturally caffeine-free. The exception in this collection is Samurai Mate, which contains yerba mate and therefore naturally contains caffeine. Check each product page for its ingredients if you need to avoid caffeine.

How do you cold brew herbal iced tea?

Place one quart-sized pouch in a pitcher with 32 oz of cold water, refrigerate it for 8 to 12 hours, then remove the pouch and serve the tea over ice. Cold brewing gives a slightly more delicate and aromatic result.

Can you make hot-steeped herbal iced tea?

Yes. Steep a pouch in 32 oz of boiling water for 5–7 minutes, remove the pouch, let the tea cool briefly, and pour it over ice. Herbal teas can handle boiling water and longer steeping times without turning bitter the way green or white tea can, and hot steeping gives a bolder, more concentrated flavor that works well for fruit-forward varieties.

How many glasses does one herbal iced tea pouch make, and what does it cost?

Each Adagio cold brew herbal iced tea pouch makes one quart, or four standard glasses. The 18 varieties on this page are listed at 29¢ per cup.

How long does cold brewed herbal iced tea keep?

Cold brewed herbal iced tea keeps in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep it covered so it does not absorb refrigerator odors.

What are the best reviewed herbal iced teas?

Berry Blast and Wild Strawberry have the highest customer scores in the collection, at 97, followed by Blood Orange, Dragon Fruit Dream, Peach Serenity, and Purple Papayaberry at 96, and Green Rooibos Bonita, Piña Colada, Samurai Mate, and Watermelon Cooler at 95.

Is herbal iced tea suitable for evenings, children, or pregnancy?

Because most herbal iced teas are caffeine-free, they suit evening drinking and many households with children, and the fruit-flavored varieties are easy to enjoy without added sugar. Check each tea’s ingredients, since some contain herbs or botanicals, and ask a doctor about herbal teas during pregnancy or if you take medication. Samurai Mate contains caffeine, so it is not an evening or children’s choice.

Can you make mocktails with herbal iced tea?

Yes. Cold brewed herbal iced tea makes a good non-alcoholic cocktail base, for example a strawberry iced tea with sparkling water, basil, and a lemon slice, a peppermint iced tea with sparkling water and lime for a mojito-style drink, or a piña colada iced tea with coconut water and pineapple chunks for a tropical mocktail.

Does herbal iced tea need sweetener?

Many people find cold brew herbal iced tea flavorful enough to drink plain, especially the fruit-flavored varieties. If you want it sweeter, add a little honey or sugar to taste.
