One story says Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí created it as a treat to bolster the mood of his crew. Other stories claim it was simply the result of a well-trained hotel bartender, either Ramón "Monchito" Marrero or Don Ramon Portas Mingot, depending on who you ask.
