In Spanish, the phrase Pina colada means "strained pineapple". It also means a drink made from rum, coconut, pineapple, and ice, though the origins of the drink itself remain a mystery. One story says Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresi created it as a treat to bolster the mood of his crew. Other stories claim it was simply the result of a well-trained hotel bartender, either Ramon "Monchito" Marrero or Don Ramon Portas Mingot, depending on who you ask. Either way, the drink has been the tropical drink choice for many for decades, now available in tea form here.
