The compromise most tea drinkers make when they leave the house is a real one: the tea at the office, on the road, or at the airport is almost always worse than what they make at home. A travel tea infuser eliminates that compromise. Brew the same loose leaf tea you drink at home, in a tumbler that keeps it at the right temperature for hours, with no separate infuser to pack and no teabag quality ceiling to accept.
Adagio's travel tea infuser and tumbler collection covers two material options - glass and stainless steel - and several size formats for different use cases. Here's what's in the collection:
The toasTEA is Adagio's glass travel tea infuser - a double-wall borosilicate glass tumbler with a built-in stainless steel infuser basket and a leak-proof lid. It's the travel tea infuser for anyone who wants the full loose leaf experience on the go: you can watch the tea steep and change color through the clear glass walls, the double-wall construction keeps the exterior comfortable to hold even with boiling water inside, and the stainless steel basket gives the leaves room to expand and brew properly.
For maximum insulation and durability, Adagio's stainless steel travel tea tumblers are the right choice. Stainless steel keeps hot tea significantly warmer for longer than glass - typically 4–6 hours versus 1–2 hours for double-wall glass - making stainless steel travel tea tumblers the better option for commuting, travel, or any situation where the tumbler will be away from a heat source for an extended period.
The stainless steel travel tea tumbler collection includes built-in infuser basket options for loose leaf brewing, with the same fine mesh construction as the glass models. The exterior is durable enough to handle daily bag use without concern about breakage - a real practical advantage over glass for commuters and frequent travelers.
Travel tea infusers with built-in baskets are the most practical option for on-the-go brewing - fewer pieces to manage, nothing to forget, and the infuser is always where the tumbler is. Separate infuser baskets dropped into a standard travel mug work but require carrying an additional piece and managing it at the destination. For daily commuting use, built-in is the right choice every time.
The choice between glass and stainless steel travel tea infusers comes down to two trade-offs: visual appeal versus insulation, and fragility versus durability.
Travel tea infusers and tumblers in the Adagio collection range from single-cup sizes (8–12oz) to larger formats (16oz+). The right size depends on how much tea you drink in a session and how long you need it to stay warm. A 12oz glass travel infuser is the right size for a single serving at a desk. A 16oz stainless steel tumbler is the right choice for a commute or a half-day trip where you want more tea before needing a refill.
A travel tea infuser that leaks in a bag isn't a travel tea infuser - it's a problem. Every tumbler in the Adagio collection is designed with a lid that seals securely enough for bag and backpack use. Check the lid mechanism before buying any travel tea infuser: sliding locks and screw-top lids are the most reliable options for confident leak-proof performance.
The most common travel tea infuser mistake is leaving the basket in the water after steeping is complete. Most travel infusers have a mechanism to raise or remove the basket - use it. Over-steeped tea on a commute is the one quality compromise that's entirely avoidable.
A travel tea infuser or tumbler is one of the most practical tea gifts in the catalog - particularly for a daily commuter, a frequent traveler, or anyone who's mentioned that the tea at their office or on the road is disappointing. At $19+, they sit in the sweet spot of gift pricing for this kind of practical, high-quality accessory.
The toasTEA glass travel infuser makes a particularly strong gift - it's visually distinctive enough to look like a considered gift, practical enough to earn daily use, and different enough from a standard travel mug to feel genuinely special. Pair with a loose leaf tea sampler for a complete on-the-go tea gift under $35.

A travel tea infuser is a tumbler with a built-in infuser basket, so you can brew loose leaf tea directly in the tumbler and carry it with you. It lets you drink the same loose leaf tea you make at home at the office, on the road, or while commuting, without packing a separate infuser or settling for a teabag.
Add about one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per 8 oz of water to the built-in infuser basket, pour hot water at the right temperature for the tea over the basket, and secure the lid while it steeps. Steep for about 2–3 minutes for green and white teas and 3–5 minutes for black and herbal teas, then raise or remove the basket and close the lid before you go.
Leaving the basket in the hot water keeps extracting from the leaves, which over-steeps the tea and makes it bitter. Most travel infusers let you raise or remove the basket, so use that mechanism as soon as the tea has steeped for the recommended time.
It depends on the material and design. Double-wall glass travel infusers typically keep tea warm for about 1–2 hours, while stainless steel tumblers typically keep it warm for about 4–6 hours. Actual times vary with the model, the starting water temperature, and the surrounding conditions.
Glass lets you watch the tea steep and is lighter and easy to clean, but it keeps heat for a shorter time and is more breakable, so it suits a desk, an office, or a short commute. Stainless steel keeps tea hot longer and stands up better to daily bag use, so it suits long trips, outdoor activities, and anywhere the tumbler may get knocked around.
The toasTEA is Adagio’s glass travel tea infuser, priced at $34. It is described as a double-wall borosilicate glass tumbler with a built-in stainless steel infuser basket and a leak-proof lid, and as dishwasher safe. The clear glass lets you watch the tea steep, and the double wall keeps the outside comfortable to hold.
A built-in infuser is usually more practical for travel because there are fewer pieces to carry and nothing to forget. A separate infuser basket dropped into a regular travel mug also works, but you have to carry the extra piece and handle it wherever you brew.
Travel infusers range from single-cup sizes of about 8–12 oz to larger formats of 16 oz and up. A 12 oz size suits a single serving at a desk, while a 16 oz tumbler is better for a commute or half-day trip when you want more tea before a refill.
Check the lid before you buy. Sliding locks and screw-top lids are generally the most reliable for carrying a tumbler in a bag or backpack, and a lid that seals securely is what separates a true travel infuser from one that only works at a desk. Test a new tumbler with plain water before packing it with hot tea.
Adagio’s travel collection lists five products: the iced tea tumbler at $5, the activiTEA at $19, the activiTEA 2 at $19, the moderniTEA at $24, and the toasTEA at $34.
