The origins of Earl Grey tea are shrouded in mystery. Some claim that it was a gift offered to Lord Grey when one of his men saved the life of a Chinese mandarin's son. Others claim it was a gift from an envoy, and still others that it was developed to offset the flavor of lime in the Grey family's estate in Howick Hall.
