Joan Blondell, known in the movie world as the wisecracking, ultimate dame, began her show biz career as a vaudeville baby; traveling the world with her family of performers. At 20 years old, the blue eyed blonde was a runner up in the Miss America contest, which opened a few doors and brought her to the Broadway stage, where she found immense success. Whisked away to Hollywood in 1930, Joan became one of the most popular actresses of that decade. Whether portraying a gangster's girlfriend or singing and dancing in a Busby Berkeley musical, Joan lit up the screen! She continued making movies in the 1940's and 1950's and received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1951. Appearing in more than 100 films and tv shows during her lifetime, one of her final roles was in the 1978 mega hit movie Grease. (Remember Vi the frosty waitress?) A year later, she died at 73 years of age from leukemia. Sassy, scene stealing, super talented, Joan Blondell, one of the original comediennes, and certainly the brightest.
