Adrienne Ames, another exquisite Hollywood starlet who has been long forgotten. Ames began her film career in 1927 as a stand in for another famous silent screen star, Pola Negri. However, Ames was far too pretty to be standing in the shadows. She was soon cast in small roles. But with the ushering in of talking picture, her popularity grew and she made thirty films during the 1930's. Many of these were low budget pictures; but nonetheless, she had top billing. By the end of the decade, her popularity began to fade and she retired from making movies, but when on to find success as a radio commentator in New York City. Although her film career only lasted 10 years, she packed alot of living into it, particularly with her high profile marriages and divorces. Her reputation as a glamour queen far outshone her stature as an actress. Adrienne Ames died from lung cancer at the age of 43.
