Marion Davies, former Ziegfeld Follies showgirl, gifted comedienne, and long term mistress to William Randolph Hearst began her film career in 1918. She quickly became one of the biggest stars of the 1920's. By her own account, she had 5% talent and 95% publicity, thanks to her boyfriend, who at the time was the richest, most powerful media mogul in America. Davies, was both charitable and a shrewd business woman; accumulating her own personal fortune through sound investments and real estate. After 46 movies, she retired from acting at the age of 40. Marion Davies, despite her connections, was a beloved, underrated, queen of the silver screen. She died at the age of 64 from jaw cancer. (Watch The Patsy on YouTube.)
