I selected Mambo for this blend to represent the decadence of a rich dessert or a rendezvous with a hot lover. I added the edginess Gunpowder representing the past nefarious deeds of Pirate's Alley to heart breaking tales that make you sing the blues and sway to smooth jazz. There is Currant and Red Peppercorn representing the refined and spicy taste of our cuisine. Lastly, there is nothing really close to Absinthe so Aniseed will have to make it's best representation by adding a sweet aromatic flavor that will, depending on your mood, dredge up fantasies or appease the mind.

To me the French Quarter or Vieux Carre is more of a character than an area in New Orleans. Sure, there is the Jazz and really any kind of music can be heard from any number of clubs and bars. Of course there is Bourdon Street but many people forget about the areas off Bourbon Street. There are loads of art galleries, antique shops, boutiques and... I can't even begin to tell you what's around every corner. I can go there right now and turn a corner and say, 'I've never seen this joint before! Has this place been here long?' There are overpriced grocery stores, phony and legit voodoo shops, far too many cheesy t-shirt shops and tacky but fun sex shops. Sprinkled throughout are also cigar bars, sweet shops and restaurants with food that will make you want to slap your mama. On EVERY corner you can get a drink and sure the real party starts at midnight but we're just getting loose at 2am. Why, because we're just too good of a host to make last call. Adding to our spice of life are street performers, Palm reading tea shops, Ghost Tours, Voodoo tours, Cemetery tours, and of course Vampire tours because the veil between living and dead had always been thin here. Our official cocktail of New Orleans is the Sazerac. I've seen it made different ways but my favorite is with Absinthe. To sum it up, the French Quarter is everything debauched and everything that is seductive. It is shadowy but loud and alive. It's decadent, but dangerously so. Special Thanks to Darcie C for using her expertise to help me match the flavors with my feelings.
