Representing the uptown Garden District is this light airy blend of White Peony and White Eternal Spring. I definitely get the feel of a warm spring day, before the sweltering days of summer. Taking the St. Charles streetcar uptown from Canal with the windows down and the smell of spring blooms and on the air. Far from the French Quarter this area of the city is known more for it's architecture than it's gardens.

New Eyes for the Needy was founded in 1932 by the late Julia Lawrence Terry of Short Hills, NJ. The idea originated with Mrs. Terry when she worked as a volunteer at a Red Cross food depot during the Depression. So many applicants had impaired vision that she collected discarded eyeglasses from her friends, carrying the glasses to New York in a shoe box.

The Garden District is an area of New Orleans that's best known for its architecture rather than it's gardens. Large ornate late victorian and victorian style homes line the street of the surrounding area. Complete different atmosphere than the French Quarter with old world elegance, charm and home to many local affluent families. The only place in New Orleans that kept its original streetcar line that passes on the neutral ground. (Neutral Ground, (n.) That grassy bit in the middle of a street other areas of the country referred to as the median.)
