Born Elizabeth J. Magie (1866 - 1948) in Illinois, Lizzie loved to read and write. Her father was a newspaper publisher, so it was natural for her to enjoy writing poetry and short stories. She spent some of her time as a comedian and stage actress. She is most known for her development of the game called The Landlord's Game, which was later published as Monopoly. She received a patent for the game long before she was allowed to vote. She was a feminist through and through and knew women could run businesses and invent.
