Marie Curie (1867 – 1934) was born Maria Skłodowska in Poland. Both of her parents are well-known teaches. Her family struggled against Russian Empire, but eventually were able to continue their studies. Around the age of 23, Marie and her sister financially helped each other through college in Paris, France. By 1894, she had earned two degrees. She developed an electrometer with her husband and brother. She studied two uranium minerals, pitchblende and torbernite. Her and her husband discovered polonium and radium and created the word radioactive. Unaware of the affects of radioactivity exposure led to damage of her bone marrow and her death at age 66.
