Matcha Customer Reviews

Only the finest, young, shade-grown gyokuro tea leaves are used to create matcha. The leaves are plucked and laid out flat to dry. Veins are removed and the leaves, now called tencha, are carefully ground in granite mills until they become the precious powder.

I've been using this powder to make lattes, and it works wonderfully with a little bit of honey and skim milk or heavy cream. It seems expensive, but a little bit of the powder can go a long way if you're careful.

★★★★☆

I am new to matcha, so I'm not that great at properly mixing it and end up with some clumps. The flavor is great though. Sometimes I throw a bit in smoothies.

★★★★★

Absolutely wonderful. I put it in my morning smoothy and it tastes great.

Lisa suggested this tea because I was experiencing water retention in my ankles, feet, and lower legs. She gave me all the benefits of this tea and I decided to try it. I can't rave enough about what this tea has done for me. Every morning I whip up my 'tincture' as my fiance calls it with the raspberry green or cherry green and the macha. My water retention has decreased dramatically, it has helped dramatically with regularity due to the fiber of the tea, and I am more alert. I started raving about it about one week in and my fiance decided to try it. He is up very early in the AM and works long hours. Prior to this he complained daily about how tired he was. Since mixing up his 'tincture' every morning, he has not complained about being tired and this has been 5 weeks now. He said to me about one week in 'I hate to admit this, but I think there is something to this matcha tea'. He has continued to do this every morning now for 5 weeks. Now, for a man to get in this routine and do this himself, is very telling. TRY this! It is expensive tea...but worth every penny!

It is exactly what i thought it would be. Needs a bit of sugar but super delicious! I put mine in cold milk. Note: a little bit goes a long way.

★★★★★

I've never had matcha, so I can't be called an authority, but this is a great tea! A little strange at first perhaps, but it has a charming, almond-like flavor. Almonds and seaweed, maybe. I'm going to use some of it to bake cupcakes!

Ok, so I'm still a matcha n00b, and my technique with the whisk needs some serious improvement! but this seemed like a good matcha as far as I can tell. Granted I don't really have any basis for comparison as far as matcha goes, so take a grain of salt with my review. :)

★★★★★

I really enjoy this healthy way to energize as a substitute for coffee.

★★★★☆

This is pretty good matcha. I have had better and I have had worse, but the price is reasonable.

★★★★★

This was my first time buying matcha and I've loved it! I used it to bake cupcakes as well as to drink, and both were delicious!

★☆☆☆☆

I just don't think this tea is for me, or maybe I just prepared it all wrong (probably a bit of both). It's really strong and grassy. I couldn't get past the bitterness.

★★☆☆☆

I've had much much better matcha, that was also more expensive. Usually the shade grown first picking Japanese Matcha costs around $1 per gram (!), this stuff is much less, and ... well doesn't come close to ceremonial Matcha. It has some bitterness, little to no sweatness or 'flavor' that one get with the ceremonial grade Matcha. Unfortunate, I was really excited to make this at home :-( It's also not a bright great, it's darker than I've seen before and not nearly as saturated as it should be. It's either old or low quality or both.

I haven't tried many varieties of matcha, but this tastes wonderful and fresh! It's easiest to mix if you pour a little water in, mix it into a paste, then pour the rest of the water in and mix again.

I really enjoy this matcha not only for tea but for lates as well.

★★★★☆

I love matcha and this is no exception. A little harder to mix than other matcha, but I got the hang of it. Super powerful smell, though I loved it.

★★★★★

Love the idea of getting all the benefits of long sustained energy without the crash of several cups of coffee. Clear and focused for several hours. Have passed the idea along to my oldest son in college to help cut back on the trips to Starbuck's and we are beginning to try it with our younger son and see how it helps his A.D.D. symptoms. Really likeing the idea of all the antioxidants and how it may be helpful with my fibromyalgia pain.

★★★★★

This matcha green tea is soo good. I normally will come into work and make myself a big cup for breakfast and i just wisk it with a fork, with some almond milk and honey, and have never had a problem with the matcha clumping up. Always a smooth sweet consistency.

Brillant emerald green matcha with a nice buzz from the caffeine. Enjoyable especially in a latte with soy milk!

★★★★★

This was amazing! I have tried matcha from other places, and it didn't carry the same quality, taste, or color as this one. Alone or paired with their sencha, it is an amazing green tea option. Keeps me alert, without a hang over, and tastes absolutely divine.

★★★☆☆

I never have matcha before so I thought I would give it a try. Turns out I didn't like it so I can't really comment on the quality of this tea, but it tastes better with milk as a latte.

★★★★★

Good quality matcha for the price. It's a nice light emerald color, and it tastes great in a variety of preparations. My favorite is a matcha latte with steamed milk and a splash of vanilla. Tastes great hot or iced. But the I'll definitely be buying more.

I'm not very experienced with matcha so I'm not sure where this falls on the quality scale, but I found it very palatable.

★★★★☆

It is a emerald green color which is what good matcha tea should look like. Overall I am happy with this tea and it is moderately priced. It is finely ground up with no tea leaf debris (yayy). Because Matcha is made from ground up tea leaves instead of brewing the tea leaves, it has more of a bitter taste when compared to other green tea. The bitterness is not overwhelming but if you do not like tea with any amount of bitter taste this might not be the tea for you. I personally dont like tea that is too strong, so i put slightly less than 1 teaspoon of matcha with a cup of water, it ends up being not too mild and not too bitter, but that is my taste only, you may have to tailor it to your own taste.

★★★☆☆

I'm somewhat new to matcha, and not sure about it. The taste isn't bad, but I got a strange headache after drinking a cup made with 1 tsp. I may have to play around with the amount of tea.

I'll bet there are people that will love this. I'm not one of them. It tasted like seaweed to me and the powder was very messy and got all over everything.

I've never had it before and have always wanted to try it, going from the 'proper way' to make it and another review I read. a magic bullet, halfand half (I used almond milk), hot water and some sugar (your choice) it was okay. Tastes like some other green tea mixes from well funded coffee stands. Comparing to the other reviews, there is no graininess with using the magic bullet, and it tastes like a pure, unmodified, green tea.

I was first introduced to Matcha green tea at Teavana when a friend told me about it...and I liked it a lot but, $35 for 2oz is a big thing to swallow. I happily stumbled upon Adagio and found that they were more than $10 cheaper than Teavana so, needless to say I gave it a try! And boy was I not disappointed!! Adagio's matcha is far sweeter and less bitter. I will be ordering more!!! :))

This tea carries a ,ultitude of health benefits but, I can't get around the taste. After a few days i was nearly forcing it down because I didn't want to waste matcha, lol. To each their own - I will continue buy typical teas, lol.

This is my first experience with matcha. Since I don't have a bamboo whisk, I used wooden chopsticks and was able to achieve a nice froth. This tea is quite savory, and I couldn't resist adding a little sugar. The granulated sugar ruined the froth, but was very tasty. I think I will try powdered sugar next time to create a lovely, fluffy sweet cuppa matcha.

So, I tried it with powdered sugar and it produced a rich froth. It is like having matcha and wagashi all in the same cup!

Exactly what you'd expect from a good matcha. It's really earthy and smooth. A staple in my kitchen.

★★★★☆

I understand the health benefits of consuming the whole tea leaf, so I decided to give matcha a try. Super expensive but highly reviewed. Maybe I didn't make it correctly. . . I was impressed with the color and flavor until I got to the bottom of my cup where there was a green sludge lurking which totally put me off. So, I used less then a teaspoon and whisked my tea to make sure the leaves dissolved. Better but I think I will stick to loose leaf brews.

I buy my matcha elsewhere, but decided to give this one a fair shot. It's so bland tasting...not much sweetness when sugar was added. Tried making a green tea latte with it and it didn't come out great.

★★★★☆

I've never tried matcha before, and I'm glad I gave it a go. I definitely didn't brew the perfect cup, but I got pretty close. For those who have never tried matcha before, it looks and smells an awful lot like henna. The taste is (thankfully) much better than what you'd expect from that description. It felt like a very healthy thing to be drinking which, from what I've read, is apparently true. I did start to get a bit of that grainy quality others have mentioned when I got close to the end of the cup, but for now I'll attribute that to either A, an expected result of leaving crushed tea in the cup I'm drinking, or B, my imperfect matcha skills, so either way I didn't let that influence my rating. Next time I'll try it with honey to see if it brings out any flavors I may not have noticed.

I am very glad that I was told about adagio. Having recently been bitten by the matcha bug, and growing unhappy with SB's overuse of sugar, wanted to brew my own and walked into a teavana (big mistake). 'Hard upsell' doesn't even come close to the experience we had there, and will NOT be going back. While depleting the matcha purchased there, HAD to find another vendor. When comparing the adagio matcha to numerous others including teavana's, the adagio's was much lighter in color, better tasting, and much fresher. This of course was great, and the far MORE reasonable pricing just makes it even better. Teavana is OUT, and adagio is IN. Our only complaint would be the bag it comes in. Although it does have a zip lock closure for keeping it fresh, trying to get some or all (moving to different container) can be rather difficult. OUTSTANDING: product, service, pricing, and honesty. We will be referring ALL of our tea friends here.

This was my first time trying matcha and I really love it! I usually to a teaspoon for 12oz of water, and then to make it creamy I add some half-n-half and some sugar free vanilla syrup. Kinda 'green tea latte'-ish. I don't use a whisk, instead, I add it to a little hot water in my magic bullet and blend it for about 10 seconds, then add that to my cup and finish with the rest of the water. I find that the powder gets really well incorporated that way.

★★★★★

Smooth and delicious. I used about a third teaspoon less than the recommended amount and it tasted perfect.

★★★★★

Amazing! Truly good matcha (clumps up just right) and for a fantastic price. I'll be getting it here from now on :)

★★★★☆

Being my first matcha tea, this took a bit to get used to. I can tell you right away that using a hand whisk as opposed to a 'chasen' will cause a somewhat lumpy tea due to the extremely fine powder that the matcha is in. This is a great earthy tea that's not too grassy.

★★★★★

I've been on a quest to find some good matcha to remember the time I went to Japan, and I found it! This is such great matcha I'm so glad I finally found it, it's been a long journey (3-4 years) but well worth the wait. It's also great in smoothies! A spoonful of the matcha into a smoothie of your choice!

★★★★☆

This is probably something that will grow on me. I'm not entirely sure my feeling on it, but it's a good first experience with matcha.

★★★★☆

Waiting for a whisk to make this properly but it smells wonderful and the taste is delicious! I mix it with truffles to make chocolate matcha truffles and it's so amazing!

★★★★★

I'm an avid matcha tea drinker, and have drank many different grades in my life time. Adagio's is top quality for sure--vibrant jade green color and a full rich flavor with the trademark umami aftertaste. Already ordered a huge refill bag. The price for this quality simply cannot be beat!

★★★★★

I've had matcha before while in Japan, and this was so wonderful and nostalgic I had to make several cups. I will absolutely be buying in the larger container form.

★★★☆☆

Definitely an acquired taste. But a taste I really want to acquire. I'll keep drinking it for the health benefits.

★★★★☆

Vegetal, brothy, but what I expect from a cup of good matcha. Good deal! Though I wish the packaging were different, as the powder sometimes clings stubbornly to the inside of the packet.

★★★★★

This tea is yummy! First of all, the color is just the most vibrant green--beautiful! The flavor is vegetable-y and smacks very faintly of seaweed almost, but also sort of sweet. Don't let that put you off, though. This matcha is very good! I just ordered 2 more ounces. And a whisk. (stir very well! foam is good!)

★★★★☆

I've heard great things about matcha tea. I've added honey to it and it is ok.

★★★★☆

Adagio has been my go-to place for tea for quite a number of years, and I'm never disappointed. I was greatly excited to see matcha available as I had been wanting to try some. I liked the sample price, but do NOT like the pouch. I feel that I will lose a lot of the fine powder. I LOVED the beautiful green color and the smell was like a breath of spring in the middle of a frozen winter!! I did not notice any lumps or clumps. That said, the taste and preparation will take some getting used to. For my first attempt (at 4: 30 in the morning), I used a teaspoon of powder and about 3-3.5 ounces of 170 degree water. The whisk works wonderfully well and is a joy to use. My first sip was ... a REAL 'waker-upper'!! I thought, 'OK, this definitely will need some honey.' I never really got the taste to my liking that morning, but there was no grittiness, and even the 'dregs' were not chalky or gritty. I was pleased enough to be willing to keep trying. THIS morning was MUCH better. Same procedure and amount, but this time I added some sweetened creamer. I didn't measure, but it wasn't enough to change the color of the matcha. OH MY GOODNESS!! It was delicious - so much so that I wanted MORE!!! However, I held off, not wanting to use my precious matcha before I could get more!! I intend to keep working with the Adagio matcha, but I am also going to try some other brands. I would recommend this with the caveat that you shouldn't let your first try determine if you like it or not!

★★★★★

My first experience with matcha was far from pleasant, compared to this one. Kind of buttery and sweet with some bitter. Kind of sandy texture when drinking prob my fault.

★★★☆☆

This was a alright tea. In my opinion it wasn't worth the price , but I am glad I got to try matcha for the first time.
