'Grassy' means tastes like fresh-brewed grass clippings. At least, in my opinion. But that's brewed straight, following package directions. I did not care for that taste, like at all, but I did find that it makes a nice matcha and fruit smoothie.
Only the finest, young, shade-grown gyokuro tea leaves are used to create matcha. The leaves are plucked and laid out flat to dry. Veins are removed and the leaves, now called tencha, are carefully ground in granite mills until they become the precious powder.

This is the best green tea that I have ever had in my life. It may cost a little more, but it is so worth it!!!
I served this to a Japanese guest and he said it was very high quality. It's also great for making other things with matcha like cake. I also bought the wick for preparing it and it works really well and is fun to make. This one is very special and good for special occasions and good to drink along with sweets.
Great price, good stuff. I'll be turning this into green tea ice cream soon!
This is great! It is better than the brand I received from Korea. Worth the extra money.
Great taste, you can feel the uplifting energy from it.
Naturally sweet and grassy, with a pleasantly broth-y texture. An excellent quality matcha for everyday consumption by itself, with almond milk, as a latte or in a smoothie. The health benefits and energy are ridiculous. I highly recommend getting the bamboo whisk and a good matcha bowl, it's the best way to get the matcha fully blended and frothy. Watch some online tutorials, it takes some practice but totally worth it.
Enjoy the lift this matcha tea brings - good warm or cold
Been using for 5 weeks, matcha has helped me re energize my metabolism.
Matcha is completely different...in color and in flavor and even in texture. It is absolutely scrumptious! It is like sipping on a lovely cup of green vegetable soup. A wonderfully, delightfully different treat.
Matcha is the best tea for a quick wake up and very good with some vanilla soy creamer. Definitely recommend it for anyone who likes very green tasting tea.
Absolutely sublime ~~ the scent in the air alone after opening the bag lifted my taste buds to longing ~~
I drink the Matcha in a bowl I got from the Salvation Army. I have the traditional wisk. The taste is very vegetative. Sometimes I will add a drop of stevia extract. It really makes me feel peppy. Also great add in to any smoothly.
Lightly astringent with clear mouthfeel, great by itself, or chilled with milk!
I've never had the chance to enjoy Matcha before, though I've wanted to. After researching I've found that quality matcha is exuberantly priced, and usually only sold in tins which cost nearly one hundred dollars. When I saw that I could get a $12 sample on Adagio I checked it out and the reviews stated that it was 'real' matcha. So I tried it and absolutely loved it. The sample got me about 10 servings, which is substantial. It smells incredible.
The taste was a bit bitter though. I've read that the highest quality Matcha isn't. It's not overwhelming, and I even grew to enjoy the bitterness. I've tried lower quality matcha since (and 'sweet matcha' which has added sugar because it's a lower grade) and this is worth the price.
Thanks Adagio for opening me up to the world of Matcha!
I'm not a huge matcha person myself, but I bought this as a present for my mom and she said it's fantastic.
Health benefits a big plus! But after a while, I couldn't get pass the 'green tea' taste.
Wow. I have been buying matcha green tea from the store but once I bought some from Adagio I never bought from the store again. You can really taste and see the difference in quality. I love it plain with hot water, or milk, or soy! You can even cook with it.
Very tasty, I would order this product again. Highly recommended to anyone who likes green tea.
Very smooth matcha tea. Blends well if used in food preparation and makes a lovely cup of tea. Would highly recommend.
What a surprise when I opened the package to see the vibrant green matcha powder! Sweet and earthy flavors...a great way to start my day!
What a surprise! I have had Starbucks Green Iced Tea and thought it was terrible...so I hesitated buying Matcha to make at home. I'm not sure what Starbucks is doing, but I've been drinking this for 3 days now and am addicted to this one from Adagio. It blends easily into my morning smoothie, and I enjoy it hot with a touch of steamed milk. Very nice. The energy boost is incredible, and I love the look on my co-worker's faces when they see my bright green cup of tea :)
This is the first Matcha I've tried, so I don't have a standard of comparison, but I really loved the flavor. The color indicated that it was a high quality matcha, and it was just all around fun to drink. After my experience with several teas with adagio I've come to the conclusion that they know how to do pure teas well (like this Matcha), but their flavored teas just aren't quite right (way too artificial tasting).
I fell in love with Matcha a few weeks ago. I have been using it in smoothies in the afternoon for a snack and in the morning with yogurt. I feel fantastic every day and refreshed from having it. This is a definitely a high quality matcha as it is sweet and pleasant. The price is not bad for a high quality matcha for 2 oz but I found a specialty tea shop in my hometown that sells 4 oz. for $15. I thought I would buy it on here once to compare the two. Matcha is a great healthy addition to any diet.
There is really nothing wrong with this tea other than for some reason it doesn't agree with me. I had to stop drinking it and gave the rest of mine to a friend who enjoys a cup every morning. But I think it should be packaged differently. It's such a fine powder that belongs in a container not a zip pouch that you have to reach down into with the teaspoon.
First experience with matcha! I have to say, it is a gorgeous looking tea. The bright green color reveals that you are definitely getting a different beast of tea. It's definitely got a full mouthfeel (almost creamy?) with a bright (yet earthy) taste of green leaves. This is definitely not a tea for the newbie, but for those of you who love green tea, it's a great step up. I'll be saving this one for special days, as the price is just too steep for my daily green tea fix.
Great tea didn't think I would like it but it is now my favorite tea
Vegetal, grassy, creamy. Whisk well and avoid allowing it to settle.
WHOA! I've only had Teavana's matcha which isn't too bad, but this matcha right here OMG so smooth and much sweeter than teavana's. I only got the sample but once I finish my matcha from teavana I'm ordering 2oz of this. It's even a better price!
The service for my past 2 visits has been wonderful - above and beyond for product knowledge and time spent talking with me about the products. My 2nd visit was when I purchased this tea, the Matcha Green Tea. I already knew I wanted to purchase it, but talking to the employee convinced me more that this was what I wanted - and she was right!! I thought I didn't like green tea. turns out, I don't like bad quality green tea. I love the matcha on its own, or I blend it into green smoothies. It also makes a wonderful tea latte (I use almond milk) that I look forward to as a 'treat'. The Tea is pricey, but lasts a long time. Plus, the package is super cute! Love this tea, I recommend it.
Not as fond of powdery stuff as of leaves but do add it to drinks. I agree with many other reviews that the plastic bag is not a good form for this powder. I still regret your no longer using tins for all shipments but this one especially needs a tin.
Powerboost for early morning before meditation or just when I know it is going to be an adrenaline-filled Saturday. It is like a more relaxed caffeine fix, but it lasts longer and is almost immediately noticeable. Took several tries to get the process and temperatures of everything (water, mixing bowl, 'shot glasses') and timing. But, now it is ritualistic. The flavor is so intense, like drinking chlorophyll (not chloroform!) sometimes. Wish I could afford it a few times every day, but I save it for a couple of times a week. I will use it before running 5Ks this fall.
I use 1 teaspoon in my morning smoothie, adds a nice subtle flavor
Clean and fresh after-taste, not bitter. Delicious!
Okay, so, playing 'tea roulette', and this Matcha came up. I ordered a sample pack and made a few cups. I think Matcha and I are just destined to not be a good match-a for each other. There's just something odd for me about this heavy, almost creamy mouthfeel from a very green tea. Granted, I didn't possess a Japanese tea wisk, and thus a spoon was the tool of the day (otherwise, I followed all the general instructions. Too much green for this newbie, but will probably be great for those more used to it.
I can only rate this ok because it just wasn't the tea for me. I can tell it is of high grade by the taste but its way too vegital for me to enjoy either hot or cold in a latte.
After my tea tasting at Adagio, I learned so much about Matcha! This is a hidden health gem! Take the time to look up information about Matcha and why you should have a cup every day and you will be convinced.
I love the freshness of the matcha This one is now part of my wake up routine!
To be honest, I never really use matcha for drinking. I don't have the fancy little whisk or any of that stuff. I prefer to use it for cooking or baking. This is some mighty fine matcha (literally), and it has a terrific flavor to it! For example, I made some delicious green tea waffles this morning, just by adding a tablespoon of matcha into the batter. It's fun to experiment with this stuff. Some matcha and some vanilla ice cream would make for a good green tea milkshake, I bet...
UPDATE: I was right. Some Turkey Hill All Natural vanilla ice cream milk 1 tsp matcha = one heck of a delicious green tea milkshake! :)
Being the first time having a taste of matcha, I was unaware of what was to come. The color is a bright green, reminding me of grass. The smell and flavor is what I would expect eating tea leaves to be like. A different experience compared to any other tea, and was very enjoyable. I prepared it in a regular mug, using a fork instead of a whisk. This preparation seemed to work fine.
A great matcha, good quality. Not too bitter, just appropriately astringent. A lovely green, grassy taste with a distant note of the sea.
Actually tasted better than I thought it would. This could have tasted like grass and I'd still drink it for the health benefits! Overall, it's a nice soothing subtle taste. I added a few drops of lemon juice to top it off.
Love this! I've been using it for green tea lattes, both hot and cold.
This tea is awesome. Try it cold with lemon very refreshing!
I must admit, I'm (((sprung))) on the premium brand of Aiya ... but ... Adajio's matcha is an excellent price and quality for daily use. I was shocked to love it aaaalmost as much.
Matcha has so many different uses in cooking that I can't even begin to describe how special it is. Took a few tries to mix it correctly but once I got the consistency right, it was a really good tea. It was also nice not having to worry about a steeper or a bag. .)>
New to matcha, so I can't comment on how particularly good this one is. But i like it!
It has a great smooth flavor that isn't as bitter as cafe/cooking-grade matcha. The green is very intense even a few months after ordering and tastes as fresh as it looks. The grind is fine and without debris and it whips up a good froth. My only issue is with the packaging - the matcha clogged the ziploc tops so I wasn't able to close the bag until after I used a toothpick to scrape the matcha out of the plastic lock bit. This is one tea I would suggest selling in a tin or perhaps zip the bags closed prior to sealing for shipping.
Absolutely delicious! Odd, but strangely endearing. Very green tasting, and, if not properly made, it can be lumpy. I particularily enjoy it in cupcakes, lattes, and smoothies.
I have tried several types of high quality Matcha and while DoMatcha does have a greener, green in color the price is much higher and I don't think is worth the increased cost over this tea. I have also tried Teavana's Imperial Matcha and the cost and quality I find equivalent, for the 2 oz but if you like Matcha and buy the 16 oz Adagio's Matcha is a MUCH better value. As for the Republic of Tea brand Matcha's, I found the Adagio's color is a much brighter green both in powder and in the cup (but their price is considerably lower too, just a lower quality tea). Adagio's tea foam's better than even Teavana's Imperial Matcha. I love the taste. This is a wonderful tea!
