This tea really grew on me after a few cups. The first few times I brewed it, it was actually unpleasant. I kept drinking it so it wouldn't waste, and by my fourth or fifth cup, it was one of my favorites.

★★★★★

Very nice, light mouth feel with a mellow flavor. Perfect for your morning cup.

The toasting really emphasizes the delicious smokey tobacco notes of the mate. The tea brews up dark and nutty, a little similar to coffee without any of the bitterness.

My husband says this is the first real tea I have ever given him. I am definitely ordering more. He hasn't been able to have sweet tea in over a year, so he is in heaven.

★★★★☆

Has a great toasty/malty flavor. Good on it's own, but would probably be amazing with something added.

It is nice and smoky yet the mate flavor is well preserved. I wish that the mate is not as fine so that it does not go through my tea infuser.

★★★★★

Tried this in the Hero Recover 'Exiled' Blend and had to try the toasted mate on it's own. Very strong and good with a bit of sugar.

I've always wanted to try a mate so i picked up the sample with my last order. And the mate is really good. I don't think it will become one of my new 'go to' teas but it is good and I don't think i'll shy away from blends with a mate base anymore. Edit: So i've been sick all week and most of my teas are black which i wasn't feeling. Then i remembered i had this and i threw some of this mate, a little lemon grass and then some peppermint in and it actually turned out really well. This tea makes a great base and it doesn't add too much flavor or a weird flavor. anyway i really like this tea..combined with other flavors that is.

I've had this in some blends and really liked it. Turns out I love it on its own, too. It's got a rich, nutty, earthy flavor and it's great with a little milk and sugar. Probably not to everyone's taste, but I found it very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed all of the mate teas I tried so far, with my favorite being the Mocha Nut Mate. Since this was the main ingredient in the Mocha Nut, I decided to give it a whirl. While I liked the Yerba Mate, I found it to have a bit of a strange aftertaste. The toasted version of it actually doesn't have that, and it also has a nice, almost biscuit-like flavor to it, with a nice, slight coffee aftertaste.

Bold, with less grassy taste as regular mate. It's a good afternoon pick-me-up.

★★★☆☆

A decent mate. Be careful and don't use too hot of water or steep it longer than recommended. Mate is especially sensitive to oversteeping and will be incredibly bitter. I even have a thermometer just for mate.

By far my favorite of the mate teas. The toastiness gives it a less grassy and a more nut-like flavor. I definitely reach for this one more than I do its non-roasted cousins.

★★★★☆

Pretty good. I enjoyed this, though I'm not much of a mate fan generally.

★★★★★

This might be my new fall favorite. Roasty, toasty, thick, and delicious. I drink it with a splash of milk or without, but it makes me think of woodsmoke and falling leaves. Perfect if you like smoky, dark beverages.

I was hoping some of the real bitter bite of mate would be covered somewhat by the added ingredients- but it still tastes almost exactly as any plain yerba mate- though I do detect tones of coffee-type-roast taste which is nice.

For me I'll probably mix it with the Rooibos Earl Grey or the Tulsa Chai to take off some of the edge, otherwise it's pretty good.

If you are looking for a coffee substitute, then this would probably be the drink for you- but keep in mind the intense bitter bite.

-- recommend mixing it with an herbal chai or herbal earl grey.

This tea has an earthy flavor somewhat like coffee, but with a different body and texture. It's a good pick-me-up, but not for everyone.

This mate is really nice. It's smooth and flavorful and very pleasant to drink. My one complaint (and it's not a big one) is that the leaves are so tiny that they can escape from the tea bag. Don't drink this at night though - it can rev you up!

★★★★☆

This was my first mate, so I don't have much to compare it to, but my first impression was very good! I love the nutty taste, and both the smell and the taste make me think of coffee. I just love the toasty feel of it.

I feel like I would like the mate better if I had the proper drinking vessel, but is a good flavor if you don't mind getting it in your teeth

★★★☆☆

This was alright. It reminds me of coffee but I didn't enjoy it as much as I liked the spiced mate.

★★★☆☆

Like the original, I just don't think I'm a fan. Toasted has a toastier flavor. Duh right? But still is just not my thing. Alone anyway. Good mixed with various other teas and lattes.

★★★☆☆

Not my favorite. I found it to be too strong-tasting and just not so nice.

★★★★☆

Great if you already like mate -- if you're not used to it, the flavor could be a bit off-putting. But it has a good kick, and doesn't get as cloudy as other brands of mate.

★★★★★

I have grown fond of all the mate varieties that I have tried.

★★★★☆

Definitely prefer this over the yerba mate (i am not a big mate drinker admittedly) since it tastes a LITTLE more like the kind of tea I'm used to drinking. I don't have anything more to add for people who are used to drinking mate though.

★★★★☆

Nice nutty flavor. Sometimes I crave a cup of coffee, but when I drink some I'm ultimately disappointed. I think this will be a great substitute. The Spiced Mate and Mocha Nut are good too when I want something with a little flavor.

The toasted mate has a mild sweet flavor, no my favorer but I can see why some would love it.

Mate is definitely interesting, and a great alternative to coffee- it gives you a longer energy boost with less of a caffeine spike, and it doesn't make your- or at least my - stomach upset. Flavor-wise, this plain, toasted mate is reminiscent of coffee but not as full-bodied. It might be good with some cocoa flavors added.

Loved to mix this hot with nutmeg, coriander (both ground), steamed almond milk and honey. Mmmm!

★★★★★

Mate is already powerful, but this gives a kick that is delightfully dark and warm at the same time! A great coffee substitute

★★★☆☆

I dislike coffee, and this tasted just like it. Would perhaps be better iced, as most bottled mate is sold as such. Adding a lemongrass flavor would also help.

★★★★☆

Mixed together with the cinnamon and Earl Grey Bravo. This makes up my 'Butler' tea. I love the mix of flavors.

I don't think I like the straight toasted mate quite as much as within blends.

★★★★☆

I think this is one of those drinks that could be good mixed with other herbal teas, but isn't particularly nice by itself. I'll try the spiced version another time and see if I like that one more. EDIT: Works excellently with hojicha for a toasty savory caffeine boost.

★★★★☆

This is my first taste of mate- It was a lot weaker and not nearly as bitter as the internet led me to believe. Might try hotter water next time.

Absolutely delicious, this mate is great on its own and also serves as a great base with other teas. (I recommend infusing it with fresh peaches.)

★★★★☆

It has a smooth robustness that is rather refreshing.

★★★★☆

Nice and toasty like coffee. I really like this with chocolate in the morning.

I want to like this tea, and it is pretty good, toasty and nutty with the caffeine kick of mate tea. But I ultimately think it is on the boring side. It's great when mixed in a more complex blend, and can add a nice warmth and roasted flavor. I'm just not that excited about it on its own.

I was skeptical at first about a tea that could replace my morning coffee, but I love the flavor and smell of this tea! It goes great with a little bit of creamer.

I am pretty sure I like this toasted mate even better than its original counterpart!

★★★★☆

I only drink mates occasionally because they tend to leak out of my strainers. This requires a tea bag of some sort to keep all the leaves in.

★★★★☆

I really enjoy the richness of the toasted mate, as compared to the lightness of yerba mate. I prefer the flavored toasted mate, such as mocha nut, to the plain version.

Tastes remarkably similar to coffee, but still definitely mate. Brewing at a higher temperature doesn't seem to hurt it in my experience. Blending with lapsang souchong is very good.

I really, really liked this tea! I'm not entirely sure how to best describe the flavor other than vaguely nutty, but it was very smooth and I liked the strength of it (it is a stronger tea). I would really like this as a morning tea, I think. The only downside was that the leaves were so very tiny/grain like that almost all of them ended up coming out of the strainer while steeping. Fortunately, they sank to the bottom of the mug by the time it was done steeping and stayed there while I was drinking. I ma try a different strainer next time.

★★★★☆

Very similar to coffee, but more of a flat, dry flavor. It was more bitter than I expected, maybe I steeped it at too high a temperature or for too long. Doesn't matter, I won't be drinking it plain... Sweeten and mix with hazelnut flavored black and you've got yourself a real coffee alternative!

Mixed this with Ceylon Sonata. Nice basic tea flavor with a slightly richer flavor.

★★★★☆

The chicory notes make this a wonderful experience for the senses. It could finish a bit better though. I really enjoy the spiced version of this so much more.
