This is kind of...toasty, true to its name. It's an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it. For those fond of green tea!
Brazilian toasted mate with a mellower, yet full-bodied character. Toasty, with a comforting chicory note, and hints of tobacco.

Toasted mate has a mellow nuttiness. I like to add a little honey and milk to mine.
I like this. Earthy and tasty. Even good when you forget you were steeping in and leave it for 12 minutes. :)
Something I recommend is if you are drinking this on your own you should steep one cup, poor it out, and steep it again. This is because when matte is drunk at a social gathering the host drinks the first fill of the communal cup because it is considered the worst and this is good manners. Mate on fist steep is very astringent. That being said I enjoy this toasted variety it smells nice and the roasting is not over bitter and only slightly nutty.
I was really excited to try this tea after seeing some of the reviews about it. It's a very fine tea, so my infuser wasn't very effective--something to keep in mind if that bothers you. It has a nice toasted scent, and the easiest way to describe the flavor would be to say that it is the coffee of the tea world. It's powerful, but not overwhelmingly so. This would probably be nice with some cream and sugar but I'm enjoying it too much pure to try right now.
Nice smooth flavor. Reminds me of some coffees I like. A bit hard to clean up the loose tea after brewing because it's small particles tend to get stuck in the mesh.
Not really for me. I bought a sample size, thinking I would like something toasty, even though I had not particularly liked mate the one time I'd tried it previously. The cup didn't really taste like much at all, except perhaps a bit vegetal, even when I used a higher ratio of tea to water. I also tried a higher temperature, and still was unimpressed. Oh well.
Definitely one of my favorite teas from Adagio, really tasty replacement for coffee.
I'll be honest, I got this as a gift--so I never tried it. I just want the points. But my friend really likes it if that counts for something!
This is my first mate. It has an almost pumpkiny aroma. It is also fairly energizing.
I kept getting mates in blends, and I wanted to try it on its own. It has a lovely toasty flavor to it. I love this on it's own without any milk or sugar to tone down the flavor.
I did not realize when I purchased this that it had hints of tobacco in it. The tobacco smell was very strong! I am not a smoker and therefore the smell alone of this tea made me nauseaus. I would not recommend for a non-smoker.
Bought this one for my husband and was glad he liked it because it is NOT for me! As others have mentioned, it smells of tobacco, which isn't a terrible smell but I don't care for the taste.
I forgot to brew this at a lower temperature but still enjoyed it. I have had several flavored mates and this is my first natural, albeit toasted, taste of mate. I do not see any reason I would not order it again when I need a caffeine laced, somewhat neutral tea.
I prefer this over the standard yerba mate, it's heartier and fuller.
Strong, rich, and a little nutty. A really good mate for the morning. It'll definitely help wake you up.
This tastes a lot like coffee, and unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of coffee.
This tea is so unique! It really does taste like tobacco! It does not need to steep long as it is so strong, but I do enjoy a robust warm tea in the afternoon. I take mine with a splash of whole milk.
My husband is a devout coffee drinker but wanted an alternate beverage that still delivers a dose of caffeine. He likes this mate for an afternoon tea.
I really enjoy this tea in the morning or when I need a little push to get me through the afternoon. I love how mate is brewed at a lower temperature than tea, so I can drink right away without scalding my mouth (since I'm not adding milk).
Love this! It tastes great and wakes me up just like coffee.
I really love this tea. It tastes way better than it smells (it doesn't smell like much really). The caffeine and bold earthy taste puts me in a great mood for productivity!
A mellow taste that might be a little boring compared to the other mate flavors, but certainly not bad.
This was the first mate I ever tried, and I will definitely be ordering more! It's tasty but not overwhelming, and has a much milder caffeine kick than coffee gives me. The flavor is great, and I love drinking it in the morning when I get to work. I definitely recommend it!
Love all the mate tea flavors. I just needed to try them individually so I could use them accordingly with the blends I've created and will be creating in the future! :)
Great for mixing, good on its own. Can taste it's toasted, which is nice, it is like a light smooth coffee without any bitterness. It is very easy to brew it too strong though!
This is what coffee should be (I utterly loathe coffee, but this has a coffee-ish scent without the utterly disgusting coffee taste and bitterness.) I find it better as a mixing tea than a plain tea, but by itself, it's simply a strong, simple cup with a mildly nutty, toasted flavor: definitely pleasant, and definitely best hot.
A woody, toasty tea with a hint of coffee. A great morning tea.
The aroma is very reminiscent of coffee and has a subtle roasty profile. The flavor follows closely to the nose with pleasant roasty characteristics and an added bit of nuttiness. Tasty, but can be uninspired on its own. I prefer to steep it at a higher temperature (around 185) with an added kiss of tea in the filter to give the cup a more robust flavor.
This flavored mate is fabboo! I really enjoyed the hearty robust toasty flavor.
An herbal tea that tastes like black! Wakes me up without terrible side effects. The biggest problem is how small the grounds are. They get all over the place, causing the tea to oversteep and become bitter.
I think I prefer this even to the Mocha Nut Mate, which I tried first. It's deep, toasty, replenishing and delicious.
Its strong toasted flavor reminds me a bit of coffee.
I've tried plain mate, and was fairly disappointed, but this tea was great. Rather than having a typical mate taste, it has a much stronger toasted flavor, which is pretty solid.
I've never had a mate tea before this one. it has a pleasant taste, very reminiscent of coffee -- probably because of the punch of caffeine, which was stronger than in any other tea I've tried.
I was a little nervous about this one when I first opened the bag, because I had only tried the mocha nut mate before and this smelled quite a bit different. I wasn't sure if I would like the taste on its own- but it was delicious! It definitely has some interesting coffee-esque notes, but beyond that it's hard to describe the taste as anything other than uniquely mate.
Playing around with mates has turned out to be a wonderful adventure! They are delicious, nicely robust, play well with green teas in blends, and - added bonus - you brew them at such a low temperature that I'm less likely to get my mouth burnt on a cup of mate when I get impatient.
Toasted Mate is my second favorite of the Adagio Mates that I've tried (with the top prize going to its sibling, Mocha Nut Mate), and I find it delicious. Even if I forget and brew it at too high a temperature, the burned mate kind of tastes pleasant anyway - like the scorched bits at the edges of a piece of toast. This tea is so malty - so almost-literally wheat-like - that it may not be for everybody, but I love it.
i totally love this tea. nice and gentle mid day caffeine pick me up.
Still not a fan of mate teas. Too strong for my taste buds.
I really enjoy this tea. I can still taste subtle yerba mate notes, but I love the toasted flavor that's more dominant. It does taste just a little bit like coffee, which is nice for me since I can no longer drink coffee. I actually like brewing this at a hotter temperature - it emphasizes the toasty taste.
This can be way too strong if you're not careful. Put half as much as you normally would for a cup of tea.
More of a cocoa/cinnamon/gingerbread taste than the original yerba mate, still very good.
Smooth and toasty, but definitely an acquired taste. Good for blends. Can really liven up a cup of Earl Grey and accentuate honeybush or vanilla flavors.
Much more palatable compared to the yerba mate, and reminiscent of a strong black tea. Still a bit too bitter on it's own for me, but not bad. Not something I could drink on its own, though.
one of the better mate teas i've tried. Has a perfectly roasted flavor that combines with the subtle mate flavor.
I'm an avid black tea drinker, so this was stepping out of the box for me. The flavor reminds me of coffee, nuts, and the smell of cut grass. I can't say this is my new favorite, but it was definitely worth a try!
Nice alternative to tea or coffee and I especially enjoyed its roasted flavor
It's a pretty good. I prefer the mocha nut over the toasted, but I like that I get the same kick start from coffee but not the crash afterwards. I like using this in different custom blends.
This tea smells lovely and it is lovely. Not quite strong enough to be a coffee substitute, but it might work in a pinch. It's strong and spicy and very, very good.
Very good but very strong too. I've never had one of the mate teas before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleased overall
