Wonderful alternative/addition to coffee. The toasted mate is a nice source of caffeine without the shaking hands and the (later) crashing that coffee usually results in. I add milk and sugar to my cup.
Brazilian toasted mate with a mellower, yet full-bodied character. Toasty, with a comforting chicory note, and hints of tobacco.

Wonderful alternative/addition to coffee. The toasted mate is a nice source of caffeine without the shaking hands and the (later) crashing that coffee usually results in. I add milk and sugar to my cup.
Good display of Mate. The leaf retains all its tarry characteristics, but everything has been mellowed by the toast. (Plain Mate) is to tea what Toasted Mate is to coffee. Black liquor.
I like using this mate when blending teas. It's good on its own but adds a certain smokiness to other herbal blends (mostly honeybush and rooibos teas). :3 I'd be careful not to use boiling water when steeping this as a standalone tea and follow the instructions. It gets terrifyingly bitter otherwise. (I think it's probably due to the fine grind of this particular mate).
The flavor is great. I had never tried a mate before but the dark, nutty flavor is amazing. However, the pieces are so small that they all fell right out of my infuser and into my cup! This is partially an issue with the infuser (it has slightly bigger holes than most), but the pieces are so small that I feel like this tea needs to be in a filter bag for any use.
it is very good. a nice change from regular mate.
Big fan of this. The toasting adds a lot to the mate flavor, making it richer, somewhat like coffee. Plain, or sweet with milk, both great options. Will be ordering a large bag when it comes back in stock.
A good tea for coffee drinkers trying to transition to tea! It has that nutty coffee-like flavor, but still mild like a tea.
Like most mate, this one doesn't exactly taste like most tea. Honestly, it tastes a little too earthy for my taste. (And watch out--that caffeine really will keep you awake!)
Perfectly good on occasion, just not really what I want in my daily tea.
It's kind of grassy tasting. I need to try it again to see if I was steeping it wrong.
I bought this for my mom who drinks coffee constantly because she was looking for something healthier. She loves it! It's quickly replacing her daily coffee.
this stuff tastes like toast, in the best way imaginable. I like to brew it strong for a good wake-up drink.
Nutty with an almost coffee-like feel to it, though not as bitter as coffee. As with all Mate' lower water temperature really helps. While I can't say I get the caffeine boost others do, I feel it's a good morning tea.
I doubt this will ever replace morning coffee for a serious drinker, but it is an intriguing alternative. Warm, earthy, and slightly nutty, with a noticeable boost I don't get from tea. Unlike coffee, I can drink it without sweetener or milk.
in my opinion, not as good as the mocha nut mate, but still a good coffee-like scent, and good tea
The flavor is a good and even one. Not quite what I expected (I thought it would be darker and heavier/nuttier). I'm not sure if it's strong enough for me to add sweetener or milk, but it could almost pass as a black tea when I drink it straight.
This was ok. It did remind me of drinking watered down coffee somewhat.
I would say if you like coffee but are trying to switch to drinking tea because of the health benefits. Then buy the toasted mate!
Very reminiscent of toasted barley, but not as smooth. I tried this because it was an ingredient in some great blends, and I think I still like it best as a mixer rather then on its own.
Very good. Mellow, earthy, enjoyable.
Lacks the flavor of the spiced variant however.
My first mate! Steeping it was tricky, as the plant material is very small. Make sure you've got very fine mesh on whatever you're steeping with, or use a bag. Very interesting taste. Sort of coffee-like.
Definitely caffeinated - although the rumors were right (in my experience). The caffeine did not make me jittery, and I did not crash afterwards like I do when I drink coffee. Wasn't crazy about the taste, although I'm a fan of other mate teas. I don't regret purchasing it, but I don't think I'll be doing so again.
I'm just nota fan of mate, I guess. It has a flavor reminiscent I cardboard (don't ask me how I know what cardboard tastes like. I wouldn't tell you anyway).
My first encounter with a 'mate' was very pleasant with toasted mate. Seems to offer a stimulation different from that of tea. The toasted flavor definitely ran through in a pleasing way.
I was disappointed with the lack of depth in flavor.
This is my favorite mate, really nice taste and flavor, exactly as it should be. I gave it as a gift to some friends and it worked out pretty well. Looks like you can't go wrong with this one if somebody is a mate fan.
Ehh, this tea was definitely not for me. I can't really put my finger on why I don't like it. But that doesn't mean this isn't a great tea for someone else!
I love this...sometimes I change this out for my regular cup of coffee in the morning. It has a different flavor...not sure how to describe it...but I like it!
I bought these as a gift for a friend. She loves them.
This wasn't too bad. At first, the smell out of the bag was a little off-putting - far too grassy and almost dirty for me. But once brew that smell went away and the taste was very toasty and nutty and reminiscent of coffee. Still, though, I think I prefer the Mocha Nut Mate.
This is my favorite mate, earthy but very smooth.
My first mate, and it's definitely a unique taste - surprisingly hearty with a very sweet aftertaste.
I like this tea, though I liked it better once I had mixed it with chocomint green and chocolate chip (which turned into my Hunstman blend). For me the Mocha Nut Mate is better but this is a good tea.
I am in love with this tea. I bought it on a whim but I love it. I don't even know how to describe it. It reminds me of a 'lighter' coffee without the bitterness. It's a bit nutty and a little smokey. It's definitely my favorite of the mate blends. I will be ordering it again.
Thought I would give it a try, but the mate thing is not for me. Tried three different sample packs from adagio and none of them can replace my much-loved adagio tea blends!
I'm more of a fan of the mocha nut mate, but the toasted mate is pretty good as well. It tastes a bit like coffee, and is a great drink for the morning.
the grassiness of plan mate is balanced by a maple-syrup like sweetness due to the toasting. would definitely drink again!
This is by far the best toasted mate I've ever had.
A wonderful morning or afternoon pick-me-up tea. The toasting of the mate gives the tea a great nutty and earthy quality. The finish is smooth on the palate, with a flavor not unlike a light chickory coffee. The caffeine doesn't hit you right away and you can't taste it as strongly, like you can in a black tea. But it definitely wakes you up. Not one to drink at night, unless you need an extra kick to get a project done. I bought a sample, and will definitely be getting a larger bag soon.
Unfortunately this will not be replacing my morning coffee.
This tea is amazing, I actually like it better than coffee and it's healthier. I'm looking forward to getting more.
Absolutely Love the flavor of this Mate. It is becoming one of my go to Teas!
First sip was unexpected, but subsequent sips were good. It has a roasted taste and minor bitterness. Re-steeps are weak and disappointing.
This mate is nothing exciting on its own. It is pretty good as a base to mix with other flavored/herbal teas.
Has a taste slightly reminiscent of coffee. The particles fill in the holes in the steeper though and it sometimes spills over the top into the steeping chamber.
I love toasted mates because there are times when I am not in the mood for the grassy flavor of untoasted mate. This is the best source that I have found for toasted mate that does not contain other flavors to make it taste more like coffee.
Very good for a morning pick-me-up, especially with milk and sweetener.
Very unique flavor. Good for a strong morning cup.
this one was okay but not as good as mocha nut mate
Very tasty! A very similar taste to yerba mate, except a little less grassy and, of course, a more toasty taste. Very good mate to start the day with. The low water temperature did confuse me though.
I like smelling this one almost as much as I love drinking it! Very toasty and nutty, and the hint of chicory gives it a nice bit of smokiness.
