I personally prefer flavored mate, but this is a nice, simple drink for when I want something less sweet.
Brazilian toasted mate with a mellower, yet full-bodied character. Toasty, with a comforting chicory note, and hints of tobacco.

I personally prefer flavored mate, but this is a nice, simple drink for when I want something less sweet.
Really good tea, toasty almost nutty flavor. I love it when I find a tea I can enjoy without adding any sugar and this is one of them.
This tea is so smooth and perfect. It's like Tetley except I like it. It's definitely going to be one of my top choices when I want just a plain, unflavored tea.
Like a cross between yerba mate and hojicha (I guess, the toasted-ness).
I think you have to develop a taste for this tea... Not exactly what an american taste bud likes.. but OK. Smoky and a little bitter.
My mum loves this tea so much that I ordered a full pound, but it has a different flavour than the sampler that I had ordered originally. It still tastes good just not as great.
Simple, but classic, I love this with a little cashew milk.
This was pretty good. It has a nice smokey flavor and as another reviewer said it does resemble coffee in flavor. It is not one of favorites but my husband really liked it and he doesn't like many of the teas I buy. I don't like that it went completely through the insert on my tea pot. This is one to but in the paper tea bags.
Tasted burnt to me. I will try to blend with another tea and see if it will be more palatable.
I don't have a temperature controlled kettle, so I kind of winged it and used the hot water from my Keurig to make this. I think it worked, at least well enough for me, because I really like this tea. This may sound odd for a positive review, but it kind of reminds me of the cheap black tea my mom used to buy when I was a kid, but a LOT less harsh and tannic. It's definitely smooth, but with the taste of a strong black tea. It's a flavor I like, and in fact sometimes crave. I like it with a teaspoon of sugar, for the sweet strong tea flavor.
I had first purchased a toasted mate on a recommendation from my Spanish class professor and fell in love with it right away. This was the first tea I learned to drink black, no sugar or milk added.
Adagio's toasted mate does not disappoint. The first sip was almost nostalgic for me. It has a sweet flavor that reminds me of molasses cookies. It is a full-bodied tea that is wonderful first thing in the morning or alongside mildly sweet snacks.
The one and only trouble with it is the fine pieces do not work well with any of the tea balls or strainers I have tried so far. My solution has been to skip those altogether and instead mix the tea right into the water and wait until most of it sinks. You'll still end up sipping a few pieces, but it shouldn't do any harm.
got this for my friend to take the place of coffee and he loves it!
Husband loves this coffee alternative. Great nutty flavor
Especially bad I wasn't too crazy about this tea. I guess I like a certain flavor for tea.
This is extremely similar to the yerba mate offered except it has a less grassy taste that is a bit smoother to drink. This has more potential to be mixed with other teas than the untoasted alternative if that interests you.
I liked this one a lot more than I expected to! I was a little underwhelmed by the yerba mate because I found it a little plain, but this is similar while still providing a more complex taste that I like in my drinks. It does taste a little like coffee, I suppose, but I didn't get THAT much coffee taste out of it (which is good. I dislike coffee a lot). It's got a nice earthy, toasted, nutty taste that is excellent with some sugar.
I left these seeping for a bit too long and it made the flavour almost overwhelming on the first brew. The second brew was significantly nicer This tea, I found, is pretty rich and I think adding cream or sugar would make this a delightful treat.
Warm. Tasted more coffee-like than the usual Yerba mate.
Alone it does not have much flavor, but it's the perfect accent to other great tea.
Tasted bitter, as I expected. Didn't like or dislike it, but I fell asleep a half an hour after brewing this, so I'll stick to coffee.
light and vegetal, a good cup, brew time 5 minutes at full boil.
Used as a mixer tea for the boost I need. This is a strong tea I feel it's best mixed with other teas for a nice smooth flavor.
Mate is so fine that it often filters through the tea strainer and ends up in my cup. Tastes quite good, though
I love Mate tea and the Toasted Mate from Adagio is the best I've ever had! I love the toasted, nutty taste and it is fantastic for an afternoon boost without the jitters. This tastes a bit like chicory to me which I love also. Mate is a great tea for a mental pick-me-up.
This is my favorite tea so far (I'm still sampling many teas to find my favorites). The flavor is toasty and nutty. I only wish I didn't have to get the temperature just right to make it taste great!
Me and Boyfriend have this all the time. I love it iced with a little bit of coconut milk in it.
It is not my favorite. It has a coffee type of taste to me
Love this one. The toasted flavor is a bit hit. Warms in all the right places.
I like mate when I'm feeling like coffee but don't want the acidity.
reminded me of the 1st Argentinian mate i ever tried, nice bold taste
Another home run from Adagio Teas! I have a very high caffeine sensitivity that I discovered earlier last year. I am a night owl and had to switch to a job that required me to be at work at 8 am and ready to talk to people all day. Needless to say, the coffee didn't work because I had the shakes. Toasted mate is an excellent option for those who want to wake up but without the brash and headstrong flavor of coffee. I can't quite describe the flavor, but it has a signature mate with a hint of toast (as described in the name). It's almost like bran cereal to me, but with more kick than the bland taste associated with cereal. My go to when I need a pick me up!
I like to mix this tea with regular Yerba Mate. Taste really great.
I used to be addicted to coffe but I don't drink it anymore. Mate has been a good substitute. I think I prefer my mate with more chocolate, but this is good to mix with other teas for a morning jolt.
The chicory aroma and flavor are evident. It gives energy without jitters.
It's got that earthy taste that I love but it's just too mild for me. It doesn't have anything unique to it, but it's still pretty good. It's not bad at all. I feel like it would be a good choice on a cold rainy day.
A lot richer and more complex than just regular yerba mate.
Nice earthy flavor. Tasty on it's own, but pairs well with Vanilla.
Sort of just tasted like oats. I know this is sort of the intent but I feel it lacks complexity.
A great tea for someone who likes black coffee. It is a tea that drinks like coffee.
I ordered this tea because I'm trying to cut down on my coffee intake. The first time I tried it I made it using the serving suggestion on the bag and it was okay, but not quite strong enough for my tastes. The next time I added a little more than the suggested amount and it was great!
This is one of your average any time teas. Best when you aren't wanting any strong flavors and just want something mild.
So not my cup of tea. Maybe it would be better as an addition to other teas? But on it's own...I don't like it.
Who needs coffee when this is available. In fact it tastes better than coffee.
First try this tea is bitter tasting, but I think I over steeped it. I am not sure if making it correctly will improved the flavor much. It is very smokey.
The leaves smell weakly like oats with molasses, which is about as appealing as this tea gets. Once brewed, it's bland and muddy. And the leaves are very fine-grained, so you have to waste a bag instead of using a tea ball. It's not bad enough to throw away, but it's very unexciting.
I love the subtle coconut flavor in this tea. It's is a great coffee substitute, and I like to blend it with the almond oolong and a little bit of honey and almond milk.
Interesting flavor. Kinda earthy, never had this variety before. I'd drink it again.
I bought this for my mother-in-law and there have been no complaints so far. : ).
Well, I must first tell you that this is the first time I've tried a mate.
It first reminded me of old coffee grounds or really weak coffee from the work lounge. Then after a few sips It kind of grew on me. It definitely had an earthy taste, but I did like the aftertaste--a little sweet. I'll give it another few tries to be fair.
I like acquiring new tastes, but I'm still on the fence with this one. Maybe mate just isn't my thing.
