well balanced, good with almost anything and on its own. never gets old
A playful steamed green tea from Japan. Kukicha is a blend of leaves and leaf stems. The lightness of the stems becomes a sweet sesame seed or chestnut note. Tender like soft white rice. Balanced and, for a Japanese tea, very low in astringency.

well balanced, good with almost anything and on its own. never gets old
Clean, bright, floral, a little grassy. It's delicious! 2nd steep is nearly as good as the first.
This has become my favorite tea. I don't normally like very grassy teas, but this has a smoother taste. I have actually resteeped with good results.
Hands down, my absolute favorite tea. I love this tea. I live this tea. I breathe this tea, except not really because I'm fairly certain that would constitute drowning. This tea is perfectly on par with the kukicha I also buy from a local, single-store tea shop that sources it directly - which I think speaks to a very high quality offering. I'm not a tea master (although one day, I hope...) but I do know what I like.
This tea is very easy to oversteep, but when brewed right (for me, at 80C for 2 minutes with slightly more tea leaves than recommended) it comes out smooth, soft, sweet, and deliciously warm with a welcome hint of astringency. Personally, I always steep it in a glass cup, because there's something that I find extra cozy and comforting about it that way. That's just me, though.
Ultimately, it might look like slightly neon swamp water, but dang it, it's DELICIOUS slightly neon swamp water. 10/10 would recommend.
Wow! my new favorite tea!!! Such a light green tea with wonderful full taste. It's not a strong punch in your face. It smells lovely too. I like it a lot and tried to brew it twice after finishing a cup, but it sadly is only really good for the first brew. :(
Very nude green tea, its stems but has a nice grassy flavor
Rather nutty in flavor, the sesame note definitely shines through. Delicous.
Easily one of my favorites. Smooth and bright 'grassy' flavor. If the word grassy scares you know that it probably doesn't taste like lawn clippings; it's just a good way to describe it. Very comforting. A go-to morning tea. 2 good steeps and a usable third. Handles oversteeping well.
Great grassy green tea. So fresh.. DO NOT oversteep or it tastes like grass
Appearance: Pale neon green. Decent amount of very fine tea dust at the bottom of the cup.
Aroma: Equal mix of grass and wet hay. Roasted sesame seed comes through in the second steeping.
Taste: Lightly astringent and grassy on the tip of the tongue. Grass becomes heavier in the back of the tongue with a hint of hay, sesame, and peach. The peach is more prominent in the aftertaste but the grass still shows, just barely sour as well. Second steeping almost identical to the first.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied.
Overall: Another grassy Japanese tea, which personally I am a fan of. I really like the hint of sourness in the aftertaste, like a just barely unripe fruit. Dragonwell clearly wins for regular rotation but this one is nice when you want a little more kick in a green tea, especially for half the price.
Has a nice grassy/floral taste. Little bit of a savory note also.
My daughter's favorite. I'm not a huge fan of green tea but I like this one
This is another one of my staple teas. I always have it on hand. There is a subtle natural sweetness/aroma, as well as the typical umami flavor you get in Japanese teas. Lower in caffeine. When I slowly cold-brew this in the summer, it’s so amazingly refreshing!
Very refreshing green tea especially when double brew, it has a less powerful flavor and a nice leaf scent.
This is a nice, light, bright tea. Enjoyable hot or cold
A well balance green tea is perfect for the beginner green tea drinker.
Lovely tea. Not too grassy or vegetal. As far as japanese teas go, hojicha is my favorite, but I would drink this again.
House staple. I need this tea like the Halo franchise needs Master Chief. I have this first thing in the morning even if I don't have breakfast. My stomach can handle it and I don't get jittery just a nice happy to be productive vibe. Great clean richness.
Delicious smell, first off! It s absolutely fantastic in flavor, loving it cold brewed!
This is my go to every day! Its smooth and wonderful. Grassy in the best kind of way. I like stronger brews so I do let it steep longer than recommended.
The dry tea smells like a cocktail of tropical fruit. The liquor is very bright yellow green, almost like lemonade. It smells very faintly grassy. The flavor is very faint, but slightly grassy and vegetative with a very smooth finish. This tea is best on its own without anything to dull it's subtle flavor, but the odd color and unique flavor make it very enjoyable.
Not everyone enjoys a tea that smells like fresh cut grass, but the flavor is simple and nice. And at the price, it's hard to beat
This is a very grassy tea with a smooth mouthfeel.
Love this green tea. Nice and grassy. Reminds me of the tea I drink at my favorite sushi restaurant.
Love this light, grassy tea. A new favorite, along with Sencha. Smell the dry leaves before brewing for a great sensory pick-me-up. It is like you are in a newly mown meadow!
Mid-yellow/fawn colored; herbaceous, cinnamon, fig nose; mid-body; tight tannic-like structure; long sharp green tea flavor and finish. Update 4/22/20: Murky mid-dark moss colored; herbaceous, reedy, wet hay nose; mid-big body; tight tannins; long green herbaceous finish.
Nutty, piney...great tea. It is a little harder to steep wit the grass like stems but it is an enjoyable tea
One of my favorite green teas. Difficult to describe flavor - woody, pine, grass? Delicious.
Another winner. Slightly nutty and sweet. I like to add a little bit of sugar to sweeten it up just a little bit.
Delicious cup when brewed correctly. Easy to burn though!
Love it. Beats the gyokuro I bought from David's tea. A little goes a long way also, but it doesn't seem to get bitter.
Mild, somewhat green tasting and slightly sweet aroma and taste. I like it
My favorite basic green tea. Lovely grassy flavor.
Nice addition to my Sencha collection, with a little deeper flavor. Nice after Yoga practice!
This tea was not what I was expecting from a Japanese tea. I was hoping for more of the Macha taste, but instead, it was a bit 'grassy' --which is not my cup of tea! On the other hand, I'll bet it is super healthy. Since I have so much of it, and since it is healthy, I'm going to blend this tea in with others! THAT WAY I get the health benefit. I recommend you do the same! UP
Wow, I love this. Low caffeine, really light and mellow tea, but I don't detect the rice notes they mention. It is still very green and very fresh for an evening tea. I wish I bought more!
My favorite green tea for an upset stomach or just a slow weekday afternoon.
I actually like this one a bit more than sencha. It has that lovely grassy taste but with more body.
This is an amazing tea with a high grassy flavor and a subtle fruitiness I love. It s a great way to unwind at the end of the day.
No matter what I try with this one, I always get a rather weak brew, or something that's quite a bit more bitter than I'm used to from a Japanese green. Using porcelain teaware, ranging from 150 for 1 min to 165 for 2 minutes, and I just don't get something that I'm happy with.
a classic, well made green tea. It s not too strong, and slightly creamy. I enjoy it on a chilly evening.
A very nice tea with low astringency and gentle taste. It has a nutty vegetable flavor that reminds me of sesame seeds and lima beans. Two minutes for brewing appears to be the right time as bitterness of most green teas is nonexistent. I do not get a grassy taste with this tea and I believe that it would pair well in tea on rice, Ochazuke.
This is a great green. Very vegetal so make sure you like green teas if you are going to try it. I've only made it iced (I cold brew it over night) and it's a very powerful and refreshing flavor- great way to start the day.
Amazing tea. Very herbal. Perfect tea for those traditional tea lovers.
Tastes kinda grassy, but in a good way- if that makes sense. I enjoyed it and will reorder it.
I like the taste, but it is not one of my favorites.
Really wonderful tea. I cold brew this and the flavor is really well balanced. One of my favorites.
I got a sample of this but i'm a really big fan. I'll have to get a bigger bag next time.
The quality of this tea is wonderful. It has that slightly grassy taste, with a hint of bitter. I enjoyed it hot, but found the bitterness too strong when cold. Won t purchase again, but enjoyed the sample! Good if you want a non sweet, bitter tea.
Smooth, crisp, grassy & seaweedy green tea. It's been my favorite daily tea for months.
