Kukicha Customer Reviews

A playful steamed green tea from Japan. Kukicha is a blend of leaves and leaf stems. The lightness of the stems becomes a sweet sesame seed or chestnut note. Tender like soft white rice. Balanced and, for a Japanese tea, very low in astringency.

★★★★☆

I love Japanese green tea. The amazing thing about this kukicha is how brothy it is. Very comforting tea. And since it's stems, it's lower in caffeine than other green teas.

The color of this brewed is very light, but it's not any indication of the strength of flavor! It reminds me a lot of the tea they serve at my local sushi thai place, which is great because that is one of my favorite greens. There is a little bit of grassiness, but it's really pleasant.

★★★★★

Light, green, and grassy. Very pleasant and easy drinking, with a minimum of tannins.

★★★★★

I loved this tea. It has very mild green tea flavor, seaweed, and fresh grasses, but adds in a soft brothy, fresh hay note. As a big fan of green and white teas, I found thoughts of each in this tea. It is a comforting cup for me.

★★★★☆

Pleasant green tea. Mild vegetative taste, not as strong as other kukicha teas I've tried.

★★★★★

One of my new favorite teas! Girlfriend said it reminded her of the tea should would drink in Japan. Very smooth comforting green tea

★★★★★

This has been my tea of choice for over five years and it hasn't slowed down my taste. Its basically a strong but 'gentle' green tea and I'd encourage it particularly for people just starting to drink green tea.

★★★★☆

Nice mellow lightly grassy, nutty flavor and buttery.

★★★★★

I was searching for a taste-a-like for a tea I tried in Montreal- and I found it in this kukicha! The flavor is almost savory, and somewhat yeast-like.

★★★★☆

This is a very smooth, warm, almost buttery green tea that's very easy to drink

★★★★☆

Pretty bland. Different. Don't think I will order it again

★★★★★

This is my summer go-to tea. Tastes great iced as well.

★★★★☆

A nicely-balanced kukicha with earthy notes and without tons of caffeine.

★★★★☆

The flavor of this tea using the recommended amount results in a weak taste. So I used 1-2 tablespoons and that strengthened it a bit. Overall the taste is mild and pleasant. I will order again.

★★★☆☆

Very strange yellow color. Tastes fine, but looks a little offputting.

★★★★☆

Slightly sweet vegetal tasting green tea that has little astringency. I enjoyed it but I like other greens better.

Warm and almost buttery, I will definitely order this again.

★★★★★

Love this tea! It's a gorgeous full-bodied green that packs tons of flavor into every sip.

★★★★★

Surprisingly nutty and refreshing flavor to an already calming favorite, with mysterious and gentle flavor spikes just beneath the surface. I usually don't like green tea - it's far too mild for me - but this tea is like a very fun, very satisfying puzzle, without any boredom. Highly recommended.

★★★★☆

It's a bit mild. I wish it was a little stronger. Might need to use two bags each time.

★★★★★

A very pretty green and almost cloudy colored tea with a very distinctive fragrance and an awesome flavor. The taste kind of reminds me of asparagus, but in a good way, I love the flavor! Plus, it's not bitter either. Win!

★★★★☆

This tea is a really good tea when I am having digestion problems. The taste is very grassy, but I like that and come to expect that of green teas. Not my favorite green, but it is up in my top 5 for sure.

★☆☆☆☆

Don't think I've ever rated a tea this low. It was horrible. It smelled like pineapple and ammonia. The taste was not better. I imagine this can be likened to the feeling Bear Grylls gets when he has to drink his own urine. But his urine probably tastes better.

★★★★★

Very grassy, it smells a lot like fresh mown grass, but the taste is great. Took time to get used to, but it is now one of my favorite afternoon teas

This is a very nice tasting tea, quite mellow and rounded, but I have a hard time getting past the color, which is very, very yellow. It's also, because of its texture, very hard to drain if you're doing multiple steepings of loose leaf. So it's a very nice tea with unexpected mechanical difficulties.

★★★★★

What a surprisingly delightful tea! It's sweat, with a clean flavor and smooth finish. It has a unique aroma, both delicate and soothing. A great tea to try!

★★★☆☆

Thin green twigs with not as much of the earthy twiggy taste as I get in other kukicha teas. This is really the only tea where I find Adigio falls a bit short.

★★★★☆

Nice and smooth and toasty. Great easy-drinking green tea.

★★★★☆

Couldn't get enough flavor out of this tea, i will try to mess with temp and quantity and update of it improves!!

★★★★★

Kukicha is a great spring or summertime green tea. It has the classic green tea taste but lighter and sweeter. Green teas tend to be either grassy or smoky and this one tends towards the grassy side, but it's a subtle flavor that seems to be there just to remind you that you're drinking a green tea. It's definitely one of my favorites.

★★★★★

Has a seaweedy taste to it, but surprisingly enjoyable.

★★★★★

Every time I drink it I'm surprised how delicious it is despite the fact that the stems are included in the tea. Apparently the stems add to the flavor. I think I'll re-order some right now.

This is a nice green tea. Nice color, stronger taste than some. It's very grassy, and it takes a little getting used to, but it has very nice flavor. I'm thinking using a little less tea might help with the grassy taste. I'll try that.

I was a little concerned because the dry leaves smells like hay. However, the flavor is very good with a subtle sweetness and a nice smooth finish.

This tea is mellow and has a delicious nutty/sesame flavor.

This is a very very mild green tea which means it would probably be a good one to use to introduce people who don't like astringency to greens. There is indeed an almost rice-like softness to it. It's overall not bad but not really what I've come to expect from green teas. I'll need another cup or two before I can really decide how I feel about it.

★★★★★

This green tea is amazing. Definitly one of my new favorites.

Good aroma, very earthy tasting. I found using less than recommended tasted better to me.

★★★★★

Great green tea flavor! Slightly earthy, but not bitter. Really good.

★★★★★

Grassy, vegetal and nutty. It has a matcha-like taste. Kind of like matcha flavored chocolates.

★★★★★

This was absolutely HEAVENLY. I was expecting it to be a nice green, not super remarkable, but pleasant to drink. I was surprised when I got a delicious, sweet, almost matcha-like taste (that reminds me a little of those chocolate matcha candies from Japan). I don't recommend using too much sweetener here (a tiny bit did the trick for me) if you use it at all. I don't generally buy large pouches of plain teas, but I might have to of this one.

There is something subtle and magical about this tea that I can't quite put my finger on.

★★★★★

Slightly nutty and smokey flavor. Mild in general. Very refreshing.

I love the sweetness of this interesting green tea. It's the stalk of the tea leaf! Sweet and fresh - yum!

I received this tea in the tea of the month club a few years ago and it was a hard one to forget. I kept comparing other green teas to my memory of it so I finally broke down and reordered it. I was not disappointed. It was exactly as I remembered it. So yummy and grassy!!

Really yummy, very similar to Korean Green Teas such as Chun Mee.

This tea was really tasty, I liked the delicate and slightly savory flavor. My third brewing of the leaves tasted metallic though and even though it's probably my fault I'll probably just stick to two from now on.

★★★★☆

My first time trying steamed kukicha. It's fair, but I definitely prefer the roasted variety.

★★★★★

This is a must have. Whenever I don't want to take the time to make the green chai tea, I make a cup of kukicha. This is a great second choice! I don't like to run out of this one.
