Kukicha Customer Reviews

A playful steamed green tea from Japan. Kukicha is a blend of leaves and leaf stems. The lightness of the stems becomes a sweet sesame seed or chestnut note. Tender like soft white rice. Balanced and, for a Japanese tea, very low in astringency.

★★★☆☆

kukicha nothing good or bad to say about it. we prefer some of the other teas

★★★★★

a great tea, but you have to be careful with it or it can taste either waaaaaaay too strong or like grass...or at least tastes like how fresh grass smells like. but definitely delicious when brewed correctly.

★★★★★

I LOVE Adagio's kukicha tea. ALKALIZING IS GREAT!!!

★★★★☆

It's a good, clean green tea. I would get it again!

★★★★★

This is an amazing green. Fresh, leafy, and good hot or cold. If you want a straight green, this is your brew!

★★★☆☆

I think this tea just wasn't to my liking. It is a bit savory and strong for my tastes.

★★★★★

This steamed tea is mellow and pleasant! It's easy to drink and great for the price.

★★★☆☆

not as great as far as I am concerned but everyone has their own taste and favorites so not sure if will reorder this one

★★★★★

I got kukicha on a whim, just because the idea of infusing the stems of the tea plant was amusing to me and I was curious. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that the tea tastes great! It's definitely on the grassy side, but has a subtly sweet note that reminds me, just a little, of matcha. I've already bought a 3-oz bag of this stuff.

★★★★☆

This is a lighter green tea, with a little bit of acidity and a silky mouthfeel.

A very delicate tea with taste that just hovers above full flavor. Resist the urge to steep it longer to get more flavor for it will just get bitter. This tea is for relaxing and clearing your thoughts.

★★★☆☆

Very heavy 'seaweed' flavor. Not one of our favorites.

★★★★★

Very light and delicate flavor. Very unique flavor with the stems. This is now my go to green tea.

★★★★☆

Wow! I read the reviews and prepared myself for a strong tea but I did not prepare myself enough. Extremely vegetal, this is not a good tea if you are a first time green tea drinker. I like the taste though. It's something different and makes for a nice change if the Jade Oolong isn't doing it for me.

★★★★☆

An all around good green tea. Nothing out of this world, just simple and delicious.

★★★★★

My most favorite green tea. It is similar to sencha, but it has a smoother flavor.

★★★★☆

I noticed a vegetal flavor which was fine for me. I liked that there's less caffeine due to the twiggy nature of the tea.

★★★★★

This is my new favorite green tea! Light and sweet. My children, who are relatively recent tea drinkers, request this tea. It is definitely worth a sip!

Wow. I took a chance on this - I like nutty Japanese teas but not grassy ones - so I had no idea what to expect. Turns out, I love it. It's not too light or mellow and still somehow manages to be interesting without being overwhelming. When I sip it I think: warm, buttery, almost like steamed rice. I wasn't planning on liking this but thought I should give it a try. So glad I did!

★★★★★

I didn't like this tea. That being said I rated it a five because it is definitely a high quality that delivers exactly as promised, I didn't like the grass. It brewed a very vibrant cup, it's flavors were wonderfully complex, it's a great taste of Japan. I have recently tried Adagio's Hojicha, it works much better for me, same exact taste but they've cooked all that grass flavor right outta it .-)

My husband and son like this tea on occasion. I don't care for it.

★★★★★

This must be a great tea. I unintentionally left the bag in the break area and it was taken in less than 3 minutes. I had 1 cup and for a green tee I was very surprised. It has a hint of nut and is easy on the palate.

★★★★☆

The most forward scent is that of new-mown grass, but the corresponding grassy flavor is more of a back note. The forward flavor is more of a soft rice. This tea puts me in mind of a warm summer day in the countryside. It's definitely vegetal without the harsher mineral overtones that can put some people off green tea.

★★★☆☆

This one is interesting. When brewed it has a distinctly grassy smell to it, and a bit of the taste. I think that perhaps I brewed it for too long, I will try less next time. While the grassy didn't taste bad, it was a bit surprising, and not my favorite. But I'm willing to give it another go.

★★★★★

This tea is very distinct in its flavor compared to other green teas. It is very woods-y and has a bit of an earthiness to it that is difficult to describe, yet delicious. I added some lemongrass to it for some extra flavor and it was perfect!

★★★★★

I've just begun to explore the many kinds of green tea,and this is one I really enjoy! It can be paired well with many of the fruit teas, if the taste of the kukicha tea straight isn't your style. Once dried, the leaves can be used again for another cup of tea!

★★★★☆

Good leafy green, grassy flavor. Very simular to Gyokuro.

★★★☆☆

This isn't a bad tea, but it's much too mild for me. It's as light and 'grassy' as everyone says, though.

★★★★☆

This tea is a strange one for me. When I first made it, it smelled very odd, nothing like a green tea. It smelled very vegetal. I did not think I would enjoy it but I was wrong! It was a very vegetal taste, a little nutty, and a little sweet. Not something I would want everyday but something I definitely enjoyed!

★★★☆☆

Definitely was not my favorite green. A little too bland and musty for my tastes.

Maybe I am just not used to this kind of tea, but I was not impressed. The flavor was not very pleasant, had a 'large' mouthfeel but tasted a little of what I would think hay tea would taste like.

★★★★☆

It took me a little bit to determine my love for this tea, now it is one of my favorites.

★★★★☆

Bright and grassy. While it's not one of my all-time favorites I still insist on keeping this one around.

I have had kikucha in Japan many times and this one is as excellent as the ones i have tried there.

★★★★☆

I got this as a change of pace from my usual green tea. It's definitely a keeper. Good value for the price.

★★★☆☆

The tea itself was decent but the aroma of the leaves and the tea were not something I enjoyed. It was very different from other green teas I have tried. But to get the most benefit from my tea I don't add anything except the tea itself, perhaps this would be better if you added honey to sweeten it. Probably won't be getting this again but this is because of my preference of flavors, and this not being one I enjoy.

★★☆☆☆

I didn't really enjoy this tea. It was like the seaweed flavor overwhelmed the tea for me. Very grassy and very vegetal.

★★★★★

I am digging this one as a tea to make multiple cups of when I am working or just hanging out. It's nice and mild and easy to drink. It's becoming my go-to green over genmaicha.

★★★☆☆

Very earthy... grassy. I over steeped the first cup, but really enjoyed it on my second try.

★★★★★

This is a terrific, inexpensive green tea. I like it more than some more expensive green teas. It tastes like slightly sweetened matcha to me. Definitely try this tea.

★★★★☆

I tried this tea and while it was good on its own, it does not stand against the other green teas on this site in my opinion. Attempted to mix with mints (favorite mixing herb) but I did not like that at all.

★★★★☆

A solid green tea with a subtle nuttiness from the twigs, not as intense as a genmai cha, but enough to offset the grassy tones nicely. This tea seems to have a lot of very fine particulate though, more so that other greens I've tried.

★★★★★

My go-to reasonably priced green tea. Don't let its looks fool you. Great taste!

★★★★☆

I bought this to see how it compares to more expensive green teas (gykuro comes to mind) with really leafy 'green' flavor and it didn't disappoint. A solid green tea with good flavor and aroma, at a very affordable cost. I'll be buying more!

This different from a lot of the teas that I usually drink, but I really enjoyed the grassy flavor!

★★★★☆

This tea confused me at the first sip. Not a conventional green tea, it has a distinct voice. I actually didn't like the first cup but decided to drink it several times more and found myself really enjoying it. Grassy, nutty with slightly smoky undertones, it has hearty flavor and doesn't need a fruity pairing. If you enjoy green tea but are looking for one that can stand alone, try a sample of kukicha and give it several tries to really understand its complex flavors.

I love this green tea. Grassy, earthy- great in the morning or afternoon.

★★★☆☆

As other reviewers stated, if you do not like grassy tea, then this is not the tea for you - and that sums it up well for me. I have read and tried others that were reviewed similarly and didn't have such results. This was very grassy for me and I didn't pick up any of the chestnut or white sesame. If I had, I would have enjoyed this much more.

Japanese teas are grassy, yet fresh and flavorful. I especially appreciate Kukicha for its low level of caffeine, which makes it perfect to start the day smoothly. This tea is of great quality in this store and I do recommend it. Enjoy!

★★★★☆

As a person new to green teas, I found this delightful and not overly grassy.
