Has a very grassy flavor which I like if you are not sure about grasslike flavor you will probably not like it.
A playful steamed green tea from Japan. Kukicha is a blend of leaves and leaf stems. The lightness of the stems becomes a sweet sesame seed or chestnut note. Tender like soft white rice. Balanced and, for a Japanese tea, very low in astringency.

Has a very grassy flavor which I like if you are not sure about grasslike flavor you will probably not like it.
This is my favorite green tea. It has a really nice toasted sesame flavor, and does not have the fishy note that many green teas have. It's very grassy, which I find pleasant, and smells amazing. Great for waking up in the morning! Gives me a huge caffeine buzz.
I love this blend. It is still has the grassiness that is a characteristic I like in the senchas, with Japanese being my strong preference. The kukicha is a more mellow blend, and contributes a spark of interest to the day.
Loved the nutty notes in this tea. It's very light, though.
Wonderful delicate flavor that is not too bitter if steeped extra concentrated. I pour boiling water into an infuser of tea and remove the leaves immediately for the first steep, then successively longer steepings. I get about 4 steepings, where the last one I let steep for 1-2 minutes and the flavor is dull.
Very nice green tea flavor with a hint of nuttiness. This tea is a nice afternoon pick me up.
I like the light, sweet, hay-like taste of this tea. My only complaint is that there is quite a bit of dust in it, far more than any other green tea that I've had (senchas and gunpowders, mostly). It's also only good for one steep, and I like my teas to hold up to several steeps throughout the day.
Surprisingly tasty and refreshing green tea, will buy again.
I gave it a shot but it turns out I don't like green tea! Nothing against this tea; it just doesn't suit my palate I guess. Kukicha has a very strong, almost sweet, grassy flavour that comes through even in very quick steeps.
If you like matcha but want something closer to a traditional leafy green tea, this is perfect.
This is one of my staple teas to go to after a long day at work. Its a bit more vegetal and grassy tasting than other green teas, but that's what I like about it so much. With how cold and long our winters are, any sort of reminder of spring is deeply appreciated!
Sooooo delicious! Refreshing. I've prepared it hot, and also overy ice! So good!
Very refreshing and light in taste. It's good for those 'tender tummy' days.
This was not what I was expecting, but in a good way! Grassy, green flavor. Very refreshing!
I had been looking for a solid, less-expensive, daily alternative to my favorite Japanese green (gyokuro), when I ran into kukicha. I had never heard of it before coming into the Skokie, IL store a month ago, but I'm so glad I found it! It's fresh, mild and grassy, and it's cost-effective. I've found my new daily green tea.
This is a good Japanese tea for the price. Don't oversteep it though.
A solid tea. I wish it were a bit stronger in its taste, but as marketed, for a Japanese green it is quite low in astringency. It also steeps for a while without becoming bitter.
So light and refreshing, but still a great depth of flavor.
This tea is very mild and lovely and is a nice occasional treat that I enjoy.
I love the nutty flavors of the kukicha. It barely needs any time to brew, and is a lovely mild flavor after just about 30 seconds.
I have been looking for this type of green tea since I first purchsed it at another tea purveyor who doesn't carry it any longer. So glad I found adagio teas!
I use this to make my own green tea lattes.
We tasted this as a sampler in Japanese teas collection and immediately ordered the bigger size. Its one of our favorites right now. It tastes amazing. This tea has a really deep voice and it brings calmness. Its one of those grassy green taste teas so if you are used to regular shop green tea it might not suit you. Be careful to not steep it for too long. Ideally it should t me bore then 3 min.
I love the smell of this tea in tin. Brewed it tastes slightly grassy with a hint of sweet rice. I find it tastes better with a shorter brewing time than what Adagio recommends.
This green tea is super earthy and grassy, perfect for those who pu erhs.
Grassy, but in the lightest way. A very solid green tea.
Subtle, grassy flavor. I brewed it in a glass tea pot, and the color was rather nice. In some ways, it's similar to matcha (almost like matcha-lite).
Very light. A great tea for the summer, even when warm surprisingly.
Too grassy for me. I don't doubt that it's great quality though.
If you do not like grassy teas do not drink this. My mother smelled and tried it and both times said it either smelled or tasted like hay. I do like the taste of the tea as I do like grassy tea and in general the flavor is good.
Love this when I'm in the mood for something light and smooth. And you can't beat the price!
The description is spot on with 'warm, rounded, and playful.' Kukicha is a much lighter, less astringent green tea than I'm used to, but it's surely becoming a repeat purchase. The flavor is very well balanced and multiple steepings yield satisfying results well into 3 brews. This is a must for any green tea connoisseur.
A pleasant change from standard green tea. Faintly earthy in an invigorating way.
Definitely not a tea for me. Too earthy, too much aftertaste - but just my opinion.
The perfect green tea. It has a ton of rich earthy flavor with being overly robust, tart or acidic. Great for early morning sunrise or an evening curled up with a good book.
This tea has an almost savory seaweed flavor. It wasn't very enjoyable as a morning tea, but we used it while making vegetable stock for another depth of flavor and it was great.
This is a great tea. We admit to loving quite a few Adagio teas, of course. This one is always very good and always enjoyable.
Definitely a light green tea. If I wanted a tea to drink on a regular basis I'd pick something more robust, although to be fair I was raised on oolong so I'm probably biased.
One of our favorite green teas, especially for times when you don't want a lot of astringency. It re-brews well too, even 3 times if you reduce the amount of water for re-brewing. It brews a thicker tea than other Japanese greens.
Delicious, buttery, and smooth, with a hint of an artichoke-like flavor. I use more of the twigs than recommended (about double), and half the time, and can get up to 3 good cups from it. Some days I'll do a 4th, but it's pretty thin at that point.
This is an easy tea for me because I can drink it before bed and not be kept awake and it is mild though very enjoyable. Also love how you can reuse the leaves for a 2nd cup. I find the taste can change the 2nd time and sometimes I actually like it better.
Teatime! My favorite Saturday afternoon brew on hot days.
Lovely aroma, subtle taste, only lasts for one brew not three as it was suggested by my Chinese alternative medicine provider (green tea is supposed to provide different benefits in each of the brews)
This tea reminds me of gyokuro, which wasn't particularly my taste. It is very grassy and is reminescent of a kind of matcha I tried in the past.
One of my favorite. Well balanced and slightly different from all other greens.
A different green tea with a woody twist on an astringent sencha taste.
An old favorite that I'm very glad I found again. If you haven't tried this flavorful green, I highly recommend it.
This is a nice tea if you like the taste of sencha, but don't like the price or quite the 'bite' of sencha. It has a lighter taste from the tea stems, but I think it's a great tea overall. Slightly bitter, fresh grass, very clean. I've bought several times and would recommend!
This tea almost reminds me of the Genmaicha green tea. It is very light, slightly nutty with great green tones. It isn't too vegetal either. I love it! -Erik
Nice thick texture and a comforting round flavor. I get a lot more out of this tea by giving it a brief bath in cool water before steeping at 200 degrees.
Once you get past the initial, i guess you could call it twiggy, taste it's actually quite refreshing. Occasionally it has a bit more of a grassy undertone. Always made a good after dinner little pick me up if I needed one.
