You'll find the street snack, kestane, its texture is similar to baked potatoes albeit with a delicate nutty flavor, in Istanbul. The holidays in Philadelphia, Boston, and Manhattan mean vendors selling just-roasted chestnuts in small bags that warm the hands against the wintry night and satisfy the palate. And the nuts are still ground into a wholesome flour for bread.
