5 Teas for Father's Day

May 31, 2018
Is your Dad a tea guy? Your husband, or son with kids of his own? This father's day, let them know how much you mean to them by hand-selecting a tea to suit their taste and personality!

And if they're new to tea, what better time to get them into the world of fresh, artisan teas, than gifting them some teas to enjoy together. After all, the best gift is time spent together, so consider ditching the new tie, and introduce your Dad to new teas! Bonus points if you use a tie-box for the ol' bait-and-switch!

Teas can easily match your father's tastes and passions. While you might be tempted to try staple teas like English Breakfast or Ceylon, let's see if we can customize the experience a little more.

1. Lapsang Souchong

This Chinese black tea is famous for its smoky aroma and flavor. How you ask? The tea leaves are partially dried over smoking pine fire, imparting a sweet, clean smoky flavor to the tea. If Dad likes his smoked meats, bacon, and BBQ, this can be a perfect match. You can use it to make a great marinade for meats. The tea can be made with milk and sugar - and it's an awesome tea to use in Whisky-based tea cocktails! Lapsang Souchong is about as manly as a tea can be! Perfect for foodie, grilling, campfire-chilling, Dads.

2. Gunpowder

This Chinese green tea is processed and rolled into tiny pellets. It makes for a nice intro into green tea, especially if Dad's not a fan of the grassy flavor green teas can sometimes have. This is a great tea to make a pitcher of green tea lemonade with, and goes great with summer cook-out dinners. Dad a gin martini guy? Add a couple spoonfuls of the brewed tea for a twist on the classic cocktail. This tea packs healthy caffeine for a boost of energy. Perfect for classy, whitty, creative Dads.

3. Yunnan Noir

Black tea from the Yunnan province of China is a hand-rolled tea, which has a sweet aroma, with hints of honey and spice. A slight savoryness along with hints of dark fruits make this a complex and awesome tea. This is a great tea for red wine lovers, as it's often described as having a "winey" feel. Smooth is the word picked most often to describe it, so if Dad is a smooth operator who enjoys the finer things, impress him with some Yunnan Noir. Perfect for refined, book-loving, dining-out, dapper Dads.

4. Milk Oolong

Does Dad love beer? Milk Oolong is a Taiwanese tea prized for its inherent cream and butter notes. Milk Oolongs have lightly roasted, rolled leaves, and brew up a light-bodied cup with a sweet buttery texture and slightly floral aroma. Perfectly complementing the hopp-iness of beer! We're even starting to see some brewers incorporate teas into beer. This tea is a great way to gear up for a day spent working in the yard or wind down in the early afternoon once the work's done! Perfect for hardworking, outdoorsy, beer-on-tap-y, casual Dads.

5. Honeybush

Is Dad caffeine-free? Honeybush tea is a naturally caffeine-free alternative to black or green teas. The plant is similar to the Rooibos plant and hails from South Africa's Eastern Cape region. This is a multi-purpose tea with a clean, refreshing, almost woody flavor, and a bit of natural sweetness. Adding some to a vodka-tonic makes for a refreshing twist, or perfect iced tea, for Dads who need to watch their sugar intake. Honeybush teas make a great cup to relax with at the end of the day. Perfect for relaxed, game-playing, porch-sitting, fun Dads.

Once you've selected the tea that is just right for your Dad, don't forget something to make it in! Whether a simple cup with infuser or a more ceremonial teapot, the act of making the tea is just as important as the taste.

Gadget loving Dads might enjoy the IngenuiTEA or UtiliTEA Kettle.

So after the gift is given, take some time to enjoy together. To all the Dads out there, Happy Father's Day from all of us at Adagio.
