I am still playing around with this one (im a newbie with loose tea and getting temps and steeping times right). I was hoping for something that packs the flavor punch and rich, velvety feel of the Throat coat in the tea bags sold at the grocer without that musty aftertaste that grocer tea tends to have. Think there is a berry in there that tings the flavor up a bit if that makes sense. If I knew what was missing (more licorice root or slippery elm, or maybe clove) I would order it separate and add it myself. It does feel nice on the throat and pairs well with a bit of honey.

Got this when I was sick, and it really did help with my throat. Very soothing and made it much less scratchy and uncomfortable.

With a little bit of honey, this really helped my throat. @adagioteas

I tried it with honey. I recommend NOT following in my footsteps.
UPDATE: I now use this tea every time I have a sore throat. I recommend it.

Great with a little honey. I got covid a while ago and it really helped my throat feel better.

Ironically this tea arrived here the same day that I got a sore throat. I wasn't sure how I was going to like this, but the licorice was actually very pleasant. It does have a silky mouthfeel as well. Unfortunately, this only helped my sore throat a little. Still a tasty and unique tea to try though.

I've used this tea while having a sore throat, and it does coat the throat nicely as a remedy, although the licorice root is sweet enough that I don't want to add honey to help a ravaged throat, but I tend to not sweeten my tea. It helps to coat my throat in a pleasant way, although I find that the licorice root is pretty dominate resulting in a sweeter tea. The reddish color was also surprising, but I drank this for my throat, rather than my eyes and taste buds. Brewed at 212 for 5 minutes.

I was actually surprised that this works. My mother has COPD and she has a terrible cough. I make this for her and BAM...stuff works.

I am very much not a fan of licorice, and this blend contains anise as well, which also has a licorice flavor. All combined, it was just too much licorice flavor for me, and it overpowered the other flavors. It might have good benefits if you have a sore throat, but I'll stick to green tea with honey and lemon, which has always worked well for me. If you like licorice, you might enjoy this blend more than I did.

This is delicious. Light licorice taste with a bit of a fruity hint to cut through any heaviness. And feels absolutely great on the throat. Love it!

I will start off by saying that I really dislike licorice, a lot. This tea blend on the other hand, is really good. I’m not sure why I hadn’t reviewed it before, I’ve had it before in CT and bought a bag. I’m a little heavy handed with the tea to water ratio, I like 2tsps as opposed to 1tsp. and it is naturally sweet so I don’t add anything. On a scratchy sore throat it’s very soothing. 200° for 5 min.

Not an everyday drinking tea. That said, I know these ingredients are legitimately good for a sore throat and I might consider a sample size to have on hand as medicine, but not for choice enjoyment!

Interesting flavors. I used 12oz of water to dilute it just a bit since I am not a fan of licorice. This worked well. Slightly sweet tea that coats your mouth and throat well. Comforting tingle on the throat and tongue after each sip. This will be nice when my allergies are irritating my throat. Looks like it may be used for digestive issues also. It will cure what ails you!

I wish I could explain why I like this so much. It has licorice as the 1st ingredient! I don't like licorice! But the tea is so sweet on its own, and the entire cup reminds me more of those thin crispy Italian cookies than gross black licorice ropes. What started as a 'I'm not gonna like this but I'll try it anyway' has turned into a buy on my next purchase. If you're worried about the licorice, try a sample. You might be pleasantly surprised!

For some, the ingredients in this tea are enjoyable. Others, such as myself, are not as joyous about the taste but can appreciate the tea for its ability to help soothe a scratchy throat. I am still not sure if this would be my go to tea for throat therapy and would like to try against a nice lemon honey tea next time my throat ails me to confirm the cure is worth the taste.

I enjoy earthy tasting teas. The sweet licorice tastes very nice along with the anise, I'm surprised I never thought to combine those two flavors before. I drank this without any additions and could see added honey or sugar making this taste medicinal as noted by other reviewers. The liquor brews up thick and has a definite slick feeling when drinking it, I look forward to enjoying this on cold winter nights when the air is all dried out from the heating running constantly.

This tea is very sweet! Maybe a little too sweet, which is crazy coming from someone with a huge sweet tooth like myself. I am not a fan of hibiscus so here’s another odd thing for me to say: I kind of wish there was more of it in this tea. I think some tartness could balance out the borderline cloying sweetness. Maybe a wedge of fresh lemon would benefit it. That being said, though, it’s not an unpleasant tea. It’s predominantly licorice flavored. There’s a soft cinnamon scent that adds a gentle, warm earthiness. Thanks to the slippery elm it coats the mouth in a pleasant way. While I’m not the biggest fan of the taste, it really does soothe my throat and has become a staple in my collection that I reach for at the first sign of sickness. It definitely doesn’t need sweetener, but I add manuka honey to boost the healing benefits. The honey definitely brings out more of the licorice flavor, so I only recommend it if you’re a fan of that. If you’re not, I might say steer clear of this tea entirely. But if you can stomach it, I highly recommend this tea for sore throats.

Really like this tea for sore throats and other esophageal issues. Love the licorice root and even though I'm not normally a fan of either Hibiscus or Raspberry Leaves, I do like this in this blend. This is one of my top 5 medicinal teas and drink it quite often, even when I don't have a sore throat.

I know this tea is a wellness tea, so I shouldn't expect a spectacular taste. However, even if I was sick or had a sore throat, I would not be able to drink this. In the beg, smells very herbal, but that was expected. Smells kind of pleasant. But once brewed, it's very sweet. I do not like my tea sweet. There's a woody taste under it all, kind of herbal. i wish this was the stronger taste, not the sweetness. i did not personally enjoy this at all, I sadly didn't even finish my cup.

I steeped this tea for 5 minutes at 212F. It had a very natural type of flavor. I added honey before tasting which might have been a mistake because I didn't really taste the anise or licorice, which are flavors actually like. I'll have to try this sometime without the honey to see those flavors are more present.

This is definitely a tea I’d categorize into the ‘medicinal’ category, even if I knew nothing of it but the taste. Three strong, sharp flavors - cinnamon, a nice, & licorice - all do their best to stand out. Not a tea I’d reach for for the flavor alone, but I can see how it might be beneficial for what it was intended for.

I hesitate to call a tea bad, but this one was an absolute NO! from the very first sip. I did make myself take several sips so I could adequately describe it and be honest, but there is no way I could drink a cup of this. I think the licorice gives the tea a very sickly sweetness, one I actually associate with stevia, that cloying, overly sweet taste that lingers on the palate and refuses to wash away... Even if I did have a sore throat, there is no way this would be something I would reach for, I'll stick with honey and lemon...

Today's CommuniTea packet is throat therapy, part of Adagio's wellness collection. It's made of licorice, raspberry leaves, hibiscus, orange, cinnamon, aniseed and slippery elm. I like licorice, raspberry, orange, cinnamon and anise, so I went ahead and made a full pot. Never underestimate the ability of one unknown ingredient to take over a cup. :-) Slippery elm is apparently very sweet, and sweetness is the primary thing I noticed. Yes, you can taste licorice, but extremely sweet licorice. According to others in the communiTea, this tea is great when you have a cold or sore throat. I'll have to try it again then. Eight grams of tea in 32 ounces of 200 degree water.

I loved this tea. Then again licorice is one of my favourite flavours. If you don't like licorice you will not like this tea. The licorice blends nicely with the other flavours for a sweet flavour and no sugar or sweetener needed.

I was going to save this for when I needed it. But I decided to give it a go. I do not like licorice at all. This tea was very sweet but drinkable. Not a fan but might try it again when I was sick.

This is a very nice herbal blend with super powers! It's tasty and well-balanced with sweet, smooth, spicy and tart flavors. One to keep handy in the medicine cabinet, but also to enjoy occasionally just for a relaxing herbal cup.

I will update my review when I use this tea, I am not a fan of licorice at all, and would rather wait for a scratchy throat to drink this and give it a full review, then sip it and tell everyone how much I loathe the taste of licorice.

Quite enjoyed the soothing sensation of this tea doing what it's meant to do...the flavor is potent, though. I dig it.
My throat is so much happier after drinking this (our weather forecast just says 'smoke' and has on/off for weeks). The difference was upon first sip, and the spicy steam may have helped ease my sinuses as well. Just be prepared for that strong flavor if you are sensitive to licorice or aniseed. However, honey and lemon should aide in rounding out those flavors.

Sweet licorice and herbal scents floated out of today's CommuniTEA packet. A 5 minute steep at 212°F produced a translucent tisane with an orange and almost purple hue.
The sweet scents of licorice, aniseed were prevalent in the steaming cup, alongside an herbal component. Flavor profile for this one is very similar to other types of licorice & slippery elm herbal tea blends (I won't name the brands here, but you'll know when you see them!) This blend has mild levels of sweet licorice and aniseed flavor when compared to it's neighbors (at least at my water to dry herbs ratio). There is a nice smooth vegetal flavor from the raspberry leaf, which seems to add a fresh and bright aspect to this blend. The slippery elm gives just enough smooth mucilage to help coat a sore throat.
I actually had a bit of an irritated throat from spraying a bit too much neem oil on our plants earlier. We're fighting back fungus gnats, the most dastardly and pernicious of replicators! 🪰 So, I was able to test out the soothing quality of this tisane.
It definitely had a positive effect on soothing the irritation a bit. Adding honey sweetened the flavor and the throat soothing qualities. It was a good thing that the licorice wasn't too overly sweet on it's own, otherwise it might have been too cloying. Overall, this is a nice and more mild variety of the popular throat soothing slippery elm and licorice blends.

this one was timely in my communi-tea box. my allergies have been causing my throat to feel scratchy. this tea helped a LOT. i'm not a fan of licorice root, but since i put this in the 'medicinal' category rather than 'recreational', that's not, necessarily, a bad thing. it does what i need it to do.

The timing of this CommuniTEA is almost perfect as I am getting over a cold. I place this one in the camp of 'I am not a fan of the taste but it works.' It IS very good at soothing the throat and tastes like raspberry leaf sweetened licorice and anise with hints of other sweet spices.

It was definitely interesting to watch this one steep. By the end, It kinda had a slight pink tint to it. As for the taste, I thought it was pretty good, though the sweetness seemed to go down a bit the more I drank. It's a shame I don't have another packet for when I actually do have a sore throat.

Eww, no me gusta. Again, it's not you, it's me...I'm sure it does what it's supposed to do, but I despise the tastes of licorice and anise, and I don't like hibiscus either. So...this one was 2 sips and a dump!

Well, I breathe easier drinking it. I'm happy orange and cinnamon are in it as I don't like licorice. The taste is not as bad as I thought it would be, but I won't drink it for enjoyment. Had I drank this before, my Communitea packet would have be stored with the rest of my other tea packets I've already reviewed.

The flavor of this tea reminds me of Thayer’s Slippery Elm throat lozenges. I grew up with those in our medicine cabinet to soothe an irritated throat. They worked well. No danger in having too many because after one or two, the flavor was overwhelming and too sweet to eat more, even for sweet tooths like me. The flavors in this blend have the same licorice, aniseed and slippery elm taste as those lozenges. They are helpful for a sore throat but are not joyful together for a delightful sip. The flavor is too distinct and sweet. The other ingredients stayed mostly behind the scenes. Funny enough, a rooibos honey add was helpful with its dark earthy flavor in toning down some of the sweetness and dominant licorice flavor.
My CT packet had 3 g/ 2 tsp of chunky herbal pieces and brewed into a golden peachy colored liquor with a slight cloudiness. I brewed 14 oz. at 212*F for 5 min. and made one cup. I can appreciate this tea for its helpfulness with throat issues. It deserves 5 stars for that but as a pleasure sip it gets 3 stars and splitting the difference, it rates 4. For licorice/aniseed lovers this tea will make you happy. Whether sipped as a tasty tea or a throat soother, it does its job well.

Not bad, I was expecting this to taste horrible. I don’t like licorice, and it usually dominates these medicinal teas, but up it was quite mild here. Wouldn’t seek it out, but I’d actually drink this one if I needed some throat therapy.

I really enjoyed this intriguing brew. I love these “hippie teas” as I call them and all the good stuff in them. I’ve had allergies recently, so the timing was right to try this tea. I did feel it helped the scratchiness I’ve been experiencing. I enjoyed the flavor too! All the elements came together to create a warm, inviting cup. The licorice and cinnamon were the primary notes and created a hearty sip. Even if you don’t have throat issues, I still think this is worth imbibing. Happy Sipping!
