Vergil's Georgics have a lot to say about plants. Imagine their author blending an herbal tea out of arbuta (the strawberry tree), mala (apples), and cerasi (wild cherries) with just a hint of melisphyllum (lemon balm). He'd probably add a touch of honey from his favorite beehives, too.

The American Classical League includes teachers of Latin, Greek, and Classics on elementary, secondary, and college levels. The League is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019. We are working together to help each other.

(Eclogue IX.50) ~ Shy and sickly Vergil could have benefited from some herbal teas made from the various fruits mentioned in his Georgics and Eclogues. Of those listed, strawberries, cherries, and apples were the most readily available for tea-blending, with a touch of lemon balm.
