Red, bright, and juicy, the Firebird calls to mind the scene in Koschei's garden where Ivan Tsarevich chases the Firebird around the tree of golden apples in order to get a feather from her tail. Pomegranate and apple conjure the garden and the tree, with hibiscus the bright costume of the ballerina as she flutters en pointe across the stage.
