Assam is malty and pleasant, and pu-erh is distinctly peaty, which combine to approximate the taste of whiskey. The gunpowder adds a smoky undertone, and also is a metaphor for his careful planning, and the spice in the pu-erh represents his acerbic attitude. Plus the ginger is good for hangovers.
