This tea has a heavy note of pomegranate followed by a touch of passion fruit and rounded off with a mild hint of chocolate and spice.
The pomegranate was Queen Katherine's royal symbol. It symbolizes outer strength, royalty (it's sometimes called the 'crown fruit', and inner beauty. The fruit also carries a blessing of fertility and abundance that was meant to grant her many children. Unfortunately for her however, she bore the king only one surviving child (a daughter named Mary). It's only fitting that the flavor of pomegranates be the star of this blend.
Passion fruit blossoms are known for their beauty, and once reminded Spanish missionaries of the passion of Christ himself. Being that Katherine was a devout and loyal catholic, I thought this was an appropriate tea to add to this blend. The flavor of the passion fruit also symbolizes her passion as a queen (not sexual passion) in the sense that she applied herself to every task with unending devotion. She enjoyed being an active and caring queen, not only to the King but to her people as well (especially the homeless and poor). And she unconditionally and tirelessly loved Henry throughout all his transgressions, til the very day she died.
This tea blend is rounded off with a tiny bit of chocolate chai. Chocolate was discovered when Spanish explorer's reached the new world, and was brought back to be cultivated in Spain. Chocolate has also long been associated with royalty because of it's rich and decadent flavor. Add in a touch of spice, and you've got a perfect representation of the people's most beloved Queen.
When studying Henry VIII, one must inevitably wind up on the topic of his six wives. Out of all his romantic endeavors, Katherine was the longest of his marriages. In many people's minds, she was the only true queen of England. She was an elegant woman, with an amazing heart, and regardless of how people feel about her marriage to the king (and whether or not it was truly valid), her legacy of compassion and virtue remains.
'In this world I will confess myself to be the king's true wife, and in the next they will know how unreasonably I am afflicted.' - Katharine of Aragon
