This tea is a delightful (and caffeine free!) tribute to Henry VIII's rule of England. This tea is tart, yet sweet, and as bi-polar as Henry's attitude.
According to most historical accounts 'Henry had orchards of pears, apples, plums, damsons, cherries and strawberries. But cherries and strawberries were his favorite fruits.' Honey was also a popular sweetener in Henry's Court.
This tea gets it's main flavor from the strawberry and cherry herbals teas. Both of these teas also have underlying notes of apples (which were grown in his orchards) and rosehips (roses were the Tudor family symbol). It finishes out with a mellow and consistent sweetness from the honeybush tea.
I've been obsessed with the legacy of the Tudors since my Shakespeare class in college (which included a lengthy section on the War of the Roses, which was the inspiration for the play Richard III). Since then, I've gobbled up every bit of information I could on the Tudor line, from watching the show on TV, to reading all sorts of books, and researching through tons of data online. I imagined this tea to be a great companion to watching the TV series (as I like to cuddle up with a good blanket and something warm to drink when it comes on). I figured it was about time to translate the life of this man into drinkable form!
