Honeybush Customer Reviews

Honeybush is a sibling of Rooibos, cultivated in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. Its flowers smell of honey, earning this plant a sweet name. Our honeybush is sweet, gently roasted and fuller-bodied than rooibos. Clean and refreshing.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I had never tried unflavored honeybush before, and I think it's actually pretty great! It kind of reminds me of the smell of horse feed, in a very pleasant way. I took it brewed strong with a squeeze of honey.

★★★★★

Very mild and a little but earthy. I love this one to blend with other flavors.

Luckily this reminded me more of green rooibos (which I like) than red (which I often dislike)...  Woody, piney notes in the aroma and flavor, with a slight sweetness and slight sour tang.  A large drop of honey smoothed it out and brought out a pleasant toasty nuttiness.  Very smooth and soft, with the promised refreshing finish.  I think I prefer this tea flavored and in blends over plain.  Great to have the chance to try plain honeybush for today's CommuniTEA selection!

Nothing too special, just a pretty simple, sweet, and earthy cup of tea. Much better in blends.

Honeybush is very simliar to red rooibos, but better. It's sweeter and has slightly more depth. That being said, it's really not a favorite of mine. I feel very 'meh' about red rooibos and that extends to honeybush. (5 min @ 212°F)

Simple, unflavored honeybush tea that I got a chance to try as part of my November CommuniTEA box. It has very light flavor and pleasant herbal smell.

This is a decent enough honeybush- however, adagio has other honeybush teas that I absolutely love so I would never order this since it is somewhat plain. I find it pleasant enough on its own, a hint of sweetness, a bit of woodiness, I added a splash of maple to give it an extra flavor note. Enjoyable enough to drink, but doesn't thrill me either.

This tea was...ok. Bland. Kind of meh? I wouldn’t buy it but I might blend it with stuff.

★★★★☆

A subtle sweet and earthy flavor. I'm glad to have had the chance to try it on it's own as I've only ever had it in blends. It's subtle flavor lends itself well to blends, but is also quite comforting on its it's own.

Sweet, warm and earthy. Tastes really nice plain with no additional sweeteners.

I've never hadHoneybush on its own before; it was good and i definately see why it is a good tea to use with blends and naturally caffeine-free. I could picture buying this if i was to do more blending at home. I sampled this Tea as part of the CommuniTEA November box

This is a nice, plain tea. The honeybush is sweet, and not astringent or bitter like other teas. It has a nice earthy woodsy taste. Good hot or iced!

Very much tastes like a sweet tart candy. I did not enjoy it.

Got this as a CommuniTEA selection. I didn't hate it a much as I hate red rooibos. It is sweeter, more raisiny, less medicinal.

This is slightly sweet like honey on initial tasting. Then it morphs to the insanely bitter I have come to recognize from honeybush. if you don't get bitter from honeybush, this would be a refreshing tea. If you do, then stay away.

I'm honestly not sure I've ever had pain honeybush. It's lovely. Almost creamy, rich mouthfeel. Woods, honey. A tiny bit sweet. Warm and comforting.

A sweet, honey-gentle cozy warm cup of joy that I could look forward to every night! Yum!

Similar to rooibos, but a smoother, lighter taste.

Great decaf tea. Light flavor but pleasant, and the flavored versions of this are phenomenal. Honeybush lacks the odd sweetness of rooibos and I definitely prefer this over rooibos.

★★★★★

I love any flavors of honeybush and that includes just honeybush. It is a wonderful nutty tea and not bitter if steeped just long enough.

I much prefer honeybush over rooibos. It doesn't have the medicinal flavor like rooibos does. Honeybush is okay on it's own, but I still like it blended with other stuff more.

Every time I try a honeybush tea that has an added flavor, I'm delighted by the way that they honeybush doesn't overwhelm its accouterments, but on it's own the sweet and woody flavor aptly tastes like a gourmet tree bark without the pleasant tang of my preferred bark, cinnamon. I appreciate the versatility of an ingredient like honeybush, and for it's lack of caffeine, but on it's own the flavor is just a bit too medicinal for me.

I'm not a fan of rooibos, so I was glad to be able to try honeybush on its own. The honeybush is less citrusy than rooibos, with a softer, sweeter flavor. I like it better, but still not something I'd drink regularly.

It’s a good tea. Light and mellow but I love it when it’s combined with another tea.

The dry honeybush smells like a lovely pine tree forest with hints of honeysuckle. The floral notes are strongest when I first smell the packet, but slowly the woodsy scent takes over and puts the sweetness in the background. Freshly brewed, it retains this forest floor scent; longer brews bring out sweeter notes.
I was surprised at how dark this tea was so early into brewing @ 212, so I actually tried it at 4, 5, and 6 minutes despite the solid 'just 5' recommendation.
At 4 this tea is very light, definitely tastes like sweet forest floor with some notes of melon in the background. At 5 it's much fuller, tastes more like earth than pine, and not as sweet. And at 6, it took on a soft 'mushroomy' quality that balanced the pine and earth flavors quite well along with pulling out some of that melon aftertaste juuust a bit. Incidentally, I prefer either shorter or longer than the recommended brewing time. For sure an interesting tea; perfect for blending.

This is a very mild tea. The smell is sweet, and the taste is lightly sweet and vaguely like honey. I can see why honeybush is great for blending, but I probably wouldn't buy this to drink on its own.

I normally like honeybush teas but this tasted like watered-down cough syrup. No thanks...

★★★★☆

I was leery about this tea. I've had the honeybush hazelnut and did not care for it, it was almost sickly sweet, but this tea is much milder. It does have a bit of a medicinal taste, but it is enjoyable.

★★★★☆

I was excited that this came up in the CommuniTEA packet today. I've loved the blends that include Honeybush (blueberry pancake and honeybush apricot being my favs), but have never tried it alone. It has a smooth, sweet and woodsy taste. I would happily drink it again, but think that I will probably just stick to the blends that contain it instead of drinking it plain. As a side note, I hate its cousin, rooibos tea, and any blend that contains it... so, to those in the same boat, do not be afraid to try honeybush as it might surprise you. A nice herbal tea. Good on it own or with a little sweetening. Like the flavor. Love the color!

★★★★☆

Glad to have tried this as part of the Communitea sample as I have never had honeybush tea on its own. While it was good and see why it is a good tea to use with blends, it is not something that I would purchase to drink on its own. It is sweet with a bit of a honey-vanilla-hay vibe going on for taste.

I really enjoy honeybush tea! I have several honeybush based blends in my tea cabinet but this is the first time I’ve tried it plain. It’s actually decent plain with a touch of sweetener. Unflavored/plain honeybush is not something I’d buy but it was worth having. I should add I like it way better than its cousin rooibos and would recommend honeybush to anyone who isn’t a rooibos fan.

I have come to love honeybush tea. Every time I see a communiTea sample has honeybush in it, I get excited. It is smooth and sweet nd a beautiful honey smell hits my nose, when I drink it. Delicious!

Reviewed as part of the communiTEA. I never had honeybush on its own. I quite like it! A tea flavored tea I’m a fan of!

I like honeybush, it’s got a sweet mellow taste, good on it’s own. And caffeine free is nice.

Lovely herbal scent and taste with a sweet honey-like flavor. I have had this tea before in blends with all sorts of flavors added, but discovered it's also nice by itself! Very enjoyable cup of tea!

This tea is so versatile; when mixed, it accentuates the sweetness of other ingredients, but alone makes for a cozy cup indeed. It's not super similar in taste to rooibos (according to my rooibos-disliking palate, at least).

Comforting, soft, and smooth with a touch of something that I'm still trying to put my finger on. As others have said, much more subtle than rooibos. I am partial to the honeybush blueberry pancake over the plain, though!

I love this tea. The flavor is smooth and relaxing. It s wonderful on it s own or sweetened just a little if you have an ultra sweet tooth like I do. I like to mix this with other teas from time to time just to see how the flavors play together.

This is a great tea if you like your tea with a little sweetness. I don t have to add as much sweetener as normal with this one. It s a nice 'go to' tea if you want a nice 'regular' tea to drink in the evening without any caffeine.

I have severe acid reflux problems that limit my drinking of black tea, and I've found that this is a wonderful alternative, as it lacks the acidity and is pleasantly sweet.
