Honeybush Customer Reviews

Honeybush is a sibling of Rooibos, cultivated in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. Its flowers smell of honey, earning this plant a sweet name. Our honeybush is sweet, gently roasted and fuller-bodied than rooibos. Clean and refreshing.

Today's packet opened to reveal a honeyed and woody smelling scoop of reddish brown granules. A steep for 5 mins at 212ºF produced russet and amber colored tisane.

Mild nutty and woody flavors presented themselves early on. Moderate honeycomb flavors smoothly slid into the mix. More mild nutty flavors continued through to the finish.

Honeybush never dissapoints, even on it's own in this plain tisane. It's got all the good qualities similar to rooibos, but with an extra honey-like flavor and also zero caffeine. A nice calming sip for the evening.

I think I like this one better as a blend, but its way better than rooibos by itself!

I love all of Adagio's flavored honeybush teas, so it was interesting to try unflavored honeybush for once. Without any other flavors present, I finally can tell that honeybush and rooibos are related. The plain honeybush does have a slightly medicinal taste to it for me - but nowhere near as bad as rooibos! This brewed up into an overall pleasant, light cup that was something warm and friendly to enjoy in the evening. But I still think I'll generally stick to flavored honeybush in the future.

Good flavor to have in combination with other teas. As a stand alone flavor, it is mild and nutty, so there is a soothing and warm factor that is very pleasant.

If I really wanted a black tea but couldn't have caffeine this would not be a horrible substitute, but it's not spot on either. Pure honeybush is a bit too strong for me.

Refreshing and lightly sweet, this tea is delicious both on its own and as a base for other blends. I prefer it blended with other flavors, but I did enjoy it as a nice evening tea on its own as well.

Honeybush is a pleasant, caffeine free alternative beverage to traditional tea. It also works very well in blend and is a bit tastier than rooibos.

A good base, glad for more caffeine free options, but a tad dull on its own.

CommuniTEA packet tasting, I will drink 100 cups of honeybush over a sip of red rooibos any day! This was a very basic herbal. I prefer honeybush blended with other flavors. This was an average tasting for me. Happy sipping!

Communitea is awesome to help refine your taste in tea. For example, I really enjoy honeybush in blends. By itself, I find it to be too close to rooibos and am unable to get past the woodsy scent and taste. This one is not for me but happy sipping to those who find this to be their cup of tea!

Drinking along with the CommuniTEA: There is definitely a nutty/woody honey essence to this tea. I personally think this is better steeped for just 2 or 3 minutes.

I love sweet teas so I naturally gravitated to Honeybush. It’s woody, but not a strong flavor, especially when comparing to Rooibos (which I also enjoy). I do prefer mixing it with other flavors and teas. Works well iced, or as a milk tea.

I enjoyed trying Honeybush on its own today with its naturally sweet and gentle woody flavor. I gave its honey-like taste an extra boost with a honey add to make it more dessert-like. No dairy was needed as this was such a smooth, non astringent and flavorful tea. Great in blends and delicious solo as a soothing caffeine free evening sip.

My CT packet had 3 g/2 tsp of earth toned short tea leaves in beige, red and brown. Brewed 12 oz. at 212*F for 5 minutes. The red hued brown liquor had a gentle woody scent and its wonderful flavor of sweet honey hay came forward more as the tea cooled to room temp. Resteeped 6 oz. and chilled a mini cup too. The cold mellowed the overall flavor for an enjoyable sweet sip. It was a nice surprise today to sample a very delicious plain rooibos tea.

CommuniTEA Sample: Honeybush ranks above Rooibos, but below most other teas, so it's not going to ever be a big winner in my book. Yes, it works OK as a carrier for other spices or flavors, but not really as a standalone for me.

Not a tea that I would choose to drink plain, but it is really good for blending with other teas. It adds a toasty sweetness without the medicinal vibe that rooibos brings.

So glad I finally tried honeybush plain! I’ve always enjoyed rooibos, red or green, and I’ve had this in lots of blends. By itself I thought it was a bit light and sweeter than classic rooibos - not as much of the “wet wood” that turns off some people. But it’s possible I’m just used to it. My kids liked it too, especially after they dunked in their fruit lollipops.

On its own, honeybush is a very basic tea. It’s clear why this is such a good carrier for many flavors when you want caffeine free. I was a little underwhelmed with this on its own, but once adding a touch of adagio’s rooibos honey, it rose up to be a lovely cup.

While i prefer honeybush to rooibos I still would not purposely drink this on its own. A good tea but prefer a tra with more depth. I do appreciate how forgiving honeybush is to steep time and temps.

This tea is sweet and light, not too distinct, but pleasant. There's no woodiness or medicinal qualities like rooibos, but also no zing like a black tea or flavored herbal. I like it, but not enough to drink it plain when other teas with more flavors abound.

This was surprisingly good on it's own. I have only tried honeybush flavored teas before and really enjoyed this. It's a cozy cup on on rainy night.

Everything about this tea is lighter than I expected. The aroma, the color, the taste. The aroma is lightly sweet; the color is a light red; the taste is subtly light and pleasantly sweet. There’s certainly a honey note to it, but honey packs more of a flavor punch than this tea. Given it’s simplicity, it’s no wonder this tea blends well with other teas and other flavors. (5+ minutes @ 212F)

I love honeybush and it's fun to try it plain, I do however think I prefer it in blends/flavored, but it was a fun experience to try it alone, nutty, smooth, and naturally a little sweet. Yum!

I will take honeybush over red rooibos any day! While I prefer honeybush in blends, this was a nice mellow cup of tea. It has a natural sweetness so I just added a smidge of honey. Relaxing cup of tea!

A sweet earthy-smelling and tasting tea. It's fine. It's not for me straight, but I can see how others would enjoy such a tea, especially when someone doesn't want caffeine.

Interesting to see so many not caring for this tea. I thought it was great. It was a straight tea with no extra additives and yet it needed nothing to enhance it it was herbal so a perfect choice for serving evening guests. It was sweet and not flying so needed no sweetener.. it had good flavor and a clean finish. I would easily enjoy this both hot or as an iced tea

I am not an herbal fan. Personally I like my caffeine. But when you need a caffeine free tea and do not want a tea that has been processed Honeybush is a great Subsitute for a black tea. It has that same finish and even color that I like.
It does not have a medicine taste, like if find in Rooibos.
Although if given the choice I would pick a flavored Honeybush. However that said it is good on its own.

This tasted like wood chips brewed in hot water to me. Reminded me of a hamster cage. Yuk! I have enjoyed honeybush in blends (unlike rooibos, I can actually drink it) but by itself it tastes nasty.

I was curious what plain honeybush would be like as I have only had it flavored. I was surprised to find it is actually pretty delicious on its own! It has this pleasantly warm, toasty, honeyed aspect that is really righteous! There’s just something about it that warms you up and revitalizes you. As someone who needs lots of herbals and decafs in my life, as I have to limit caffeine, it was nice to find another tea variety worthy of my cupboard. Happy Sipping!

Update: Still enjoy this tea especially in blends. It always sweetens the cup and tones down bitterness.
Love the flavor of this tea. I think it will become a base that I mix many other teas with. There was no bitterness or astringency.

11 Nov 20 communiTEA review: What a simple tea to review this morning! When I opened my communiTEA packet, I noticed tiny mahogany-brown colored leaf granules. Honey and woody aromas were noted.

When hot, I was greeted with a dark and deep amber-colored brew similar to red rooibos. Pleasantly mild woody tastes were present. A very slight sourness was noted. So I added a wee bit of sugar to counteract that. When warm, the sugar I added nullified the sour tastes. At this point, distinctly honey-sweet floral and woody flavors were moderate and very tasty. This was a smooth and overall pleasant drink with just the lightest bit of natural honey sweetness. A really nice buzz feel remained on my tongue upon finish. This tea satisfied simply and was fully delightful! A great addition as a base tea for blending. (5 mins @ 212ºF, no sugar added)

Not as advertised
No honey or shrubbery
Just sweet, earthy tea

A yummy cup, sure
But no honey in packet
Or bush greenery?

What! Shut the front door
There is a honeybush plant
Carry on, all's good!

Bring us SHRUBBERY!
Or we will say Ne to you
Honeybush will do!

This was my first time drinking Honeybush on its own, and I have to say it really holds its ground by itself. It has a natural sweetness to it, with a slight toasty flavor. And while it's good on its own, it's also perfect to add to blends.

Honeybush tea is my absolute favorite. So I may be biased, but this is just a good honeybush tea. It's slightly sweet, has a bit of a toasted cookie/pastry flavor. No need for sweetener. This can be used as a base for other flavors, too. Just good quality tea. If you like honeybush, I would recommend trying this

I used filtered water to give the honeybush tea to be pure as possible. Honeybush tea is perfect with a 1 1/2 tsp of honey in a 12 oz cup: steep: 5 minutes: Temp 190 . I just adore honeybush plain or flavored. Great tea to blend for Fandom blends.

I steeped this tea at 212°F for 5 minutes. I took this tea black, except for 2 tsp of tea sugar. I drank this in a 16 oz mug rather than the 10 oz mugs I normally drink CommuniTEA teas in. I wanted more tea! I don’t believe that this tea suffers from being forced to flavour more water. I can taste the sweet, yet almost tangy, flavour of the honeybush in spite of potentially weakening the tea by steeping it in more water. I have never tasted this tea by itself and am quite pleasantly surprised by what I feared would be a bland tea. I can see now why this tea is used in so many blends. I think this tea would also be nice sweetened with maple syrup instead of tea sugar.
