This was my first time having honeybush that was not in a blend. It was smooth and comforting with a little sweetness. I liked it!
Honeybush is a sibling of Rooibos, cultivated in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. Its flowers smell of honey, earning this plant a sweet name. Our honeybush is sweet, gently roasted and fuller-bodied than rooibos. Clean and refreshing.

This was my first time having honeybush that was not in a blend. It was smooth and comforting with a little sweetness. I liked it!
This is kind of tea I really like, light and mellow, nice even, non acidic flavor, it would be great as an iced tea or a cold brew
This tea is delicious. It has a natural sweetness that serves as a nice pick me up in the afternoon.
I love all types of Honeybush, and it is very smooth and a bit earthy and goes well with adagio honey.
This has a medicinal odor that I hoped would go away upon brewing. It didn’t. The medicinal taste turned me off.
In my sample, the tea smelled of dried fruit. Brewed it smelled like honey. Honeybush looks like little piece of wood and the roastednes came out in the taste. Reminded me of a summer campfire, not smokey but woodsy. I like this blended more than by itself.
I like this one. Lots of mellow earthiness with a touch of sweetness on the end. I have never had this straight up before...It is very refreshing.
I enjoy honeybush tea with other additives. This was too bland for me.
I enjoyed this plain cup of honeybush more than I've enjoyed honeybush in blends, which was a surprise to me. It wasn't cloyingly sweet like I find rooibos to be, and while this isn't a tea I think I would reach for on the shelf, it was a nice cup to start the morning off with.
Woodsy and mellow, Honeybush reminds me of rooibos but without the sharp medicinal twang. A fine decaf option by itself, a better base for sweet fun flavors.
Today's CommuniTEA is Honeybush (3-7-23). Upon opening my packet, I had a good amount of tea. I have had this tea before many, many times and love it. Today, I had it hot with some milk thistle and bamboo honey. It was very rich, sweet, and positively delicious! I would highly recommend this tea!
A tea that kind of smells like flowery hay when you open the packet. This is a great base tea to blend with other teas, especially rooibos, to sweeten and cancel out any impending bitterness. I like the hint of honey that comes with this tea once it has brewed. It is a simple, caffeine free cup of comfort which I love in the evening.
In the bag: Just the finely chopped needles of tea. They range from a light tan to orange-red to black.
On the nose (pre-steep): Surprisingly, honey is not the prominent flavor. Instead, a floral woody scent with a sour hint.
On the nose (post-steep): The same floral woody scent survived the steeping. The sour hint did not.
On the tongue (pre-sweetener): Restoring the tea's namesake, honey is finally here. A hint of it is present throughout the sip. The floral woody flavor appears just behind it.
On the tongue (post-sweetener): Sweetener helps accent the honey note. Any sourness that might have lingered is gone.
Opinion: A decent tea, but not one that I will crave. It's better as a base for other, sharper flavors that would otherwise need softening or structure. I view plain rooibos in the same way.
Preparation: First steep 7 min, second steep 14 min. Both @ 212 ℉. ½ teaspoon monk fruit sweetener
Honeybush is a smooth tea. I like that it’s decaf.
Honeybush is just a good, clean cuppa. It has a warm, inviting character that's just what I want when I don't feel like fancy-schmancy flavours in a tea. It's less woody than a rooibos and doesn't really need any sweetener, so I appreciate this tea very much.
Honeybush tastes a lot better than rooibos tea to me, it has a slight honey flavor rather than a medicinal flavor. I'm not huge on this in its own, but it works really well to add a honey note to tea blends!
When I opened my CommuniTEA packet, I smelled a sweet, woodsy aroma. I steeped the tea for about 5 minutes. Honeybush has a light, nutty, and honey like flavor. I don’t think it’s quite as sweet and flavorful as rooibos, but it tastes very pleasant!
Nice, smooth herbal tea. Great as a base to add other herbs and spices to.
Honeybush is a little sweet and honey-like on its own. It’s great for blending.
UPDATED from 11/14/21: Honeybush is forgiving if steeped too long. I own so many of the flavored ones already, but I have never had it by itself. There is a sweet maple smell when the CommuniTEA packet opens. What a beautiful deep red color the tea has, with a malty, nutty, honey flavor. Yummy earthiness fills my mouth. It is sweet on its own, but adding ½ teaspoon of sweetener to 10 oz of tea makes it even sweeter. Adding heavy whipping cream turns this tea pink, but so very creamy. It is a wonderful tea. Honeybush is great for blending, and I am so glad I used the Honeybush Chocolate and Honeybush Vanilla in my own tea blend. No caffeine and Great flavor - win-win. (5 mins @ 212 ºF).
Very tasty tea. This might be a tea that I'll add into my rotation more during the colder months. This tea has some depth to it. It has some sweetness and is also earthy.
Loved it, great flavor taste and good value quality
Honeybush is another one of my favorite teas. I discovered it accidentally at a local cafe, and found it here on Adagio. I was very pleased! I enjoy the soft honey note and the earthy quality that this tea offers.
When I want a caffeine free tea, I often turn to honeybush. It has a mild nutty flavor and is good without sugar (I tend to put sugar in a lot of my teas.)
Hint of sweet but not overpowering. I don’t like it as much as Rooibos since it doesn’t have the nuttiness but this is a very nice herbal.
Not my favorite. I was hoping to like it as much as rooibos but the flavor is a bit too subtle for my liking.
I’d never had honeybush before so I wanted to try it. It’s perfectly fine and drinkable, but isn’t going to replace my usual favorites.
Very very good loved the sweetness in this tea it’s amazing
This is a nice rooibos-based tea that is very light and refreshing.
Great flavor, subtle sweetness. I love pairing it with mint or fruit
Got this for my husband as a Teavana replacement and he loves it. I sweeten it with homemade vanilla sugar and it always makes him feel better when sick. Really nice overall flavor and scent.
Lovely herbal tea for winding down in the evening.
This was wonderful. I had been looking for a replacement for the Numi brand Bushmans Brew and this is a dead ringer for it. Great after work when you want something sweet but don’t want caffeine or more sugar.
This is a great full-bodied honeybush tea. It's lovely on its own or blended into Adagio's flavored honeybush and rooibos teas. I prefer it with a bit of milk but it's great solo too. I had to give up caffeine for health reasons and while I love lots of herbal teas, honeybush blends are one of my favorites because they're a bit earthy and you can add warm milk to get a bit of that coffee / black tea feeling without the caffeine jolt or stomach upset. That said, Adagio's honeybush blends are so good, I'd definitely drink them even if caffeinated teas were still an option for me. Enjoy!
Bought primarily to mix in with other teas but it's nice on its own as well. It's very mild, has a slightly sweet and herbal aroma.
I prefer this when it is used in blends rather than a standalone tea, and the opposite for plain rooibos. If rooibos tastes to harsh for you, this may be subtle enough.
This has a distinct flavor--a little sweet and a little nutty--and you can steep it more than once, which I find is usually not the case with herbal teas.
I love Honeybush. It s a great tea to use in dessert tea and instead of black tea with caffeine. @adagioteas
perfect base tea to make your own caffeine free blends. @adagioteas
I can't say enough about this one! It simply goes with everything!
I bought this to sweeten all of my other teas. A little added to every tea works great, is calorie-free, and doesn't spike my blood sugar. Win-win! Try the honeybush Chocolate for a different option. I use both all the time.
I love the Honeybush teas from Adagio! I especially like the Chestnut and Hazelnut variety!
Please see my review for Rooibos. They are similar, though Honeybush is a bit sweeter.
Not impressed with or without 1tsp. of sugar. Tastes like water. I guess I.m to used to black teas. Worth a try anyway. @adagioteas I mixed this with equal cream tea and found it a comfortabe and cozy cuppa. 212deg. for 3 min.
This was my first time trying Honeybush tea at all and I was pleasantly surprised! It's delightful hot and really does smell and taste like there's honey in it. By itself, it was good enough, but I definitely look forward to experimenting with blends.
I recently switched to a caffeine free diet for health reasons, so had to switch up my tea habit. I have tried several Honeybush teas and I can say this is the best so far It's the most flavorful and satisfying to drink. I use a proper tea maker and brew my teas in 1.2L batches. So I brew it using 3.5 scoops on a 10 min cycle (i.e. the basket dips in and and out for 10 min), so it's not a constant steep for 10 min.
I like the South African teas in this order: green rooibos is my favorite, then honeybush, and red rooibos is my least favorite. This has pretty consistently been my experience. So, you know, honeybush! It's good! It's fine. I have nothing in particular to say about it. This is just a nice, predictable, reliable honeybush.
Really good, actually! I was pleasantly surprised, since it's related to rooibos and rooibos teas are generally too tasteless in my opinion.
Greeted with a honey like sweetness and subtle woody tastes from the honeybush. Better with honey for rooibos added. Deepens the flavors and makes it almost caramel like. Enjoyable tea, but do prefer this flavored or in a blend. Have never tried this iced, but may try that soon. May be nice with just a vanilla simple syrup added. Steeped 212° for 7 mins. Cheers!
Today's CommuniTea packet is honeybush. It's not my favorite tea, particularly on its own. I tolerate it better in some blends. But if you like honeybush tea, the honeybush flavor is very strong. Brewed in 12 ounces of 200 degree water for 2.5ish minutes.
