Honeybush Customer Reviews

Honeybush is a sibling of Rooibos, cultivated in South Africa's Eastern Cape region. Its flowers smell of honey, earning this plant a sweet name. Our honeybush is sweet, gently roasted and fuller-bodied than rooibos. Clean and refreshing.

I really like this tea. I really like the extra sweetness of honeybush compared to rooibos.

★★★★★

I'm usually a bit skeptical when people mark teas as having their own sweetness, because what I think of as sweet is pretty intense compared to many others...but this is just lovely. It has its own, almost honeysuckle sweetness to it that is there start to finish, and it dances over your tongue going through a few variations before it's gone. It's a very interesting flavor, almost a bit pine-y, and both light and soothing. The deceptive part is that you can't smell much of this in the bag -- it's just a bit of a natural, woody scent, and while it's steeping those sweet notes start to shine. I didn't put any sugar in this, which is uncommon for my barbaric tea habits. I would like these flavors in a richer, smoother cup, too...it might be worth trying it with something like almond or soy milk, to bring out that sweetness, or mixing it with a fuller flavored tea like Cream black.

This really is the best honeybush tea I have tasted, and I'm a long standing fan. You don't need to add anything to it. Personally, I think it tastes better without it, and I steeped it much longer than I intended (about 10-15 minutes) and it didn't go bitter. If anything, it was even tastier. Honeybush tea really is a marvelous tea, and my mother, who is not an avid tea drinker, loves it and has it daily. It really is just the most delicious, savory teas.

I'm not really a fan of herbal teas, but when I read the description for this one, I couldn't pass it up. It smelled amazing when I opened the package. I like the flavor enough that I might end up trying some of the other honeybush blends.

So good! It's my favorite of the red teas. (The tea is very fine, though, and most of the time I'm left with lots of tea leaves in the bottom of my mug or pot.)

★★★★☆

This tea is a little plain on its own, but its smooth flavor really mixes well with fruity flavors. It's also pretty excellent iced.
If you're going to buy the honeybush, I'd suggest buying something to blend with it or maybe try some of the pre-made blends. (I haven't tried any of those yet.)
All in all, though, it's quite nice...and a definitely more pleasant alternative to the strength that some rooibos mixes can have.

★★★★★

Honeybush always brings a honey like caramelized smooth flavor that calms the senses.

★★★★★

This tea has a nice, mild flavor. It's slightly sweet and not very strong. A little bit of honey really brings out the naturally honey-like quality of the tea. With no caffeine and a soft, mild taste, it's a great tea to have before bedtime. It also tastes great iced.

Excellent tea. It has a bit of sweetness naturally, and the whole family enjoys it.

This is not an objectively better version of Rooibos, even though a description of sweeter and more full bodied might lead you to believe just that. Rooibos still stands strongly on its own and I prefer honeybush mixed in equal parts with Rooibos. For me they are the two parts in the equation for perfection.

Love honeybush. Prefer it over rooibos. The sweeter flavor makes it a winner. It is very smooth and leaves a smile on your face. Perfect night time tea.

Very good tea, pear flavor. It was different than everything I have tasted and caffeine free.

★★★★☆

A great alternative to rooibos, I find it a bit more floral/fruity than the rooibos but I still enjoy it and it certainly naturally sweeter.

This tea is pretty weak on its own so I usually mix it with a rooibos tea. It smells amazing and has a great natural sweetness.

★★★☆☆

I ordered this tea to give it another shot, after trying a boxed Rooibos tea from the grocery store, which tasted like cough syrup. This tea has a very pleasant honey flavor to it, but still has a very slight aftertaste, very slightly reminiscent of what to me tastes like cough syrup. I probably won't order this one again.

This tea is a bit bland even after a long steep. It's ok but not my favorite.

★★★☆☆

I bought this tea for my husband. It made his stomach a little upset when brewed full strength. But at half strength it's not bad.

★★★★☆

Has a very unique flavor. I was recommended to try a sample from a friend and I am impressed.

★★★★☆

Will be using this as a base for other flavored teas I think. Too plain on it's own. But good for what it is.

★★★★☆

Essentially the same as rooibos, yet unique in that its flavor is slightly sweeter and bolder. Delicious on its own and goes well with other blends.

★★★★☆

While it was a good tea especially for a night beverage I found it tends to be a bit bitter unless brewed the exact perfect time so it too some experimenting.

★★★★★

I was pleasantly surprised with this brew. Very sweet, yet complex taste. I would recommend to anyone.

Taste is similar to regular rooibos. Rooibos reminds me more of teaberries while this reminds me more of honey and wood. I re-steeped one batch of leaves for two hours, but it resulted in being a little too sweet while lacking the woody taste of the first steep. It never gets bitter.

I assumed this tea would taste like rooibos... which it does. However, I do get some different mild sweet flavors in this tea. Very good if you are craving tea, but cannot afford to drink caffeine.

★★★★★

Similar than Rooiboos but in my opinion sweeter and not as strong ...great tea

★★★★☆

Good flavor - a slightly sweet taste without being too overpowering. I like mine with a bit of honey in it.

★★★★★

This is very similar to rooibus. I think I like the earthy flavor of rooibus more - but this definitely has a sweeter flavor without actually being sweet. I will definitely keep this around as an alternative to rooibus.

Love it! Great tea for the afternoon. Sweet. No sugar needed.

★★★★☆

To me, this tastes like toasted rooibos. It's not as sweet as I expected it to be, but a bit more earthy. It's good, in any case!

From reading other reviews, I was expecting this one to be sweeter out of the bag. I like it better mixed with something else rather than on its own.

I liked this one much better than the vanilla honeybush. This was pleasing as a hot cup. It was sweet without sweetener of any kind. It did have a honey essence to it. It was quite enjoyable iced as well. It is something different from the same old, same old. I may not buy a 3oz packet, but a sample now and again will not go amiss. I would like to try this mixed with Earl Gray Bravo just to lighten it up a bit.
The only downside, like with the vanilla (and I'm assuming all honeybush teas) is that it is very fine and I have to use a teabag instead of an infuser unless I want a lot of floaters.

★★★★★

Tried this on whim when looking for something different, and I'm glad I did. The taste is true to it's name, as it lends a soft honey-like sweetness with an herbal background.

Makes awesome iced tea and really good hot tea. The kids really like it. Smooth and less bitter than honeybush.. barely needs sugar.

i am in love with this tea. i mix it with orange blossom honey. a-freakin-mazing.

★★★★★

A great tea to blend with fruity herbals to give them a nice vanilla-y undertone. Very good!

★★★★☆

I liked this enough to order more of it. It doesn't taste all that much like rooibos to me, but it's got its own distinct flavor that I enjoyed.

★★★★★

I've been a fan of roobois, but man this is way better. A smoother sweeter alternative to the forementioned tea.

Delicious and soothing and slightly sweet

★★★★☆

This is a nice flavor to me and is not as bold as the Rooibos and a lot sweeter flavor

★★★★★

I really this tea, especially all the flavored ones, but this is good by itself or with mixing with any of the herbal teas. It's a little bit sweeter than the rooibos teas.

★★★☆☆

I rated this okay, I ordered it thinking it'll taste like or similar to regular Rooibos but it tastes pretty different. It's not a horrible taste, just not my cup of tea. I'll stick to the traditional Rooibos.

★★★★★

I love honey bush! It tastes lighter than a rooibos to me. A nice change of pace.

★★★★☆

I love honeybush in general, so I was very surprised that my local tea shop seems to have a better grade(?) that here. However, the rooibos from here made up for it!

★★★☆☆

To be fair: rooibos has never done it for me, so 'kind of like rooibos but' wasn't appealing. As people say, this has an extremely delicate flavor. There isn't anything wrong with it - but it's unimpressive.

Honeybush is a beautifully sweet tea. I have found this tea is wonderfult oadd to any teas, such as blood orange that might tend to be somewhat strong or bitter, and it sweetens it natyrally and lessens the potency of the other flavors. This is one I will get in a bigger size!

★★★★★

Absolutely the best tea I've ever had, especially if I add a little honey to it!

★★★★★

I really enjoyed the taste of this tea - it was not too strong and perfect in the evening.

★★★★★

Very reminiscent of rooibos, but a little sweeter. Very delicious tea that I would recommend to any rooibos lover.

★★★★☆

Nice warm tea for when I don't want to have caffine.

★★★★★

Mellow and naturally just a little sweet. I find Rooibos to have a bit of a 'medicinal' flavor. Honeybush doesn't have that. Perfect caffeine-free alternative to black tea.
