This might just come down to personal tastes, but I really didn't like this. Maybe I just got a bad batch - but it smelled really...wood-chippy and tasted much the same. All I could think of was wood shavings. Again, maybe I got a bad batch, but I couldn't get it down.

Maybe I'm having the same problem with the bad batch that others have reported, but this was not a good experience (especially compared with regular black hazelnut!) It had that burned flavor that others are complaining of, and the hazelnut flavor was neither as strong nor as good as in the black hazelnut. There was also something that was slightly off to the scent - I can't quite describe it, and I don't know if it would appear in a different batch of the tea, but it definitely wasn't pleasant. It definitely didn't have the smooth, nice hazelnut flavor I was expecting. Until Adagio can sort this out, I definitely wouldn't advise ordering - it's not 100 undrinkable (...I don't think? I'm going to try mixing it with some other teas) but it's also not a very nice cup at the moment, and I'm hoping this isn't indicative of the usual honeybush hazelnut.

This one was awesome! Rich, nutty, and sweet-smelling. I could wallow in the smell of it all day long.
UPDATED Review: I don't know what went wrong when I bought a new 3oz packet of this recently, but it tasted very different and not nearly as good--sort of burned, and with no hazelnut flavor to speak of. I assumed the first one I got was defective and returned it, but the package I got back the second time in exchange had the same quality. Is there a bad batch going around?

I had ordered this originally near the beginning of August. Unfortunately, I was one of the people who received a bad bag. Like some of the reviews from the people before me, the bag had a chemical smell. There was no hazelnut, only...well, it was similar to taking a big whiff of bleach. It was awful. I sent the bag back in (with descriptions of why my bag was bad, and instructions to replace it only if the new bag was good). They were quick to tell me that they'd been working on putting a new batch together. After a week or so, the replacement bag was in the mail...and USPS promptly lost it. I let Adagio know, and they took care of everything and sent me a new bag. Third time's the charm! I just received it today, and it smells - and tastes - exactly like it should. Delicious. Adagio's service and communication was exemplary throughout the entire process.

For about 5 years, this has been one of my favorite teas. It has always tasted great with a full and deep wonderful aroma too. Unfortunately, on my last recent purchase, first I noticed a very different smell. Frankly, it smelled awful, like a very strong artificial 'chemically' smell. I tried one cup, and it tasted equally awful.
I thought it may be one anomalous bag which I happened to receive. So I returned for a replacement. Just received it yesterday, and once again, the same 'funky' smell.
Has anyone else experienced this recently (Mid July 2013)?
Here it is Sept 13, and I tried this tea again, and again, it was awful.

Nice full body, hits the sweet spot on the tongue but also has a nutty flavor

Very earth and amazing taste. It's not a tea I would normal drink but I really like it.

Not what I expected, having eaten various hazelnut items. My wife and friends find it disgusting. For some reason, it has a bitter aftertaste. We compared it against the honeybush chocolate (Which is absolutely wonderful!). I can't even give the Honeybush Hazelnut away. Maybe if I try blending it with Pero or Caffix and some creamer ...

When I opened the package, I wasn't impressed with this tea. However, I've started mixing it with rooibos vanilla, and I LOVE the blend!

This is great as a dessert tea. I like to mix it with Honeybush Chocolate and just a spoon of sugar. Sometimes I add almond milk if I want it a little creamy since I have to avoid dairy.

Didn't like this one at all - the hazelnut here tastes very artificial, and you can't taste the honeybush at all. Will definitely be skipping this one in future orders.

I purchased two bags of the honeybush hazelnut on July 6, 2013 and just opened one of them. The smell was terrible! I have been buying this tea for many years and it is my favorite. I have never had a problem in the past, but this bag smelled nothing like hazelnut. It has a chemical, plastic smell and taste. I hope that I can return it and get the original great honeybush hazelnut again!

Mix it with other tea to make a great tasting substitute for coffee.

I actually really enjoyed this tea! Very nice and nutty, and delicious with a little honey and some milk. Yum! I love mixing it with the honeybush chocolate as well, I get a very tasty treat that way!
★★★★★
I really like this tea. I can make it strong or weak, drink it hot or chilled and its nutty taste holds its flavor without being overpowering.
★★★☆☆
I was... kind of bored by this tea. It smelled wonderful in the bag but there really wasn't very much of a hazelnut taste. I tried making a couple of different pots of it, but it was only ever faint. It was all right, I guess, but I think I'd rather try some other types before getting this again.

Love, Love, Love the hazelnut! It's got a strong Hazelnut flavor which I really like. I recommend this to anyone that's a fan of that flavor!
★★★★★
I love the hazelnut black tea, so I was really excited to try the honeybush version. It's just as good. warm, nutty, and just lovely. I can see this becoming a favorite already!

Very sweet! I like my tea strong and I did not have to steep this tea for as long as usual. the hazelnut flavor is very strong and might be overpowering if you steep it for too long.

An absolute favorite! Full body with a nutty scent and flavor. The hazelnut mixes well with the brightness of honeybush, and benefits from adding a pinch of cinnamon or chai-like spices to it as well.

I really love the nutty sweet flavor of this tea hot!

My first experience with Honeybush was this Hazelnut flavor. I like the nutty and roasty elements of this. I was only able to have one cup before it disappeared from the cupboard but would think of ordering again when I'm in the mood for hazelnut!

This was an instant favorite. The honey and hazelnut flavors work perfectly together and lend a nutty sweetness to the dusty earth tones of the honeybush. A little milk smooths things out further. Honey would work perfectly to sweeten, but it doesn't really need it.
Love it both hot and iced!

A wonderfully warming, sweet tea! I feel like it would go well with some milk or cream added, but I enjoyed it just fine by itself. May be a bit too spicy for some people's tastes, but as a lover of hazelnut, it was just the right amount.
★★★★★
I have tried other teas which claimed to have nutty flavor (coconut and almond oolong come to mind), but this is the first one which lived up to expectations. Others in my household thought it needed something else to complement the hazelnut, so we tried it with rooibos caramel which was an instant hit. I will definitely be purchasing a larger bag of this one.

Hazelnut. It's very clear what flavor this is, and when you brew it, it's this gorgeous rich golden brown color. I'm going to try blending it into something, but it's actually great as-is.

When I first opened this tea, it smelled like coffee and I didn't think I would like it. However, once steeped, the hazelnut flavor is not overwhelming and really complements the sweet honeybush. I usually steep about double the suggested amount of this tea because I enjoy strong, full-bodied flavors.

This is my favorite caffeine free tea! I love hazelnut black tea, so I was pretty confident that I would like this as well and I was right! I'm a night owl so when I get a craving for tea at 10 pm I can satisfy it. I add a couple of spoonfuls of honey to sweet it a little.

Smooth, light-bodied and a little bit naturally sweet, with a *very* pleasant aroma and a beautiful redwood-rose sort of color. This tea has a terrific (but light, not heavy, if that makes any sense) nutty finish, and the aroma, while recognizably hazelnut, has an unexpected fruity tinge to it.
Although my paradigm tea is fuller-bodied and darker (I am a black tea girl in my heart of hearts), in this case I would prefer to drink Honeybush Hazelnut over its cousin, the Hazelnut black tea, because I think the former has a more distinctive hazelnut taste, and the nutty flavor just suits its honeybush base so well.
★★★★★
I love this tea because of the nice finish. I would compare it to what Nutella would taste like if it was offered as a tea. You will especially love this tea if you like nutty flavors.
★★★☆☆
I guess I thought honeybush and rooibos were about the same. I think the rooibos has much deeper flavor. So this tea was good, but the rooibos is so much better.
★★★★★
Right away, this tea SMELLS absolutely amazing. It's naturally sweet and nutty, and the flavor comes through perfectly. One of my favorites.

A great cup of tea to end the day with! The aroma of hazelnut is stronger than the taste, but it's still quite lovely.

If you like honeybush chocolate then you should really take the time to try this tea that has a gentle flavor but is really worth the try.

This was my first time trying honeybush, and upon opening the bag, the smell was... odd, definitely not what I was expecting. But any reservations I had instantly vanished when I tasted how fricking delicious this tea is. It's nutty and reminds me of coffee a bit, even though I suppose it really doesn't taste similar. I can drink this straight without any sugar or milk, though I did try it with a shot of vanilla syrup and that was quite tasty.

Hazelnut is one of my favorite blends, but if I drink black tea after a certain hour I'm up all night. I was delighted to find this red tea. It's far sweeter than the black tea version. I unthinkingly added sugar and cream before tasting and quickly learned my lesson. It's extremely sweet as it is.
★★★★★
I've never had honeybush tea before but this was awesome. Strong hazelnut flavor that was sweet and smooth to drink. This is going to be one of my go-to night time/after dinner teas. I prefer this over the vanilla roobios. (Roobios sometimes gives me a dry-tongue feeling, honeybush does not seem to do the same)
★★★★☆
I didn't care for this one at first, but after a couple cups, I've come to enjoy it. The honeybush is stronger than the hazelnut.

This is by far better than I was expecting, and I was expecting it to be good. It is sweet, nutty, and has a wonderful aroma. I would highly recommend this to any fans of honeybush or hazelnut.

Honeybush huzelnut is one of my go-to favorite teas. It's great for busy mornings too because it doesn't get bitter if oversteeped.

i don't hate this tea, but i don't like it either. it wasn't strong enough in the flavor department for me.
★★★★★
A very nice cup that did indeed taste like hazelnut. I had mine with sugar and cream. No bitter aftertaste. Highly recommended!
★★★☆☆
This smells delicious in the bag and when brewed. Unfortunately, the taste just isn't there for me. I tried doubling the amount of tea used but instead of enhancing the hazelnut it just brought out the honeybush. This is by no means bad just not, as they say, my cup of tea.
