Pu-Erh Poe Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor. Freshly damp forest aroma, warm hay inside a barn, mushrooms and savory vegetables. Wilted flower notes and faintly dark chocolate texture.

I was very curious to try pu erh tea and this did not disappoint. It couldn't be my every day but it's nice for a change!

The hay is strong with this one. The fishy taste of unwashed leaves didn't bother me at first, but when I tried it again, it was too much. So wash the leaves. Like I said, hay is strong in both smell and taste with hints of mushroom and old tobacco and some sweetness. It has a beautiful color and is fairly smooth in overall taste. I don't see myself drinking this one personally, though I could see the allure, but it's an interesting tea to try.

Difficult for me to distinguish from the Dante. I like them both a lot. Smell of soil, hay, manure, earth... really lovely. I do 190 or hotter and get a few steeps out of it. Nothing added.

I mostly smell and taste hay and earth in this tea. This is exactly the type of smooth-bodied, rounded taste I look for in a pu erh.
I smell a hint of the fish smell that others complain about, when I smell it while it's steeping. Just a bare hint, though, it's far from overpowering, and I don't taste anything fishy at all. It's clearly fermented, and that is a unique taste, but not objectionable to me at all. I eat yogurt every day, I love aged cheese and beer, fermentation is my friend.

Since the water I'm using for this is from the office hot-water-dispenser which I think is lower than the recommended temp for this tea, I make up for it by letting it steep for 10 minutes. I really enjoy the taste after that time, the 5 minute mark is too delicate for my given water.

This is probably my all-time favorite tea - deep, rich, musky, and intensely flavorful. I hear the pu ehr teas have less caffeine than other black varieties, but pu ehr poe leaves me wonderfully alert and clear-headed, with a warm sense of well-being. I highly recommend it!!

Pu erh Poe tastes like what I imagine would be umami: earthy and pleasantly savory. Very smooth. This tea is expensive (to me) but worth it as an occasional 'me time'. I brewed it as I would a black tea.

This tea takes a little getting used to but not to bad after a 1/2 a cup or so.

Pu erh Tea has become one of my favorite types of tea as I tend to forget my steeping and it never comes out bitter! I loved this tea.

★★★★★

This is my favorite, dependable pu erh tea from Adagio. The taste is always smooth and wonderfully full. I rebrew the leaves and the second cup is as good as the first. I enjoy sharing this with guests who've never tried a pu erh tea.

I think I prefer Adagio's flavored Pu Erh varieties, like Pu Erh Tahiti and Hazelberry, but this isn't bad. It's earthier and weightier (not sure how else to describe it) than Pu Erh Dante. Its smell makes me think of barnyard animals, maybe horses, which should be a bad thing but somehow isn't. It's a very reassuring sort of tea. It also rebrews pretty well and is hard to mess up. (Tip, if you're having trouble brewing a decent first cup: Boil water, pour enough on the tea to cover it all, and let it sit for 45 seconds or so. Discard that water, and then brew the tea for the recommended amount of time.) Still, considering my preference for the flavored varieties and the fact that they're cheaper, I'll probably stick with those in the future.

Still love it. Can be used hot or cold. May accompany a meal, or be on its own.

Love this tea. Flavor gets deeper as it stays. Creates wonderful cold/ice tea. Real treat!

I wanted to like this more than I did. Still it is very good

Pu erh teas have become one of my very favorite. Unfortunately I just don't seem to be able to pick up on some of the flavor profiles that are stated to exist in this tea. I get that ' been buried in a sack for a long time' earthen flavor. and little else. When consumed hot this tea produces little flavor. After it cools to room temperature it does start to give a slight mineral taste. With the addition of a little coconut palm sugar a much darker and more pleasant flavor develops. I do like this tea and would keep it in my collection of teas. I also recommend this one to you if you have not tried it as yet. I give this tea a personal rating of 'IBF' (it be funky)...Steve.

Flavor a bit too earthy for my liking. Mushroom like.

This is now my preferred pu ehr. I started drinking it because clinical studies are showing that pu ehr tea is good at reducing triglycerides. It takes a bit of getting used to. Don't judge it by its smell when dry, which is often fishy. Brewed in the cup, it has a wonderful flavor true to everything they say in the description. I can attest that you cannot actually oversteep this tea. I have started a cup, gotten busy, and returned to discover it 15 - 30 minutes later, and it was still good, not astringent or bitter. so now it's the tea I brew when I want to have tea to take with me, but have several things to finish before I'm ready to go. I drink my tea without any sort of additives, and this one has enough character to be interesting every time.

★★★★★

This one is going to stay in my rotation. Just earthy enough without being overpowering. Also has a nice kick of caffeine.

★★★★★

Beautiful cup of tea. Smooth and earthy. Compared to pu erh Dante I'd judge it to be just a bit lighter and gentler tasting, but very similar.

★★★★★

A full bodied woodsy tea. Very smooth. A rather dark tea.

★★★★☆

I'm experimenting with the different pu erh teas and after trying the Dante and giving it a 2nd/3rd try, I was little tentative at trying the Poe, but was pleasantly surprised. I found it enjoyable, not bitter. Seemed lighter than I was expecting. I plan to continue with my sample pack and if I change my opinion about it after next brewed batch, I'll provide an update. So far, so good! UPDATE: I've continued to brew, but changed my impression slightly as I have found the smell a bit off, luckily does not taste like it smells.

I remember the first time I tried this tea I despised it. Threw out the pot and never had it again.

Until now. After trying some pu erh chorange and pur erh dante, I got more acclimated to the taste. Now I've grown to like pu erhs, including pu erh poe.

It has a very earthy taste to it, like a cup of dirt that tastes good. Good tasting dirt. I know, that makes no sense, dirt is practically by definition bad tasting, but that's really the best way to describe it.

This is a tea you should try a few times before you give it a verdict, or at least try one of the other pu erh blends first. Either way, you should most certainly give this tea a try at some point.

I rated this tea as ok only as a cautionary review. Make sure you like pu erh before you order one. I learned that pu erh is not really my thing.

It smells like a sheep barn, which probably sounds gross for a tea but I love it. It smells earthy, warm, and a little musky which I find all very comforting. I find the taste bolder than other pu erh's I've had and the aroma sets it apart. If you're new to pu erh I'd say try something more subtle. If you're a fan of pu erh you'll probably like this one.

This is just the second pu erh tea that I've tried. The taste is interesting and earthy, makes me feel like I'm getting health benefits from it, ha ha.

★★★★☆

This tea is only by personal preference not my favorite of the pu erhs. It has to do with the certain flavors added to it, but it is still very good. I can still taste the quality, though I'm more partial to the hazelberry, spice, and tahiti.

Earthy with an old-hay funk, Poe took some getting used to, but it was absolutely worth it! First pot was almost cringe-worthy in its earthy-ness. Second pot, I added a touch of sugar and it was good but too sweet (I don't normally sweeten my tea at all). Third pot straight up and it's lovely. No bitter notes, with a mushroom/dark forest vibe. I'm so glad I took a chance on this one -- Poe will definitely find a spot in my tea rotation.

Surprisingly good! I was not expecting much, but this tea has all the expected characteristics found in a good puer.

★★★★★

Beautiful full bodied black tea. No bitterness, great with milk.

★★★★☆

Aroma is very earthy and damp like a forest in the summer after a previous nights rainfall. Mushrooms and damp wood - I dig this. However, I was hoping this fermented black tea would be a bit funkier. Not the best Shou Pu Erh I have had but not bad by any means. It would also be nice to know the age of this Pu Erh as some other website state this information. A solid tea if you are looking to start exploring the world of Pu Erh.

very great tea, doesn't have the moldy alfalfa smell. just a clean wonderful tea. has the color of coffee, great flavor without any after taste like coffee has (yuck!), hate coffee. don't be afraid of this one.

Too strong, prefer the pu erh hazelberry for pu erh.

★★★★★

One of my favourites! It's dark and delicious. I'm not too great at describing teas, but trust me that this is a good one.

★★★★★

I never had pu erh tea until I started spending time in China for work. It's really grown on me - not as an every day tea, but once-in-a-while for something different. I still have a good supply of what I brought home with me, but I think this may be a good sub if I don't make it back soon to buy more in China.

★★★★☆

Nice earthy taste. Good for multiple steeps. Strong flavor. Kinda tastes like clay.

This tea tasted a little strange to me. It's not bad, it's just different. It reminded me a little of rooibos at times, actually.

★★★★★

Love this pu ehr. great for multiple infusions. Smoooooth

★★★★★

I add ginger, fresh lemon juice, and some organic stevia to my Pu erh Poe. I also enjoy it plain, but I when I have the time I like to add the other yummy goodness to my Pu erh Poe. It is also nice with hibiscus flowers and a little stevia. (I embellish all my teas with these flavors, but the mark of a great tea is that it is delicious without additions. Pu erh Poe meets the mark of a great tea!)

★★★★★

I love pu erh tea. I have a few that I really enjoy, but I'm always looking for others to try. The poe smells like a typical pu erh with high tannin and aged muskiness. But the first infusion was not too powerful, like some pu erh teas can be. It was dark chocolate brown, almost like coffee with rich leather/tobacco flavor and fall leaf aroma. The second infusion was really delicious - slightly lighter but with full flavor of leather and a slight sweetness on the finish. The third infusion was very light, both in color and flavor, without even a hint of bitterness from overextraction. The fourth infusion was too weak, just a shadow of the tea's initial character (but it's very rare in my opinion to find a tea that can hold up to 4 infusions). Each of the infusions has a unique and delicious character. If you're new to driinking pu erh, you may want to use a sharing pitcher and combine the infusions for more uniform taste. But if you are like me, you will take time to enjoy and contemplate the evolving flavors and nuance in each of the first three infusions separately.

I use yixing teapot and cups 1 rounded teaspoon for 120ml boiling water.
1st infusion 3 min
2nd infusion 2.5 min
3rd infusion 3 min
4th infusion 3.5 min (not recommended unless you really love to explore multiple infusions and changing flavors)

Very nice, very full bodied pu erh. If you have never had pu erh it make require some getting used.

★★★☆☆

I wasn't too impressed. I think when it comes to pu erh teas, I'll have to stick with the ones I tried and liked- Tahiti, Chorange, and Hazelberry. It was okay and the hint of smoke was nice and all, but I don't think I'd order this one again.

★★★★☆

My first pu erh, had a full bodied albeit mild flavor.

★★★★★

love this pu erh too, I'm not sure which is my favorate, pu erh poe or pu erh dante.

★★★★★

I tasty pu erh to enjoy, especially when you are feeling under the weather. All that earthiness leading to better health.

★★★★☆

Added 1t of sugar. A nice, leathery tea. Not one of my favorites, but pleasant.

This has a good earthy flavor, a hint of the tannins that I'm not overly crazy about. It's a lovely pu erh tea but it's not my beloved pu erh dante.

this tea has a strong black tea flavor, but is surprisingly smooth. I, personally think it is great (or at least very good), and quite delicious. But, it may be a bit strong for some.

★★★★★

This is my first Pu Erh, and that being said I didn't know what to expect. I'm just trying new teas to see what I like. This tea has very strong tones. I used to 'buck bales' for farmers as a teen, and the first thing I thought of was 'Alfalfa.' And 'Wet Horse.' So, if you are looking for an earthy flavored tea, I recommend this. If you are looking for a light white or green tea experience, this will not be it.

I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that. This is a very musty tea, that feels oversteeped even when it's not.

★★★★★

Very smooth flavor, deep color like coffee. Mild but surprising untransparent in hue.

★★★★★

I really love this tea. It has an earthy tone to it that may not be for everyone, but if you like any of the other pu erh teas then this one is perfect. It tastes earthier with s mulchy taste that is perfect chilled for summer or hot in the winter.

This is a good serviceable Pu Erh. It does not quite know my socks off the way some Pu Erhs I have tasted do, but it is easily something I can drink every day. Like all pu Erhs, it almost never gets bitter either.
