Pu-Erh Poe Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor. Freshly damp forest aroma, warm hay inside a barn, mushrooms and savory vegetables. Wilted flower notes and faintly dark chocolate texture.

This is a wonderful tasting tea! It brews multiple times and I find the second brew the best.

My husband and I just weren't in love with this type of tea. The fermented leaves give it a very distinct flavor which may not be to everyone's liking. We enjoyed giving it a try anyway.

★★★★★

I have recently fallen in love with pu erh teas. This one did not disappoint and will most likely become one of my go to morning teas.

★★★★☆

This does taste an awful lot like alfalfa - or like a barn smells. That said - it's better than it sounds.

Kinda makes you feel like you're lawn chairing it on the countryside. Very nice.

This tea has a mellow flavor. It is very earthy and smells wonderful.

★★★★☆

This tea was a good tea to try but has not been a fan favorite.

★★★★★

This is another great pu erh tea, I like to steep it at 165 degrees for 3 minutes so it still has all the flavors but can be drank quickly after steeping. Smells and tastes delicious.

My favorite tea, rich, smooth flavor. Never bitter. Looks like coffee!

I love the rich, earthy taste of this unusual tea. hearty but not at all tannic.

Love the earthy hay like quality to this tea. Different then what I'm used too.

★★★★★

Excellent example of a basic pu erh tea, rich and earthy.

★★★☆☆

My husband enjoys drinking this tea. It has an earthy taste to it.

★★★★★

this tea is so smooth, it's equally delicious cold or hot

★★☆☆☆

This one was not to my taste at all. Too smokey and not as smooth as I expect from puerh teas.

I'm new to Pu erh poe, but this was good. Matched the description well!

I don't usually drink black teas, but I tried this one. The taste is fantastic. Tastes just as good as any green I've had with non of the bitterness I associate with blacks. I even purposely oversteeped it once and it still tasted fine. I get about 4 good steeps from each serving, which I consider good. The one downer is the smell. It takes getting used to. It's not a deal-breaker at all, but I don't find the smell pleasant. The taste makes up for it though. Will definitely order again.

★★★★☆

I normally like my tea very strong, so when I saw the recommended steeping time was 3-5 min, I brewed it for 5 minutes. However, that was too strong, even for me. I tried 3 minutes the next time and that was much better. This is earthy and intense. I liked it, but it will be an occasional tea for me, not an every day tea.

This pu erh tea was the most surprising to me. Other reviewers said it smelled and tasted like a stable. Well it definitely does smell like a stable - reminds me of having horses, but the taste was very pleasing and rich. I prefer to steep mine a bit longer for a stronger cup of tea. Add a touch of honey or stevia, sometimes lemon and it makes a wonderful cup of tea. Don't be turned off by the 'stable' references. This is a good cup of tea!

Very earthy flavor. Good for digestive system. Would reccomend in future.

Flavor wasn't as strong as some other Pu-Erhs I've had.

A little heavy for my taste. I would still drink it for a change.

★★★★★

This is a strange and great tea. Definitely not for everyone, but I loved it! I was actually able to use the same leaves up to three times, brewing for a longer duration each time, but the tea tasted the same!

It was like drinking liquified fish. I have to admit that it was my first truly bad experience with tea.

★★★☆☆

This one tastes like a leather satchel. When I added a little honey, it tasted like a sweet leather satchel. lol! I am sad though, because I really LOVE Pu Erh but I just don't see me drinking much of this one on it's own. I think will try blending in some Green Cocomint next time.

★★★★★

though I am not usually a big fan of pu erh tea, this one was very smooth and not too overwhelming. this is is a good intro to the pu erh world for those who have never tried.

★★★★☆

Was a nice gift for my father and he enjoys it, but I have not tried it myself yet.

★★★☆☆

Unless I strain it and drink the second brewing, it has a very mushroomy flavor that I did not find pleasant

This is definitely an acquired taste, but one I like to return to on a regular basis. Earthy is the best description.

★★★★★

So far, this is the only tea purchased from Adagio I have not been a fan of. With that said, it turns out I just don't enjoy pu erh teas. I gave it to my boyfriend, and he loves it. It's one of his favorite teas right now.

I love this tea. It might take some time getting used to as it tastes quite earthy. I also bought the Dalian teapot to brew it in. I put about a teaspoon and let it steep for a few minutes. I also reuse the leaves up to 5 times.

★★★★★

A wonderful tea. I had previously had no experience with pu erh, but had been told I might want to try it. Poe is a bit lighter than dante, which makes it a wonderful afternoon tea versus a morning tea.

My favorite tea from Adagio. Very strong but also smooth.

★★★★★

I really enjoy this tea. I have replaced it many times.

★★★★☆

I was surprised at the negative remarks this one has. I like it. The fermented flavor isn't strong but there. There is an earthy quality to these that other teas just don't have. Way better than pu erh cakes. Not as harsh.

★★★★☆

I had never had Pu Erh before I tried this one. It wasn't as earthy as described. It was the smoothest tea I've ever had. I usually add honey and this did not need it atall. I see why people drink it to replace coffee but it's a stretch. It tastes like a deep dark silent void .

★★☆☆☆

This tea tastes exactly how the name implies. poo poo. Imagine drinking brown leaf water that's been sitting there for months in the fall.

★★★★☆

This is a very different tea for me as it is. It handles multiple steeping beautifully though by the third steep it does start to take on an earthy seaweed flavor that I don't enjoy necessarily in summer though I suspect I'll have to revisit this review in winter. I does add a beautiful note of earthy strength to the jasmine green and THAT is a beautiful blend using the two together!

★★☆☆☆

I like some pu erh, such as pu erh hazelberry, but this is too fishy tasting for me.

★☆☆☆☆

I recently started drinking some pu erh tea. I like the chorange and hazelberry, but this poe is awful. It tastes very fishy, almost rotten. Perhaps unflavored pu erh is just not for me. I couldn't even finish a cup of this one.

★★★★☆

After a brief rinse of hot water, brewing yields the characteristically dark brown, almost opaque liquor of pu erh, similar to coffee. The faint fish sauce aroma is definitely there, but it's overshadowed by yes, horses. The flavor isn't terribly overpowering and is relatively bright, with clear notes of damp leaf litter and sweet earth. The flavor holds up well through a second brewing but I doubt a third would be worth it.

Really smooth earthy quality to the tea. Steeping longer gives more flavor but not tannic.

Pu Erh teas are kind of love or hate. I hate them, but my SO is a big Scotch fan, and loves Pu Erh Poe. It shares a number of the same descriptions and flavor components as peaty, smoky Scotches, and those are what my SO enjoys so much about this tea.

★★★★☆

Deep deep ruby tea, looks almost jet black until you look throu the light taste that grows on you, first sip I wasn't sure but after that I'm starting g to like it more and more very different than other teas. I super recommend starting with a sample size. This tea is NOT for everyone!

★★★★☆

i am new to pu erh and have only have had a coupe of them. i like this one

★★★★★

Smooth, rich Pu Erh flavor. This Pu erh is a dark flavorful cup of tea that is smooth and heavy enough to replace your morning cup of coffee, Dark and rich texture as you sip from each cup.
If you like traditional Pu erh, you HAVE to try this!

★★★★★

A wonderful earthy tea where it brings me to my early years making mud pies, but
of course has a smoother flavor.

★★★☆☆

Less strong than the dante pu erh, but still reminiscent of hay and leather. Not my favorite.

So very earthy! That is what I'm getting here. I can imagine my aunt's horse stables, but minus the manure. I get that hay and saddle leather vibe in the scents. The actual taste is also very much like a dry, sweet hay. I'd advise giving it a quick 30-second rinse before fully steeping it. I can imagine this strong bodied tea could blend well with other samples. On its own it's very unusual, but it needs something more for me. I'll definitely play around by blending it with other teas in the future.

This is a nice plain tea. It's not amazing to me, but it's pretty good. Might be a good tea to use as a base for a blend.

Damp forest mulch, wet mushrooms and mud in the best way possible. The taste explosion was almost overwhelming during the first cup but I found myself craving the vivid flavor for days afterwards. Multiple short brews (wash and 15/20/20/25 seconds) brings out the flavor best.
*This flavor is very strong and not for everyone
