Pu-Erh Dante Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor and woodsy tones. Clean, damp forest aroma, dried mushrooms, leather, and earth. A slight sweetness of figs or dates yields a mellow, grounding cup.

I want to like this tea, and I do like how you can steep it for a long time and it won't get bitter, but I can't get over the fishy smell. Not always, but sometimes it also tastes fishy.

This is a tea that you need to keep a sharp eye on as it brews, and don't default to the time recommended. There has been many times I've had to pull the infuser out early because it's already dark. I've also enjoyed this tea in my kumo teapot, brewing this in smaller amounts.

The taste of this Pu Erh is very earth, dirt in a good way. Peaty but also creamy in mouthfeel.

This is one of the more bolder flavored Pu-erhs that I ever had. Its strong mineral essence and umami aroma doesn't make this suitable for everyone. But its distinctiveness makes it stand out in the crowd of Pu-erh options.

Fantastic tea. I seeped it four times over and it still tasted just as strong as the first cup. A very nice woodsy, almost mushroomy taste

Mulchy, earthy, composty tea. Very strong flavor too.

I have tried several Pu-Erh teas and remain unconvinced. I don't hate them, but there are so many other great teas to drink.

This pu-erh variety is more a little more subdued than the Poe, but it has much stronger savory notes of fish and fungus.

Lovely tea! Very good
Taste even with multiple steeping

★★★★☆

This was my first time trying pu-erh and I think it was a good introductory tea. It does smell very fishy. I rinsed it for about 10 seconds before steeping, and the final result tasted nothing like fish! A very smooth, earthy taste. Surprisingly mellow, with no bitterness. I don’t think I’ll drink this regularly, but it will be great on days when I want something unique.

This I did not expect to like because of the smell when you open the package but I was delighted with this one. I drink my teas plain.

The tea smells vegetative, fishy, and a bit smokey, like nori. The liquor is a dark brown with a musty, woody, mushroom scent. The cup is very woody and musty with subtle mineral notes and a dry finish. This is exactly what I expect from a quality pu-erh. It may not be for everyone, but if you are a pu-erh lover this is definitely a great choice.

I tried this tea because I wanted to branch out and expand my palate. This was a mistake on my part. I should have heeded the description; words like 'damp' and 'dried mushrooms' are accurate. I despise mushrooms and am not keen on an earthy flavor profile. If you are, then this tea is worth a try...if not, steer clear.

Amazingly smooth. I had never tried Pu-erh before and this one has been great!

★★★★★

Very funky and smooth. Perfect for a little kickstart to the day. I found it helps me stay alert.

I'm not a fan of this. It tasted ok but it smelled very bad. The smell reminded me of those pellets you feed goats at petting zoos.

It has been so long since I've had a good, plain Pu-ehr! I forgot how much I like it.

I'm not very familiar with pu-erh tea, but I enjoyed this. The flavor is earthy rather than malty ... think mushrooms and tree bark, but in a good way. There is no bitterness or astringency. I drank it with a little milk and no sweetner. This would also be good for cooking tea eggs.

★★★☆☆

This is the first tea from Adagio that I didn't really enjoy. To clarify, I don't think it's the tea's fault. I didn't realize how powerful and... stinky? Pu-Erh is. I did enjoy it more when I listened to some advice here about short steep times. Either way, I'll be giving this to a friend. My advice is to order a sample of this first, if you're not sure you've had Pu-Erh before.

First time trying a Pu-Erh tea. I was apprehensive. I shouldn't have been. It was delicious! I got multiple steepings from one teaspoon of tea leaves. I can see this one quickly becoming one of my favorites.

First pu erh ever , there is a sight fishy ness to it but it doesn’t annoy me . Pretty good tea

my first pu-erh, and I'm sold--very earthy, full-bodied flavor

★★★★★

Really nice! I don't like fishy flavors and was surprised that people thought it as such. Definitely earthy, can be sweetened or with milk. Lots of variety to enjoy. Love how dark and rich it is.

When I first opened up my samploe f Pu-erh Dante I noted an earthy aroma, smelling like dried mushrooms-all in a good way. My first brew I steeped it for 3 minutes. The flavor was malty, earthy, and mushroomy. It had a very smooth feel in my mouth. Upon reading some reviewers tip on rinsing it for 15 seconds before brewing, I decided to try that for my second brew. It toned down the mushroom taste and really enhanced it's smoothness. This may become my next go-to tea behind my favorite: Lapsang Souchong.

Out of curiosity I decided to mix 1/2 tsp. of Pu-Erh Dante with 1/2 tsp of Lapsang Souchang to see what they would do with each other. I LOVED the combination. The Lapsang toned down the earthiness of the Pu-erh Dante, and Pu-erh Dante gave Lapsang a more smooth finish. Definitely a mix I will be making with the two.

While it's not my favorite, for a Pu-erh it's good.

I like how light this one is, but I think I'm tasting more water than tea. May need to experiment a bit to see if I can get more of the earthy flavor everyone is talking about. As it stands, I'm not quite as fond of this as I was hoping to be.

Absolutely delicious Puerh! Smooth, deep and rich! Dry leaves smell of a damp forest, leather, and earth. The brewed infusion is slightly sweet and has a creamy mouth feel. Very enjoyable cuppa and an easy way to have shou PuErh as a daily drinker.

It's a very interesting flavor, which I really enjoyed despite it being different from what I normally like.

Ok so the other reviews intrigued me enough to try this tea. I opened the pouch and was struck by such a strong aroma of what I can only describe as an aquarium store. I have to admit I didn't actually taste this tea right away. I started with the chocolate chai blend first, and enjoyed it, so I knew a little more about what to expect with this one. I find it strangely comforting. It's a tea that you're either going to love or hate.

A good Pu-Erh is hard to come by, and Adagio’s Pu-Erh Dante is one of those rate teas that is truly satisfying.

If you like an earthy puerh, this one is for you. A quick rinse and the following steeps are much better. This would be good in a blend to add some grounding or earthy depth to a flavor profile, but it is a bit flat just drinking it straight. @adagioteas

This is my daily go to. I adore pu-ruh tea, and this is a nice full bodied cup every time. Earthy, dark, and just what to expect in a pu-ruh tea. I find I truly cannot over steep also which is a good thing for someone as forgetful as me!

★★★★★

Tastes great and perfect amount of caffeine! Highly recommend this.

★★★★★

To me it tastes and smells like freshly made Japanese dashi. I absolutely adore this tea. So much umami and depth in one little cup. I find a 10 second rinse is perfect followed by a 3 minute steeps. Holds up well after 3 steeps and the minute flavors surface more in each consecutive cup.

I microwaved my water for 3 minutes, so it was about 140 degrees, and steeped my Pu-Erh Dante with Senna Leaf, Burdock, Aniseed, and Garden Herbal Honey. It was so good for my upset stomach! It really helped with gas and other bathroom issues. This tea really absorbs the sweetness of the honey so whatever honey or sweetener you put with it make sure you REALLY want to taste that sweetener. This tea was super good and I would highly recommend it!

I actually want to give it a 4.5 instead of 5. It is an excellent Pu-Erh, almost as good as Pu-Erh Poe. I rounded up due to the price, you will pay way more for Poe than Dante, and the Dante is still a very good tea. Very earthy taste, sometimes as others mention the smell could be slight fishy, but I think it's just how Puh-Erh is. You either love it or hate.
Update: I find a 10 second rinse with boiling water really smooths it out. I wouldn't go longer as it will weaken the tea too much and lose flavor. Experiment to your taste.

Maybe the oddest tea I buy, and the flavor isn’t easily described… if I say it’s a bit swampy, that sounds awful. It has such a peculiar flavor… and I really like the way it changes the longer you steep it. My favorite afternoon tea!

Earthy, almost fishy taste. Strange review, but I like it.

★★★★★

This one has an amazing aroma and makes me want to keep drinking more. It's so soothing.

★★★★☆

Washed the tea in cold water for 15 seconds to eliminate some of the funk. After brewing for 4 minutes, this was quite pleasant, especially with a little sugar. It's got more flavor and aroma than some of the other Chinese teas. I got a sample, but I will be buying a larger size soon.

Update: I soon stopped washing the tea altogether. Tastes fine. You either like it or you don't.

I have been drinking a particular Pu-erh for many years. The company stopping making it and I have been in a search to replace it. THIS is it! Earthy and rich

A nice, light pu-ehr that's not too 'dirty' as some can be. May be a good introduction to pu-ehr teas.

★☆☆☆☆

I am hesitant to give a 1-star review because that implies there was something wrong with the product itself, which is not true. I'm sure the product was fine, it just wasn't my cup of tea. This is the first Pu-Erh I have ever tried, and even with rinsing the leaves first I just could not get past the overwhelming (at least to me!) aroma and taste of fish. I will keep experimenting with Pu-Erh's, but my first foray into this type of tea was not at all a success.

My most favorite ever. It brews up looking strong but it doesn't taste that way. One of the best things about any Pu-erh is the ability to get 2-3 cups from each brewing and it doesn't taste weak or tannic.

★★☆☆☆

My first experience with pu-erh tea and it was kind of a disappointing one. Followed the directions on the package but REALLY struggled with the musty smell. The taste as-is wasn't much better and I think attempting to sweeten it actually made it worse. My understanding is that pu-erh tea is fermented and that may have had a lot to do with my unpleasant reaction to it. I wouldn't say 'don't buy this' cuz I don't think the product itself was at fault, but I definitely didn't enjoy it myself.

It both tastes and smells like a root cellar and I say this as a compliment. The ideal compromise for days when you want to abandon your life to become a hermit, but actually facing the consequences of that is too emotionally difficult. Unlike life, this tea is extremely forgiving and never bitter.
