Pu-Erh Dante Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor and woodsy tones. Clean, damp forest aroma, dried mushrooms, leather, and earth. A slight sweetness of figs or dates yields a mellow, grounding cup.

No. A million times no. I rinsed it with an entire kettle of hot water, and it's still fishy. I can't do it. Steeped 3 min @ 195º.

This a strong earthy tea. I did rinse it first and drank two cups really fast!

Dark and earthy, but oh so mellow. This is about as full bodied as it gets.
I taste cocoa and dates. Excellent added to other blends; gives a deeper, rich flavor.

This is my first time trying plain pu-erh and I love it. It's earthy, woody and it's smooth. It also brews up dark. I didn't do a rinse because it didn't smell fishy at all.

Puerhs are so cool, this one gives me underground ancient city vibes

New to the tea scene but this really blew my mind. Smells like a barnyard and has a deep rich earthy, with a mushroomy flavor at the end.

I am a newbie to Pu-Erh tea but I enjoyed the flavor of this. I did not get a fishy taste, although the bag may have had a slight fishy smell. The flavor to me was reminiscent of damp earth and wood and was great with a touch of sweetness.

★★★★☆

Very different tea. I read the tea girl of hummingbird lane and wanted to try the tea of this book. Very woodsy and earthy. I didn’t make it as strong as suggested and I am glad I didn’t. Many of the ladies in my book club loved it.

★★☆☆☆

Straight up salmon flavored. Even after rinsing. Not sure how anyone is getting smoky or woodsy aromas through all of the dank fish taste and smell.

Absolutely fascinating, and I'm still not sure how many stars this deserves. Completely smooth, no bitterness at all. The dry tea smells like green hay, the brewed tea smells like a stableyard, and the tea itself tastes more METALLIC than earthy to me. I'm going to have to keep trying it to figure out how I feel, but the complete lack of tannin flavors is a big plus in my book.

I didn't know what to expect. The first taste was a punch. But after I had my first cup it had such a good mouth feel. The 2nd was I knew what to expect and enjoyed it.

I very much love this tea. I was a bit apprehensive based off of a few negative reviews I read, but boy am I glad I decided to try this for myself. This is one of the most unique teas I've ever tried. Both in flavor and aroma. I detect no fishy aroma, nor fishy flavor. The smell reminded me of a hayloft or the smell of fresh shiitake mushrooms. Earthy with a slightly sweet undertone. The flavor matched as well, leading with earthy, woodsy notes. It's an excellent tea for someone looking to build a tea cabinet with a wide variety of flavor profiles!

This tea is very funky and not what I expected. I feel it would make a good base for a blend. It does have very earthy notes that remind me of a damp basement. And if you like those more than I do you will enjoy this.

★★★★☆

On its own, even after giving it a 20 second rinse, this was a bit fishy for my tastebuds. However, in blends, it gives a rich smoothness and a nice complexity.

Great earthy taste and aroma. I can beat describe it as the smell of a barn. But as clean as a barn can be. It doesn't sound good like that but the taste is deep and complicated and absolutely fantastic

This is a very earthy tea! Good, but you have to be in the mood for it. There's a definite difference if you rinse/wet the leaves before steeping. I do highly recommend doing that.

Pu-Erh Dante isn’t a bad tea but for me it’s not enough to buy it again

This might be the frist time I tried a Pu-Erh so not much to compair it to. Its good with a bit of hony.

Straight up, rock solid dark pu-erh tea. No frills to this one- just a good solid tea. No flavors, and no cream or sugar needed either.

Pu-Erh Dante is a tea that will take you on a journey to the mysterious and ancient world of pu-erh. This tea has a complex and rich aroma that combines the earthiness of pu-erh, the sweetness of figs and dates, and the creaminess of leather and mushrooms. The flavor is smooth and full-bodied, with a balanced and satisfying taste of pu-erh, with some hints of fruitiness and smokiness. This tea is perfect for relaxing and unwinding, or for exploring the depths of your soul.

This tea has a smoky aroma and the taste of leather and damp earth. I added just a touch of sweetener and I enjoyed it quite a bit. This is good alone but I really like blending it with other teas to give them a mellow earthy quality.

A classic pu-erh. This tea was dark and earthy. I can see how this would not be to everyone's taste but if you are looking for a FULL bodied tea this one will fit the bill.

This is a lovely earthy Pu-Erh with a slightly mineral taste. Brews up a nice dark liquor. A very enjoyable tea.

It's always a pleasure tasting the delicate earthiness of a Pu-Erh tea. Dante is exceptional. The tea has a smoothness with very pleasant and unique flavor. I make iced tea everyday and absolutlely love this tea since I can get so many seeping from the tea. And I have to say I love this tea after I tried a sample. I love that you don't have to buy a ton of the tea in case you don't like it. Go Adagio. You do a fantastic job.

In the best way possible, Pu-Erh Dante tastes like soil. It gives you the feeling that you've been transported to a rainy forest, with the soil beneath your feet and mushrooms nearby. It has an earthy flavor that is comforting and mellow. No amount of steeping will make it bitter, so it's perfect for beginners

Not that big a fan at first, but it grows on you after multiple steepings.

Extremely good pu-erh, but I'm a little concerned by some of the reviews mentioning a fishy smell/taste. This is a flaw that comes with low-quality pu-erh that has either been rushed through processing or mishandled. My batch didn't have it, but if yours does, it's a sign of poor product, not an intentional feature of the tea variety. It's not going to harm you, but it really shouldn't smell like that.

Delicious light pu-erh with all the rich earthy flavor without any fishiness. Steeped it longer for more flavor. Smooth without bitterness or astringency. Great for multiple infusions. Really enjoyed this tea.

Very unpleasant flavor. I grew up around a farm, and this both tastes and smells of silage. A hay/grassy note is great in tea, but this is damp/wet/musty hay about to mold. Not my thing!

I made this tea at 90c for 5 minutes.

It smells like fish and I didn't even drink it because of that. Quite disappointed considering the rest of adagio's tea tastes and smells fine.

Probably one of my favorite teas. I brewed a pot of this for a tea party and my guests were raving. It's very caramelly and creamy, and the fermented quality lends a deep and rich flavor. Good plain, good with cream, or good with cream and sweetened, really a crowdpleaser.

This tea was awful. The smell was very earthy. Almost like dirt and the taste was so bad, even a teaspoon of honey could not help it.

★★☆☆☆

I have tried this tea a few times with different brewing methods but I can’t get past the fishy smell. Thus time I decided to do the 15 second rinse of which others have spoken, and I dumped that water before brewing the tea at 195 for 3 minutes. The fishy taste might have been ever so slightly lessened but not enough for me to finish the cup.

Now my favorite Puerh! This is a classic puerh tea that tastes like deep earth with notes of fig and cream. Has a velvety mouthfeel and smooth finish. Like most puerh, this is a heavier tea - almost like a stew :) Especially yummy on a damp foggy morning. Plus - all the great digestive benefits!

As a standalone tea, not my favorite. Added into my favorite Earl Grey Cream tea--lovely. It gives a nice undertone flavor.

I want to like pu-erh but I just can't 😔 it tastes like fish and iron to me

Edit: So I happened to brew this for a friend, to see if they like it and if they did I would give it too them. I am now a bit conflicted because it no longer tastes like fish or iron, but has a mellow earthy taste to it. This makes me happy because It literally smells divine but for the life of me I couldn't drink it. I've been keeping it sealed in its bag for 3 month

Delightfully earthy, smooth cup of tea. I'm usually able to get at least two steeps out of this before it loses too much flavor. I'm not catching any of the fishiness that many have mentioned here.

This is my first Pu-Erh tea. Not a big fan. It's kind of grassy, in between matcha and an oolong. Kind of sweet, which I found unpleasant. Kind of had a floral aftertaste.
Update: I've since tried Pu-Erh Hazelberry and can conclude it's a Pu-Erh Dante-specific problem.

This tea is a go-to black tea for me. I love the earthy tones of Pu-Erh Teas and Pu-Erh Dante does not disappoint. Moreover its one of the smother Pu-Erh's albeit a bit bland, but honestly that's not such a bad thing in the age of so many flavoured teas.

It's very similar to other regular Pu-erh tea I've purchased from other sites. However, the bulk pricing is unmatched comparatively. I'm not well versed in terms of the different kinds of Pu-erh, but this one is in no way overbearing funk-wise.

★★★★★

A strong musty flavor Pu-erh. It was too strong on its own but great to blend with other black teas.

This earthy Pu-Erh has been my absolute favorite adagio tea for 20+ years. In my opinion it's better than Poe. It's good for 3 steeps at 5, 6, and then 7 minutes. My children call it my 'dirt tea' because that's what it smells like. The earthiness is prominent but there are subtleties as well. I hope they never discontinue this one

I adore this tea. Some find it funky, but I find it yummy! The first thing I enjoy is the smell. There is just something about it. I can't even describe it properly, it's like a sourness but a pleasant one. On the sip, I love how smooth the cup is due to the aging process. The earthy richness makes my palette sing. The flavors are hard for me to define but there is a forest element, perhaps a nuttiness? Whatever it is, swoon! This one will be in my regular rotation for sure! I stand by my firm belief that puerh makes everything better. Happy Sipping!

Such a mellow and earthy tasting tea. I enjoy this one whenever I want to feel like gardening, and in some ways it pairs very well with a rainy day. I love its flavored cousins like chorange and hazelberry, but Pu-Erh Dante is very comfortable standing on its own two feet without flavoring.

Well, to me this cup smells like a working farm, but the taste is fine. And that's it. Nothing special. It tastes a little earthy, pretty mild. Nothing I would buy again, unlike the pu-erh spice, which is my go-to fall cup.
