Pu-Erh Dante Customer Reviews

A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor and woodsy tones. Clean, damp forest aroma, dried mushrooms, leather, and earth. A slight sweetness of figs or dates yields a mellow, grounding cup.

The aroma is moss-like, the taste is a bit earthy. The flavor is great. fantastic tea!

★★★★★

I can see how this is a love-or-hate tea. I love it. It's mossy but in a good way--no, really. I'm drinking this by the pint, now. I prefer it to the poe variety, because of it's more-robust flavor.

★★★★★

I love pu erh and this one's no exception. Full flavored, and a little goes a long way in my teapot.

★★★★★

The dirt flavor is distinct, but don't let that get in your way - it's yummy, yummy dirt and my current favorite.

This was my first sample of pu erh, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course it's earthy, but I think--with an open mind--one can really enjoy a light, particularly subtle black tea underneath the earthiness, and several individual notes come out pleasantly in the aftertaste. I highly recommend it, but with the qualification that pu erh isn't for everyone.

★★★★☆

Okay, what else can be said about Pu Ehr? Earthy, dirty, muddy? Sure, it's got a bit of a dirty taste, but so did coffee at first. It does take a little getting used to, but it's a very enjoyable tea once you do. PLUS you can steep it several times, and not worry about any bitterness. I'm a fan, for sure.

★★★★☆

This tea tastes just like it smells- a bit like dirt. It is definately an aquired taste. I add a little bit of spearmint when I brew it and it totally masks the dirt-like smell and taste while still giving you a rich earthy tea.

★★★☆☆

It was OK, but I doubt I'll order it again. The smell reminds me of the smell of my dad's pigeon pens. This, as you might imagine, isn't too appetizing so I was a bit soured on it.

★★★★☆

I got this for the medicinal attributes and I thought it would be really hard to drink but it was actually not bad. Dirty potato-ish but in a good way!

★★★★☆

It might taste a bit like dirt, but the taste is fine. I wouldn't recommend it to everybody, but to the adventure-seeking tea drinker, this is an experience.

★★★★☆

This tea was absolutly different. It was good, but not something I would order much of.

★★★☆☆

This tea is okay. Given time I may enjoy it more. It resembles a flavor similar to miso soup. I think it has traces of seaweed which is what I believe gives it that fishy flavor.

★★★★★

I can't say enough about this tea. The earthy taste is something one needs to get used to, but it is simply fantastic. Pu erh cha is the tea the warriors of Genghis Khan took with them as they traveled into Mongolia.

★★☆☆☆

This stuff is very individual. Give a slight entry into cooked puerh, but raw puerh (sheng) is a very different puerh, and worth investigating as well.

★★☆☆☆

This is my first introduction to pu erh. I'm not very impressed with it. It has a mildewy kind of smell to it and apart from being a decent caffeine injection, I don't really plan on getting it again...at least not from Adagio.

★★★★★

~It is true...I love this tea. I was scared by some of the reviews but its smooth taste despite its rich dark color is amazing. Yes the aroma is different but don't let that stop you from trying it with some milk and honey. Makes a beautiful pinkish color. Love it in the morning or mid afternoon. TRY IT!!!

★★★★☆

I thought this was a good tea! It brewed very dark, which I prefer. I didn't think it smelled like dirt per se, but I would describe it as earthy. I am curious to compare it to the pu erh poe.

★★★☆☆

I enjoy a good earthy tea, but this one was a little too much for me. Just like everyone else has stated it's a love it/hate it tea.

★★★★☆

I was glad I decided to try this tea...the reviews were quite varied, and I didn't know what to expect, but I found it unique and enjoyable. It is certainly not something I'd recommend universally, but I think picking up a sample and giving it a try could have a positive result!

★★★★★

This one is interesting. For such a strong, earthy scent, I was delightfully surprise by how good the flavor was. I'm definitely getting this one again! Maybe I'm just odd...

★★★★★

This has a nice, strong earthy taste. It gets very dark and thus makes a good looking iced tea, as well as good tasting.

★★★☆☆

The reviews and description were very accurate - you will either love or hate this. It's very dark and bold, I don't think I'll try it again.

★★★★★

I really enjoyed this. It's earthy but still refreshing.

★★★★★

It does taste like dirt, but I find myself liking that. I wouldn't reccomend putting anything in this tea. Honey just makes it taste odd.

★★★★☆

Nice earthy flavor. Not an everyday tea for me, but sometimes it just hits the spot

★★☆☆☆

I know I should give this tea a chance, but I don't have any desire to drink it again. Smells like compost, tastes like compost.

★★★☆☆

THIS IS A STRONG EARTHY TEA THAT NEEDS LESS LEAVES TO BREW AND LESS BREWING TIME. I LIKE THE PUERH POE MUCH BETTER. I WONDER IF ANYONE HAS LOST WIGHT USING THIS TEA? THE EARTHY TASTE IS A BIT STRONG AND NOT AS SMOOTH. I HAVE NOT TRIED IT IN ICED TEA, BUT I BET IT WOULD BE GOOD ICED. MAYBE BETTER THAN HOT. IT MAY BE GOOD IN A MIX OF TEAS FOR ICED.

Sorry. I've tasted and enjoyed Pu-Erh (made from admittedly more costly little Tuo-Cha 'cakes'). But, as other reviewers have noted, this one did indeed smell & taste stable-like -- and not in any good or redeeming way. I tried it once, then pitched the sample.

★★★★☆

Very earthy--tastes like dirt in the best way imaginable. Great for savoury applications when you need a strong flavour that will show through.

★★★★★

This tea has the look of reduced balsamic vinegar and is definitely an acquired taste. As the description says, you'll either love it or hate it. Highly recommend a sample (or get it via the black sampler) before diving in.

★★★☆☆

I'm not terribly impressed with this puerh...it's certainly earthy, but not as pleasant as the pressed cooked puerh's I've been drinking. Not for me, I'm afraid.

★★★★★

If there is a god, this is his tea. Everyone says it smells like a barn or wet hay or whatever. Oh well -- more tea for me! I seriously think this is the best tea I have ever had. Hot, iced, whatever. Personally, I let it brew a good long time, too -- the darker the better. I'm ordering some pu erh poe and am expecting grand and glorious things from the sounds of it! But this one is a definite winner! [But, seriously, no one I know will go near it! I really do love it.]

★★★☆☆

well, I didn't like or dislike it. the smell reminds me of when you open a bag of potatoes, and I find it tastes like beetroot. I would not order again, but am glad I could taste it.

★☆☆☆☆

I've never hated a tea I've gotten from adagio before. I've never even mildly disliked one. But this is horrid. It tastes and smells like a combination of dirt and fish. Yuck.

★★★★★

Man, I love this tea. It's so unique. If you're feeling adventurous, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

★☆☆☆☆

I like dirt, but was disappointed by this tea. I do not think of the aroma or flavor as dirt-like, but rather as mildewy. It does make me appreciate my other teas more.

★★★★☆

Warning: this tea is described as tasting earthy - meaning like dirt. If that doesn't sound good to you - save your money. If you like to experiment w/ tea or you know you are interested in Pu-erh, this is a great tea to start with. I enjoyed it very much.

★★★☆☆

As others have mentioned, this has a very unique flavor. The smell is reminiscent of old hay, which reminds me of horseback riding. If that's something you like, go for it. If you are anti-barn, you might want to stay away.

★★★☆☆

Good, but the earthy flavor was a bit too strong for my tastes.

★★★★☆

Great for the digestion. I always have a cup if I've eaten too much and feel stuffed, and it really makes me feel better. The taste is unusual, so you have to be ready for that.

★★★★☆

The pu erh dante was very lovely - lighter than lapsang souchong, but still a little smoky tasting. I can't wait to get my pu erh poe sample.

★★★★★

An acquired taste, but I love the earthy undertones of this tea.

★☆☆☆☆

Adagio wasn't kidding when they said you'd either love it or hate it. I'm not crazy about this one in the least. It was too earthy.

★★★★★

I love this tea! It's one of my favorites. High recommended.

★☆☆☆☆

It really tastes like dirt. I was looking for something earthy, but this is over the top.

★★★☆☆

Extremely smokey, even more so than the lapsang variety. I didn't care for it, but if lapsang is your thing, you'll love this.

★★★★☆

All the reviews are correct - it smells like soil. That said, plenty of people try it nevertheless, and when I did, I was pleasantly surprised. The earthy flavor is unique and pleasant if you're in the mood for that sort of thing.

★★★★☆

at first, i wasnt sure i liked this one. it took my breath away the first few times. but i found that this one is better with sugar rather than honey, this brings out the spicy flavor more. i like it. if you like trying different thigs, dont pass this one over, you might just like it.

★★★★☆

i don't have any other pu erhs to compare this to yet, this being my introduction to the tea, but this pu erh has slowly grown on me. first impression was that it smells like a damp basement, but it isn't bitter, and i quickly found myself craving it after big meals. very different, very heavy (perhaps good for former coffee drinkers), and necessitates an open mind. inspired me to search out more pu erhs.

★★★★★

My personal favorite which in my opinion has a more mellow than earthy taste, which is very drinkable without any sugar added to it. Also to date I've yet to have found anyone that didn't like it unsweetened when I made it for them.
