I really liked this tea despite the really earthy barn-like smell.
A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor and woodsy tones. Clean, damp forest aroma, dried mushrooms, leather, and earth. A slight sweetness of figs or dates yields a mellow, grounding cup.

I really liked this tea despite the really earthy barn-like smell.
This is one of those 'love it or hate it' teas, and I LOVE it. Dark, earthy, woodsy, it reminds me of a forest in the Fall.
Pu erh has a flavor all of it's own. I ordered Pu erh Poe and Pu erh Dante this time so that I could compare them. I like them both but would suggest the Pu erh Dante for people that are new to Pu erh teas. It's a bit milder of a flavor. I personally like the leather and earth flavors with a bit of sweetnes and creamy notes this tea delivers. Very nice.
It's not as strong in the fishy taste as Pu erh Poe. The earthy tones are more noticeable because of it.
My first pu erh tea! I was impressed. The flavor is very enjoyable. Highly recommended if you enjoy earthy flavors.
This was my first time trying pu erh and it exceeded my expectations. I was not sure if I would like it when I first opened the bag and smelled it
Compared to the pu erh poe, which had a very fishy aroma, this tea was much more earthy and enjoyable however it still is not among my favorites.
This one isnt bad at all its actualy quite nice I have had pu erhs much better, I bought a sample of this and thats probably all I will buy of this one but I will try the others here also, I do however wish that adagio would give me more info on this tea but thats ok too.
This was my first pu-erh and it was different. The tea brewed very dark and had a earthy flavor. Worth a try if youve never had.
Like others have said, this is a very dark, earthy tea. I wouldn't drink it every day, but I probably will buy more.
This is definitely not my cup of tea. The tea was just really fishy smelling and tasting. I had to add so much sugar to cover up the taste. Not even gonna bother trying the other Pu Erh
This was my first experience with pu erh tea. smells like a barn to me, but it had a good earthy taste. not quite my cup of tea, though.
After a traumatic experience with the pu erh poe, I was understandably very hesitant to try this. But I was actually quite pleasantly surprised! It still had all the strong earthiness of the poe, but without that musty, rotting-grass element.
Love it !! I tried the Pu Erh Poe and liked it, reordered it with a sample of this. I'll definitely be ordering more. Great quality, awesome value and price. It's a great Pu Erh.
When they say to rinse this tea, they don't mean to literal pour hot water over the leaves and away. Stir or steep it half a minute, then discard that, along with the objectionable fishiness. Beyond that, there isn't much depth or nuance to this tea. It's fairly mild and simple, dark without being bitter, less earthy than it is smoky, but not smoky in the sinus-punching way that lapsang souchong is.
Still not sure - the first taste was mellow and smooth. As it cooled it tasted like earthy mushrooms.
Tasted as earthy as I had hoped. A complex tea to be sure.
Very 'earthy' taste to it. My husband and I did not care for it.
We purchased samples of both the Pu-erh Poe and the Pu-erh Dante, to compare and see which we liked best. Pu-erh Dante won hands down. It has a deep and rich earthy flavor, not at all fishy. I only have two complaints:
1) We were only able to re-brew this tea 3 times before it started to lose flavor.
2) Unlike other Pu-erh's we have tried in the past, it is possible to burn this tea, so setting it out to brew and wandering off / forgetting about will not result in the tastiest cup of tea, but honestly, paying attention for 5 minutes so you don't burn your tea isn't that big of a deal.
Very earthy taste, they're not kidding that you'll either love it or hate it.
Like one reviewer already said, the flavors that dominate are dirt and salty-fish. I also get some subtle vanilla notes and a creamy mouth-feel. Think dead-fish and mud smoothly.
If that doesn't convince you to try it I don't know what will.
My favorite tea. It's replaced coffee as my early morning drink. I drink it all day long, often getting more than one infusion out of each pot. But my friends think I'm nuts, they say it smells like moldy alfalfa. To each his own I guess.
This tea was very surprising, very earthy with the flavor of mushrooms. This is the first pu erh I have tried and will happily try others!
I can see why this is a love it or hate it tea, but I am definitely in the love it camp. Very nice mild scent dry which, when steeped, developes into a very earthy, organic, almost animalistic scent. Strong mushroom scent too. The flavor is delicious and perfectly earthy - one of my new-found faves.
My first time having straight pu erh, and I have to say the earthy notes were not over powering and it was a delicious tea
Not that this is a bad tea just that it is not one of my favorites. It is definetly earthy almost dirty. I also get a strong taste of foilage at the end. It actually reminds me of the scent alfalfa can give off after a spring rain in the country.
This is the first time I've tried pu erh dante, and I have to say it was pretty different from other teas I've tried before. It has an earthy, hay-like scent and flavor that will probably take a little getting used to, but is definitely worth another shot if you like trying different kinds of tea.
This was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It really was gentle on my pallet.
Has a very nice earthy smell to it that translates even better into the glass.
I like that its not as bitter as other pu-erh's I've tried. and the smell is not quite as strong
Love this tea! Alone it is a little too earthy, but I blend it with other teas that I have to give it some more flavor. It goes well with Lemongrass!
Great earthy depth. One of our favorites. I don't want it every day but sometimes I just have to have a cup.
It has a funny smell, but it's not bad. I'm not much of a black tea drinker.
I enjoyed the tea but found it pales in comparison to the more balanced earthy taste of Adagio's pu erh poe variety. It tastes dirty rather than earthy.
This was my first Pu Erh. I was really excited to try Pu Erh. This is not good. Horrible smell. Like dirty fish. Tastes like dirty fish also. Good thing I only ordered the sample. I will try some cakes from somewhere else.
I couldn't get past the overpoweringly bitter earthy smell. I couldn't even finish the sample.
Definitely something different, but in a good way. Strong and earthy, and infinitely interesting.
This is a great pu erh tea. Can't go wrong with this.
I drink this tea when I am fasting or dieting. It has a very earthy taste. It's not for everybody, I'll tell you that much. I like it when I have to go bland with my diet,
This was the first time that I tried the Pu Erh teas. I didn't really care much for this one unless I blended it with something else such as Lap-sang.
I liked this one too. A good, overall tea experience.
Really like the flavor of this tea -- it's different -- a bit smoky, a bit fruity, and a beautiful deep reddish-brown color.
The Guinness comparison is apt, but even more so, it's like the tea equivalent of the feeling one gets from some of the best peat-y old whiskies -- one is drinking the earth. Not in the philosophical sense, but the sensual one. And not dirt, EARTH, fragrant and dark. Thus, not as weird as expected. Primal.
The taste is wanting in this tea however it does satisfy cravings.
I like to affectionately refer to this tea as my 'dirt tea'. It's definitely not for everyone, but I enjoy the unusual flavor, dusky and earthy.
I was really pleased with this pu erh. It was earthy, yet smooth.
I read the reviews of this tea and after reading a bunch of 'mixed' or 'negative' reviews I figured I'd order a sample so I could decide for myself.
I can honestly say I understand why some people would't like this tea. It is definitely not your 'normal' tea, and truth be told there is nothing wrong with this. I genuinely enjoyed the pu erh dante, but would strongly recommend that if you are at all interested you tag a sample pouch on to your next order. The worst you can be is out less money than if you got a drink you didn't like at your local coffee house.
The tea definitely does have some 'bite' to it. I think that although the 'dead fish' character that people are talking about is a little bit over the top, but there is definitely a hint of grassy fermentation there, and you can definitely smell/taste this.
Will this be everybody's 'cup of tea'? No, and that's fine. If you're willing to try something a little bit different, and want to try something a little bit different than your 'standard' black tea, then by all means give it a try!
a bit dull in flavor, but does the pu erh trick as a coffee substitute.
Quite unique - I had to go back and read about it after brewing my first pot. The organic, fleshy aroma hits you as soon as the water drops. I like to eat and drink things that scream to my sense of human survival 'you shouldn't be drinking this!' and pu erh dante fits the bill perfectly
Pleasingly different. The fermentation changes it. I wouldn't drink it every day but it's a nice change now and then.
