Hay. It tasted like hay. Well, it tasted exactly like how hay smells. I mean, it wasn't BAD hay... but I'm not a horse.
A rare aged, fermented tea from Yunnan, China, pu'erh stands apart with its uncommonly soft earthy flavor and woodsy tones. Clean, damp forest aroma, dried mushrooms, leather, and earth. A slight sweetness of figs or dates yields a mellow, grounding cup.

Hay. It tasted like hay. Well, it tasted exactly like how hay smells. I mean, it wasn't BAD hay... but I'm not a horse.
This tea is amazing. Many people have written it smells like dirt, horse or fish, but I didn't find any such thing in Adagios' puerh.
The flavor is extremely bold and well-rounded, dark-chocolatish and also nutty-maltish. Reminds me of Assam Tea. The color is pitch-black, like liquorice.
This tea reminds me of swimming in a lake... there is a sort of pungent, earthy smell in the water... this tea tastes like that smell.
There's nothing sweet about it, but it's strangely comforting... not a tea for people with a sweet tooth.
From smelling like fish when dry to smelling like dirt when wet, it turns out to taste pretty smooth and pleasant.
This was my first time trying any pu erh tea and I am in love. This is the perfect everyday tea I've been looking for. Earthy and sweet but never bitter and without any strange aftertaste.
I purchased this as a gift for a friend, and she's told me it is an enjoyable tea.
First experience with Pu Erh, and it kicked my teeth in. I was hesitant with my first few sips, but it grew on me quickly. The flavor can only be described as fresh soil pulled from the very bottom of a lake - earthy, rich, and yes, fishy in a way. Also, it comes out as dark as motor oil.
I honestly haven't had it on its own, but it adds a nice 'smoky' touch when I blend it with other teas.
I really like this tea. It tastes really good and its great in the evening when I get home from school.
Incredibly earthy and herb tasting, but too strong for me. I love it in blends, but alone--the smell is just too much. Not my cuppa, I suppose.
Fantastic earthy smooth flavor that not only pleases the taste buds but the nose as well.
I'm actually a big fan of pu'erhs, so I'm used to the somewhat fermented smell of the leaves, the earthy taste, and the richness of the liquor. But it's not as complex as other ones I've had. Big wet earth notes and some leather, and actually pretty mellow in comparison to other puerhs. It's good as a starter puerh so you know what to expect!
This is the first pu erh tea that I have tried, so I am not entirely decided on how I like this one. The smell in the bag is definitely a little... odd. I get the earthy, forest-like smell, some hints of mushroom coming through. However, it also smells like something rotting, which was a bit unappetizing for me. Once I got past the smell, the tea itself did not taste that bad. If I end up liking this one more, then it will only be because it grew on me, but we'll see.
A fantastic, complex, earthy taste. It's hard to describe, but I love it!
There are some out there who do like this, and that's awesome. Personally, though, I just couldn't do the fishy mineral smell. My roommate was excited to try this, saying she liked the smell in the bag, but the fishy smell that really came out after steeping scared her away from it. I'm not saying it's a bad tea
I am a fan of pu-erh teas and the dante is no exception. With an aroma of mushrooms and leather, this makes a rich, earthy pot of tea that has the added benefit of being able to be steeped over and over again. Such a pleasure to sip on.
Earthy and rich, like upturned soil, mushrooms and smoke. Not for everyday but a beautiful tea when I'm in the mood for it.
This is tea if you like tea. Pu erh is the only tea which is aged and you can tell. It has a nice earthy (read dirt) and fishy (read fish, yeah seriously) aroma and really just taste like more of the same.
While the pu erh poe was reminiscent of horse stables and hay, this was more foresty/mossy. Very nice earthiness.
Very strong and bold tea that I'm not entirely sure I was ready for, but I've been blending it in small amounts with other teas to get myself used to it.
WOW talk about smokey! This is definitely an acquired taste. You can tell from the smell that it's a very strong and earthy tea. It's not for everyone, and if you're not a fan of really earthy and smokey teas I'd stay away from this one.
This smells more 'fishy' than the Pu Erh Poe, but tastes smoother and more full-bodied. I like it a lot and I think I might try tempering the scent by blending it with a flavored black tea. I always add a splash of milk.
No bones about it, it smells like compost, but the flavor is deep, rich, earthy, and full. Definitely an experience! I loved the flavor, and hope to find another tea to mix it with so that smell isn't so bad.
This is my favorite morning tea. I enjoy smelling and drinking it. Although this tea is fine to drink it without sugar or milk, I highly recommend to drink it with milk 2% and 2 teaspoons of sugar. It has an earthy aroma which brings back memories of my childhood in my home country. If you are looking for a tea with a subtle floral flavor this one is not an option.
I was trying this flavor out for a friend who used it to mix a tea to represent The Khal from Game of Thrones.
It sure does smell like horses and grass! For some this may be a turn off as it is very strong if you're not sure what your getting into. However the flavor is great, it's airy and full of foresty goodness.
Eehh...I don't think this was the cup for me. I didn't like it at all, too...earthy, to put it nicely. But that doesn't mean that this won't be the perfect cup for someone else!
I wasn't a huge fan of this tea. I can't really describe the flavor...sour and fishy? Just not 'my cup of tea.'
An acquired taste. The delicate need not bother. The aroma is a perfect match for southern Louisiana - muddy, earthen flavors with the smell of dried fish. There's no way to describe this in a way that sounds tasty, but it is and has become a daily drink for me.
Good tea is good tea, so just because this isn't the cup for me doesn't mean it's not the cup for someone else -- but I didn't finish it. Very smoked-fishy in the bag
This is a very good tasting and nice alternative to the blacks and greens. It was hard getting past the smell though.
I really disliked this tea. It was worth a shot and went in with an open mind but could not bring myself to enjoy the taste. It was too much like drinking moss or wet tree bark. However, I would recommend people to try it because they might like it better.
Excitely ordered this after trying the pu erh poe, this one was not as good for me, it has a very woodsy note to it which I didn't care for.
This tea is delicious! It has a pleasant earthy smell and taste. My first thought when I smelled it was of a walk in the woods.
I love this tea. It has a wonderful smoky, earthy flavor. My Mom loves it too-I had to order more after less than a week!
This was my first pu erh, I was unsure of the tea when I first tried it but as I have finished my sample I have really grown to love it and ordering a larger bag.
When I was in China I purchased a cake of Yunnan Tuocha (Pu Erh). It quickly became one of my favorites. When I got back to the states I looked for a comparable tea and this one is great! I prefer Pu Erh Dante to Pu Erh Poe as it has more 'dirt' and less 'floral' notes.
Pu Erh tea can amazingly be steeped over and over again with minimal loss of flavor and without bitterness. Sometimes I will keep the tea bag all day and just keep adding water.
Please note this tea is different and not for everyone. It is best plain as sugar will change the flavor. It is much stronger than other teas, but unlike normal teas water can be added to it to lessen the flavor. It is almost comparable to coffee. Almost tastes like dirt and that is why I love it. I highly suggest you try a sample of both the pu erh dante and pu erh poe.
When I tried it for the first time, I thought it was horrible. My mom said it smelled like a barnyard. But the more I tried it the more I liked it. It takes a little while to get used to it. I love it now.
I love this tea! It tastes so natural and earthy to me. Just don't picture 'fish' when you are smelling it, picture tree bark wet with rain.
I've tried other Pu-erh teas and found this one to be far too hay-like and astringent. My palate gravitates more toward fishier and grainier-tasting pu-erh varieties.
This is my new favorite tea, hands down. Leather, mushroom, damp leaves.. Very forest-like and pleasantly pungent with a hint of smokiness as well. And who can argue with multiple steeps?
Awesome after dinner tea! Love this tea and found the aroma to be earthy. Not at all unpleasant. This is what I want when work gets busy and we need a tea moment!
Grabbed a sample of this bad boy on a whim...a bit to earth for my regular taste but i found an amazing use for it. Perfect hang over destroyer :] delivers a much need soul boosting second wind when you've had a bit to much the night before :]
I was a little iffy about this one when I first smelled it after steeping (it's a bit different smelling. LOL), but it's actually really, really good! Very smooth, earthy tone to it. Definitely one of my favorite teas!
This tea has an interesting reddish tinge to it. I liked it but not enough to give it four stars. It was good with milk.
Pu erh dante is a rather manly tea. The earthy taste of it almost makes me feel like as if I were camping! All in all, it is a wonderful tea and a great blind purchase.
This was my first pu erh. It has an unusual flavor that took some getting used to, but I enjoyed it.
This was my first foray into pu erh. It was an intriguing mix of forest and sea flavors and had a sweet mellow aroma. Not sure if it is worth the money, or perhaps pu erh is not my cup of tea.
The aroma is nuttier than what I am used to when it comes to pu erhs. The taste is definitely less bold than what I am used to as well. And after 15 minutes, it did not get as strong as I'd like. With that said, I would say this is a good pu erh for those who like milder teas.
This is a fairly mild puerh, but the earthiness is still there, nice and smooth. Good for multiple infusions, mellowing even more each time, this tea is definitely enjoyable in its slight smokiness. Puerh is not for everybody
I'm not that big of a Pu Erh fan but I thought I'd give it another try and chose this to redeem it. While it was much better than my first cup of Pu Erh I don't think I'll be trying it again any time soon.
