I'm finding this one hard to describe, and I was expecting it to taste far more unpleasant than it was. I was not a fan of the smell of it right out of the back, and the brewed tea smelled a little odd, but I ended up loving the taste. It was a lot less powerful and musty than I had expected. Instead, it had a pleasant, loamy flavor that I didn't bother to soften with milk or sugar.

one of my favorite black teas. rich, woody, and extremely versatile...can be blended with just about everything.
★★★★☆
Not my top pick but definitely a very good tea for me.

I am going to say that this tea is good because I think that objectively it's good. Subjectively, Pu-Ehr tea is still growing on me, so I keep it on the shelf for when I am feeling adventurous.

This is another tasty pu erh. I really enjoyed this tea hot, and I will brew some iced tea with it as well.

I love the pu erh, but I'm afraid I just don't care for the dante. The description stated that it had 'Some sweetness of figs or dates...' which interested my wife and I. However, it seemed to have a kind of odd spiciness that we didn't like. We brew up pot of tea to share over breakfast on Saturday mornings. We finished our first cups of this, but not the pot.

Love these pu erh teas! Earthy/mushroomy yet slightly astringent.

The leaves are small, short, and curled. It smells like a campfire after a rainy day, coals and ashes mixing with the dark, wet earth underneath. The liquor is almost completely opaque black, with a reddish tint just peeking out around the edges.
This tea is rich, smooth, and absolutely fabulous. Breathe the scent in deeply; it travels all the way through your body and out the soles of your feet, anchoring you to the world below you. It awakens an almost primal feeling of desire for the earth you stand on. It's smooth in your mouth and seems to travel to the tips of your fingers almost instantly. I like the whiskey comparison much more than the Guinness one; unlike Guinness, it doesn't grab you by your throat and shake you. It's more like a dark, peaty Irish whiskey: It caresses the inside of your mouth and fills up your entire being with dark earth and dying fire embers.
This tea will bring you along the path that its eponymous poet traveled: Through the earthy darkness and out the other side into the celestial heavens. All in a single sip. If I could give it six stars I would.

Not a fan of the pu erh teas. They just don't appeal to my tastebuds.

I was looking for a strong tasting black tea to use in bubble tea. This was a great choice. Makes a strong brew without a bitter taste.

this tea intrigued me like no other tea has. mushrooms? leather? horses? hay? earth? i had to try it and i am glad i did. it didn't smell fishy to me although if it did i probably wouldn't mind. i kind of like those funky smells. it does smell like rotting leaves and a barn. but somehow that is a very good thing. this tea has incredible depth of flavor the likes of which i've never tasted before. each sip is different, but also similar to the last. you pick up more and more notes the more you drink. i can see this becoming addicting. i had a cup hours ago and i'm already looking forward to my second steep! it reminds me of a beautiful fall day, at a pumpkin patch, or at a petting zoo. this is awesome tea. don't pass it up. just try the sample. it is so worth it.

I love the deep, dark flavors of this tea. It's very rich, almost like coffee, but has a very unique flavor, almost savory. I don't drink coffee, and I find this tea to be a good alternative to coffee because it's so highly caffeinated but not as acidic as coffee. It's definitely its own creature, and I love it.

Novice tea lovers may be 'taken aback' by the unique taste of PuErh teas, as I was. I drink many varieties of teas and return to pu erhs occasionally. Then I tasted PuErh Dante and immediately made it my favorite PuErh; I reordered several times in larger quantities. One time a let my cup get cold and decided to try it iced. Exceptional taste iced! My 'go to' iced tea favorite. PuErh Dante taste is complex drunk hot, but, WOW, what an iced tea!!

Nice earthy tea without being bitter. I infuse the leaves several times, first at 3 min, then 4 min, then 5. I may be able to get a fourth pot before it tastes like colored water.

Out of all the fermented tea on Adagio the Dante and Poe are my least favorite. I have had other fermented tea before, however, the taste on the Dante was just a little off putting to me and tasted too much like a bad tasting dirt.

This tea was not bad tasting at all, but there are other black teas that I prefer.

Unfortunately, this tea was not to my liking. Upon opening the bag I received a fishy smell. After brewing and drinking, it reminded me of old fish and dirt.

Pu erh is definitely an acquired taste. I had never tried it before and so I ordered this basic version. I does not have the bitterness of many teas and has a very earthy flavor. I would recommend trying this tea if you have never had a pu erh before and make your own decision!
★★★★★
One of the most delicious pu erhs I've tried. Rich, earthy, forest floor flavors in a deep, dark cup. Good for at least two steepings.

Strong flavored, almost like coffee, but with very earthy almost mushroom like hints.

I was very put off by the smell and taste of this at first, but after doing some research I learned that a lot of pu erh teas need to be rinsed in the hot water first. After trying this technique, I tried the pu erh again and it quickly became one of my favorites. Will definitely purchase again.

What an odd and interesting experience this tea is! It's like you just kind of grabbed a handful of forest earth and made a tea out of it. It definitely does have an odd sort of fishy aroma, but once you get past that and actually taste it it's quite soothing.

This tea is so interesting, it is earthy, yet deeper than a normal pu erh!
★★★☆☆
This one was not my favorite flavor but still an alright tea. A different flavor.
★★★★★
This is a quieter pu'er, not deeply earthy or heavy but still with that quintessentially rich, deep pu'er flavor. I quite enjoy it for mornings at home but would prefer a stronger version for other times. I would also say it's a good starter pu'er if you've never tried any before.

LOVE IT, waiting for the regular pu erh poe to arrive

I am sorry to say that in my opinion this literally tastes like dirt. I know that there are people that love this tea and for them it is great. I am just not that person.

This tea is a trip! I brewed it gong fu style (instructions here: http://www.teavivre.com/info/brew-an-enjoyable-pu-erh-tea/), 12 seconds for the first infusion and adding ten seconds every time after that. The smell reminds me of horses (in the best way) and the taste, especially with a little milk and honey, is pleasingly complex. Each infusion was a new and beautiful experience. I am a large fan.

I had never tried a pu'erh tea before, so I ordered a sample of this with my last purchase. The aroma of the dry leaves is like the smell of the most inviting old book, and after steeping the liquid is a beautiful dark copper color. But the taste is what ultimately turned me off. It's difficult to explain, how the flavor is reminiscent of old fish and a homemade basic soak, yet it's in a way that isn't overtly disgusting. After the first initial shock of the weird flavor hitting your mouth, it's almost kind of nice. Kind of. I actually had to try a few cups of it before I came to the conclusion that at the end of the day this just isn't the tea for me, though I definitely see why some people love it.

I've been pleased with this one. I've been able to get multiple cups out of the same serving with little drop in quality, which is an added bonus.

Good for the fall or winter. Warms you up. A more subtle flavor. It's what I would have in the afternoon. Just something light to warm you up.

I rinsed the leaves first which I had read on many other sites to do before steeping. It seemed to get rid of the fishy smell. I liked this but next time I will try the pu erh hazelberry.

This tea tasted like silage water. It was not to my liking at all.
★★★★★
This tea is so weird and I love it. It smells like everyone else has described--old books, stables, fall leaves after the snow melts. It tastes like a hint of these things, but with a metallic undertone. Somehow that works really well though and doesn't taste unpleasant or overpowering. It's a mellow sort of metallic taste. Overall, drinking it is an unexpected experience but if you like strongly flavored tea it's great!

I got this to try Pu Erh for the first time, and I really did like it, this tea is very earthy and fairly strong, I'd say it's not for everyone, but I loved it anyways. On a side note, I brewed the same leaves 3 times and the tea still tasted good.

My initial thought when I smelled this tea is much like others' have been: 'This smells like a farm.' This didn't bother me much, being from a rural area. The taste itself was very similar, but more earthy, whereas the smell was almost more of hay or straw. The flavor was dark and complex, but delicious. Maybe an acquired taste for some, but I enjoyed the complexity. Pu Erh Dante is the Belgian beer of the tea world.

Got as a free sample, and will buy some. Very rich flavor.

I think this is actually my favorite tea. It's great for blending with other flavors and has a great flavor to it. The best part is that if I brew it and accidentally forget about it, it doesn't go all bitter and terrible. Great for work.
★★★★★
This definitely had a more heavy of a feel to a black tea than I was used to. It tasted more concentrated, even when I used smaller amounts of the tea (1 teaspoon) than I normally do...however, that is one thing I really liked about this tea! I love the strong flavor and thickness. The tea did have earthy tones to it, but was not bitter in any way. very smooth and rich.

Pretty much everything I look for in a pu ehr, woody, earthy, robust yet..refreshing- like a walk through a forest after rain, mushrooms springing up from tangled roots. The site describes the tea as 'grounding and mellow' and I would have to agree. I wasn't surprised by this pu ehr, but I was satisfied. I was looking for a clean, smooth, earthy pu ehr and I found it in the dante.

Funky, mushroomy, earthy. It's really difficult to describe this tea. It's drinkable, but makes me think of peat moss, something brewed from that. I'm not sure I'd buy it again, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Was not expecting this intense of a flavor, not too bad when mixed but very in your face if you aren't ready, very earthy.

Tree bark type flavoring/smell. It would taste great if I could get beyond the earthy smell. I rate this a good because it actually is good and smooth. Am thinking of pairing it with something that may mellow the scent.

I found this tea to be much too earthy for my tastes. It has a damp and mossy flavor, one that reminded me of the forest underbrush. Not a bad flavor, mind you, just not one that fit my preferences. Your mileage may vary.

Many people may not like this tea.You need to like pu erh teas and this one is exceptionally peaty and dark. I would compare it to a temperanillo dark red wine.

Good. Very earthy, a flavor that I associate as very umami. An almost savory tea, very little bitterness even when oversteeped.
