Wuyi Ensemble Customer Reviews

Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. The honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley is satisfying and hearty.

★★★★★

Smooth medium-bodied oolong tea, slightly malty, with notes of chocolate and raisins.

it is very soothing and has delicious overall finish

★★★★★

really enjoyed the taste of this oolong tea with a very short steep

★★★★☆

Not a particularly memorable tea, there is a really nice toasty flavour with a slight mineral after taste. It has the typical smooth mouth feel of oolong teas but I can t really find much to describe it other than that it s nice. Very forgiving, doesn t seem to have a problem with over steeping if you like strong tea.

Wuyi Ensemble is a good, pleasant tea, and it does have a very prominent mineral taste. Surprisingly to me, it is actually mild enough that I like it, me not being someone who particularly enjoys that mineral quality to my teas. I got this one because it said it was a bit smoky, and having recently tried a lapsang souchong blend, I was very excited. Unfortunately, to my palate, I don t detect a lot of smokiness in this oolong. Or, if it is there, then it is a different quality of smokiness than what I expected, and fainter. So all in all, I like this tea, but I don t think I ll reorder it. I think liking this one depends more on personal tastes -- the quality is of course very good.

My favorite wuyi from another company has been out of stock for too long, so I tried a number of wuyi oolongs and this one is a good solid replacement. Nicely roasted, complex flavor, a bit of smokiness, and I am happy.

Update 2018: This is now my only Wuyi and I am very happy with it. I blend a big scoop of Wuyi with a pinch of Golden Monkey and a pinch of a smokey black dragon oolong to make a really tasty lunch time tea with the Wuyi health benefits.

I quite liked this tea! Soft nutty flavors, a little acidic, great with multiple brews.

I tried a sampling of 6 oolongs (Formosa Oolong, Formosa Bai Hao, Dancong Aria, Wuyi Da Hong Pao, and Hsinchu Oriental Beauty) and this was a crowd favorite (along with Hsinchu Oriental Beauty).

Starts a bit vegetal, but don't stop there...Very delicate tea but the nuances are well pronounced after the first few sips...definite cinnamon and honey notes with a caramel finish...love this tea!

My absolute favorite tea now! Smooth flavor, no sweetener required.

I usually drink black teas and know next to nothing about oolongs, but this one is delicious! Complex, rich, satisfying, but still delicate. I ordered more.

★★★★★

One of my favorite Oolongs for many years, love to share with guests; very delicious with deserts!

★★★★★

The description says Wuyi Ensemble, known as Da Hong Pao but I would be surprised if this were authentic Da Hong Pao at this price point. That said, Wuyi Ensemble and Dancong Aria are probably my favorite oolongs offered by Adagio.

★★★★★

Wonderful tea. A sign of a good oolong is the coppery aroma wafting out of my teapot before I put the lid on. Just before the lid goes on, my taste buds and olfactory glands are teased with what is surely to be a fine oolong experience. After allowing for the proper steep time and temperature, my salivations are rewarded with the distinctive minerally sense experience of a hard to replicate finish of a worthy oolong. An oolong for life!!! Well done Adagio!!

Woodsy taste and holds up to two steepings. My favorite.

Adagio s oolongs seem to be hit or miss

★★★★☆

This is very savory, with a vegetable taste that I ve never had before. I like to drink it when I want a snack.

This is a great medium bodied oolong tea. It's leafy, a little chocolately, and it has that nuttiness that the oolong teas seem to share. Give it a try if you're new to Oolongs!

This is the 2nd time I have enjoyed this tea. I liked it better the first time but its still among my favorites!

★★★★★

Complex, earthy. My first oolong, have had lots of black and green, prefer black, green usually too grassy. This is like a black-green blend, a little tannic, a little grassy, but just right of both. Often drink it mid-day, after traditional blacks in the morning.

Warm and earthy, with a richness I normally attribute to greens. Absolutely stunning.

First tried it from a sample sent, but after experiencing it, I will be buying this for as long as they offer it, it's a masterpiece.

Steeped in a ceramic teapot.

This has a nice aroma of grass and hay. I brewed a big too big in temp accidentally though, at least the first time. A good solid oolong, but nothing jumping out at me from the other oolongs, but I'm more of a Pu erh guy.

★★★★★

Combines everything I like about green teas and everything I like about black teas. Nice and strong with a vegetal taste as well.

If I had to pick a tea that tasted of no more than generic tea flavor it would probably be Adagio s da hong pao. This tea brews up an amber-brown liquor with a strong scent of roasted vegetables. The taste I can only describe as tea flavored as you might get from a generic overbrewed bag of lipton tea. However, there s no discernable bitterness to this tea making it a smooth drinking experience. In flavor and feel it reminds me most of a green tea despite the heavy oxidization of the leaves. I m not particularly a fan of green teas, which have to much of a grassy/vegetal taste for my liking and likewise I m not a huge fan of this oolong. I can say positively though that compared to some of Adagio s fruity oolongs, this tea does have a strong flavor.

I really like this Wuyi Ensemble. I'm a big fan of naturally flavored teas, and to experience a tea like this -- that's been flavored with minerals from the surrounding mountains where it was grown, and then semi-oxidized to give it a hint of that oolong peach flavor -- is something really special.

YUM!!!
I'm sad that Dancong Aria has been out of stock for more than a few months! I've been on the hunt for a temporary replacement . I was told the tea harvests have been pushed back due to environmental issues. I've tried 'formosa oolong,' 'formosa bai hao,' and 'fujian rain.' These all tasted about the same to me. But when I tried 'wuyi ensemble,' I was very impressed and happy I found an oolong substitute! It's alittle pricey but if it's worth it, I'll be happy to spend that extra money.

The wuyi was a nice tea, not as strong as I like, but a good all around oolong..

★★★★☆

The mineral notes remain strong in subsequent steeping, while the rest of the flavor drops off. This is a good value Wuyi tea, suitable for everyday use.

I like this tea very much! I am a fan of wuyi.

★★★★☆

I don't know how to describe this tea. I like it but Its nothing spectacular

★★★★☆

Not as refined as Da Hong Pao, though it still has the general flavor I look for in a rock Oolong. Lots of earthy flavors, like wet wood and gravel. It lacks the floral aroma found in higher grades, but it's perfectly good as a day-to-day tea.

A balanced and pleasant darker oolong. It would be nice if a tea at this price point had a bit more nuanced flavors.

★★★★★

A great 'rock' oolong! Great mineral flavor and perfect for multiple steepings!

★★★☆☆

This one also hits my 'meh' button. They say it's smoky, but truly it isn't. It's like a lightly toasted genmai cha without the rice, and it's not like the lapsang at all (whose flavor I can't get enough of, but can't have due to the caffeine- decaf, at some point?). The wuyi is otherwise bland. Wasn't for me.

This was my daily go-to for awhile! Great brewed western or gongfu style. Nice floral notes with a honey peach sweetness.

★★★★★

This tea is a nice compromise if you like the wuyi da hong pao, but not its masters pricetage. It's also possibly a win if the da hong pao's mineral flavor is a little strong for you. Ensemble has all the elements, just milder: fragrant, fruity and very drinkable on the palate, but slighty piquant and the earthiness coming on the finish. I really enjoyed it!
I use a tablespoon of loose tea for a 20 oz teapot. First brew is for 5 minutes, the second and third I leave the leaves to soak.

Nutty and warm! A great tea that I find an excellent compromise between my typical green tea purchases and something a bit darker. If you like typical Chinese-style teas and want something in between a black and a green, go with this.

Sort of like a lighter black tea, that can be re-steeped forever. Warm, mineral but not earthy notes.

My favorite oolong on the adagio teas website...so far lol! Looking forward to ordering some more soon. A honey-colored tea that is very delicious.

I really enjoyed the Master's collection version of Big Red Robe, and this is a very similar tea, but at a much more affordable price point. I liked the Master's version better, but my wallet enjoys the Wuyi Ensemble a lot and I will order the Wuyi when I run out of the samples of both.

It has a unique 'rocky' taste to it, but it comes up quite weak. I have to add some kind of sweetener to it.

★☆☆☆☆

I did not like this sample at all. Personal preference but way too earthy for my taste, like eating dirt.

I love this tea. I wasn't sure what to think from the description, but this tea is becoming one of my favorites. I don't know how to describe its flavor, yes it has that mineral flavor, but in a good way this is something you're just going to have to try for yourself. I will definitely be ordering more.

This oolong was interesting but not my 'cup of tea'. My husband found it to be one of his favorites though.

★★★★★

Wow, I love this tea! It has a wonderful light smoke flavor, along with a buttery toastyness. I will definitely be ordering this frequently. This tea can be re steeped and still taste fantastic for multiple infusions.
