CommuniTEA Sample: I brewed my 3g sample in 50ml of 190* water starting at 25 seconds and increasing by 5 seconds per infusion. Amazing crispness and mineral aspects with just a bit of soft grass and muscatel notes. Really superb.
Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. The honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley is satisfying and hearty.

This was an interesting tea. As others have said the toasty oolong aspects shine, with a mineral-like essence. It’s almost hay-like, in a pleasant way. I’m glad I got to taste it!
Oolong is one tea that I am just learning more about. A nice pleasant complex nutty flavor. I enjoyed it very much.
I really felt like todays communiTEA was a treat! It's earthy, toasty and full of depth. This tea 'rocks' 😉
I’m sorry to say that this is a big no for me. While it was brewing, it smelled strongly grassy, and that’s also all I tasted. I’m disappointed that this one is not for me.
UPDATED 10-3-22: Today's CommuniTEA is Wuyi Ensemble. Upon opening my packet, I had a fantastic amount of tea. I brewed it hot with some rock sugar today and it was absolutely delicious! I would still highly recommend this tea!
ORIGINAL: I brewed my Wuyi Ensemble hot with some burdock and manuka honey. This tea has a fantastic flavor and takes the sweetness of the honey really well. I love this tea very much and look forward to experimenting with it. I would highly recommend this tea!
A complex flavor that I am at a loss to describe. Great color and leaf expansion. Would try again.
CommuniTEA portion: 195 for 3-1/2 minutes. Lovely oolongy-green experience. Smooth, earthy, toasty, yum. Multiple steeps kept on giving.
This is a very nice oolong; there's an almost toasted note with a light, earthy flavor. I ended up getting an almost cinnamon-like flavor at the very end of the sip too which was surprising but very good!
I pried open today's CommuniTEA packet to reveal oxidized and wispy Oolong tea leaves with a pleasant earthy scent. A quick bath in 195°F water for 4 minutes allowed them to unfurl and release their goodness, producing a light-brown Oolong brew.
The Wuyi 'rock tea' style is a unique type of Oolong, with earthy and mineral-like flavors. Adagio's Wuyi Ensemble provides plenty of this unique flavor, with lightly toasted notes to complement the earthy elements in this tea. Much like the Fujian Rain variety, this Wuyi Oolong reminds me of the fresh scent of petrichor, after a clean afternoon rain in the mountains.
This is another great 'rock tea' Oolong, with a more rounded and toasty character, when compared to Fujian Rain. Sit back and enjoy this one, as it's a contemplative cup!
Da Hong Pao is a nice tasty cup. Has a fresh crispness that changes to sweet, savory, and slightly mineral at the very end. The roasted flavor is enchanting, a perfect compliment to the conclusion of a meal. Happy to have tried this today.
This is the best green/oolong tea I've tasted. It's very much a pure tea experience, versus flavored or blended tea. It hasn't the dry mouth feel of green tea, and is a much milder taste than regular oolong. After the many flavored teas I've consumed recently, this transported me to the tea-growing mountains, but with all of the unpleasant edges rounded off. If I could, I would gladly replace all the green tea in my cabinet with this!
An excellent tea. There's a heavenly mineral warmth to it, and a rich lingering 'moody' flavor, kind of like toasted sesame.
Nice complex earthy taste- very enjoyable. Nothing too fancy, but very nice.
Big Love for Rock Tea Oolong! Earthy, Mineral, Delicious!
As I try more teas, I realize that I am not a big fan of oolong teas. This tea was very toasty and rich. It lasted multiple steeps. (Yes, I drank them all). Although this will never be my 'go to' tea, I enjoyed this one.
This is one of my favorite oolongs from Adagio. Nice mineral and bark taste. Very little floral. Complex cup of tea. This captures everything I like about oolong tea.
I thoroughly enjoyed four steeps of this mineral, nutty- favored oolong tea. I enjoyed the second one best but they were all delicious and needed no sweetener. I steeped as close to 190 degrees as I could manage for 4 minutes. I wish I had steeped the last one a bit longer.
UPDATED from 9/17/20: Delicious oolong with a very unique flavor. Love the oolong taste, but this one has a strong nuttiness. It fills my mouth with so much delicious flavorful-ness. And it steeps so well the second time - just steep it a little longer. This is so much more interesting than a plain oolong, and adding 1/2 teaspoon of sweetener makes it very enjoyable. ( 3 mins @195ºF+ sweetener).
Steeped at 212 for 3 minutes.
A very flavorful Oolong tea. I did not detect very much smoky flavor in this tea, but am not complaining. I am a large fan of Oolong teas and this did not disappoint.
On second steep, this tea retains its amazing flavor.
What a delightful tea. Grassy and mineral on the nose with a wonderful flavor. I enjoy my oolong teas with just a sprinkle of sugar and this one was perfect served this way. There was a small bite of spice in the finish that made it stand out from a normal oolong.
I did not like the aroma straight out of the packet at all, but once steeped, it wasn't as earthy/dirty. I still wasn't sure about it, but the first few sips straight-up confused me. I expected it to be... well, I don't know what I expected it to be, but it wasn't this. The flavour was smoother than anticipated, and far more nuanced than I was prepared for. I still haven't figured out exactly what it tastes like to me, but I would drink it again. You know, for science!
In the bag: Just as the picture depicts, this tea has twisted, brittle, dark brown leaves. They range from tan to black.
On the nose (pre-steep): An earthy scent. Slightly nutty, slightly musky. Medium intensity.
On the nose (post-steep): Similar to pre-steep smells, though the nutty note is more prominent. Perhaps also a bit of grassiness?
On the tongue: Grass is more prominent. Nutty notes are quite subtle. Pleasant, mild undertone of earth or umami. A bit of tannin.
Opinion: Though what I call 'naked teas' - those without flavoring - are not my favorites, I can see why others appreciate this one: A complex tea, with subtle layers, and not for mindless sipping. I could spend an hour exploring its nuances.
Preparation: 4 min @ 195 ℉
The players gather
The score seems simple, at first
They start the concert
Feelings are evoked
Complex, layered, evolving
Perfection, Encore!
(Haiku Review)
This is delicious...yum...There is a toasted caramel-y nuttiness that does very well together while I sip. Also very smooth and no bitterness. (195F for 3min)
10/28/2021 - Oh my! This tea is so good! The taste is really complex and changes a bit as it cools. At first the flavor was mineral and earthy...then I noticed a light, fruity sweetness reminiscent of caramel...and light spicy/smoky notes in the background. So good! Another layer of flavor added by brewing this tea with equal amount Yunnan Jig. Mmmmm! Wonderful black tea. No bitterness...just smooth, sweet and brilliant! This is definitely going to be a staple in my tea stash. 2 grams tea, 212F, 3 minutes as I like a stronger taste. Added a bit of stevia. Lovely cup of tea!
10/3/2022 - This is one of my favorite teas! Lovely flavor. I now brew 200F, 3 minutes due to altitude. The taste is even better at the lower temp.
I really enjoyed this smoky, nutty oolong. I tried both cold and warm brewed and both were good. Warm is more smoky and cold is more nutty.
Smells delectable. Tastes like slow-down-and-enjoy-life. Practically perfect in every way. Update 10.22: Yes, it's still an awesome tea.
The minute you pick up the cup, you can smell the mild smokey scent. It has a mellow nutty taste. It pairs well with chocolate cake.
Loved this tea! I will definitely buy this again and it also had a great taste!
I've loved this tea for a couple of years, just haven't reviewed it yet. For me, the description rings very true, with those beautiful toasty sesame notes. I find this one to be comforting and cozy, and soothing to my stomach and soothing for nausea (for me it is, anyway). I like to always have some around, and I prefer to drink it on a day when I'm at home so I can enjoy it. Definitely can get at least three delicious steeps out of it! It reminds me of a version of the yummy oolong at Chinese restaurants, and definitely is nice with food, esp savory.
Although I really like favored teas, sometimes I just want a tea that’s only tea and this is one of the nicest teas I’ve had. Just a pleasant tea to drink while quietly reading. Definitely on my reorder list.
This tea isn't very strong, more of a light oolong. One day I drank the last of a cooled cup and the taste came through even better than when warm - a light, floral taste. I suspect it would make a good smooth-tasting iced tea.
What a wonderful tea this is! It has a light floral aroma to lure one in. The taste changes a bit as it cools bringing out lots of different flavors. I found unexpected fruity sweetness with a toasty honey flavor balanced with the mineral sharpness. Exceptionally smooth and easy to drink.
Steeping to an orange-ish gold hue, this tea frustrated me when trying to write the review. Mostly because I would absent-mindedly drink through entire cups just enjoying the flavor and not think to write anything down! I have reliably gotten three full steepings from a single teaspoon, which makes the fact that I'm writing this on my fourth time making it a little ridiculous.
No bitterness, little astringency, a bit of a mineral taste, bit of sweetness.
This is a nice tea with a very earthy and mild flavor to it.
Great oolong! Can go for at least two steepings! Definitely recommend!
This oolong though I can tell has been roasted is incredibly light. The liquor is very clean and it just slides down the tongue. I’m finding this tea to be quite settling. The complexity of this tea is really appealing. The roasted flavor is followed by both some mineral tones and a slight sweetness. The flavors don’t really start opening up until several infusions in. Then I start getting dark cherries and plum. I’m going to try pairing it with some cherries and see if it brings out the flavor even more. When the liquor cools it tastes like potato. Needless to say this tea is quite the adventure. What is interesting is I haven’t yet experienced any real bitterness until right at the end and even then it was minor. Enjoying this one.
This was a very delicious tea! I loved how subtle it was and definitely had it more than once during the week.
This tea was quite a surprise. The smooth, complex flavors are enjoyable and interesting.I tried this and Fujian Rain as samples and will definitely order again.
A delicious oolong! This brews light, but the flavor is nutty, earthy and mineral tasting. It's a good every day tea. This is a tea that should be sipped and without sweetener/milk.
Best oolong that I've sampled on this website. One of the top oolongs out their period. It is full of depth and complexity. I don't remember getting a lot of smoke which I'm more than ok with, but I did get the nutty, floral and honey notes with some mineral and maybe a little pepper or cinnamon in the back towards the finish. I'm sure that there's some other nuances that I'm missing as well, (just read the description). I would say that for a tea with this kind of depth, you're actually getting a very good deal for this price.
The mineral 'rock' flavor wasn t as strong with this one as with the Fujian Rain tea. I ll have to try Wuyi Da Hong Pao next as I quite liked the stronger mineral flavor. This tea was a bit more on the nutty side. @adagioteas
This oolong has a complex, toasty flavor with a subtle mineral taste. This was a pleasant cup of tea. The straight oolongs hold up to multiple steeps which bring out the layered flavor profile. Definitely a go to for the oolong lovers. Sip, sip away!
Wow! I wasn't expecting much of this tea, but it is delicious! It's the lowest rated straight oolong from Adagio that I have purchased, but it beats Fujian Ti Kuan Yin as far as I'm concerned! I also liked Golden Flower, another Chinese oolong but it's simplistic compared to this tea-- still good, but this is great! I'm at a loss to describe Wuyi Ensemble except to say it is complex and interesting. I intend to have a little gong fu session with this one shortly! For now, I'll simply say that you should believe Adagio's write up of this tea-- they aren't exaggerating how lovely it is. Yum.
I was hoping for something closer to the wuyi oolong that has been sold out for so long. This had somewhat of a mineral taste I was looking for, but the flavor was light. @adagioteas
ก็คือชาจีนที่อร่อยดี แต่ก็ไม่ได้จำเป็นว่าต้องสั่งจากร้านนี้
This is my repeat oolong. I make sure to have this with me when I travel. A smooth and delicate taste. I get multiple cups in on bag.
I tend to like a more sweeter tea, but overall it is a rich tea.
My wife and I really enjoyed this. It had a nice depth of complexity in the flavor notes.
