Overall, this Oolong is good but I wouldn't grade it above that level. I have a 0 to 10 rating system. The Wuyi Ensemble I rate at 8.9, which according to my taste buds, I wouldn't order again.
Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. The honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley is satisfying and hearty.

Lovely mid-dark oolong. It has more of a mineral depth than Ti Guan Yin, but is a bit less savory than Pouchong. We got three steeps out of theses leaves, starting with 185F water for 2:30.
The Wuyi 'rock' teas are my favorite style of oolong. I love the darker quality and flavor profile. The roasting process creates a toasty note which I savor and the minerality of the oolong is very prominent in this style. The umami of nuttiness and sesame flavors shines through in the sip with a hint of honey on the back end. This is a multiple steeper, so it is a tea for a day when you are taking it slow. It deserves the time for contemplation. The Master's version of this is swoonworthy, but this affordable version holds up well in my book! So if you love the higher end Da Hong Pao, let this little gem surprise you and your pocketbook. Happy Sipping!
I was on the search for a roasted oolong and I was very happy with this - very tasty and a little toasty
I really enjoyed this oolong. Brews on the lighter side of oolong spectrum (unlike red oolongs). Very smooth, nutty, sweet brew with light mineral notes. I enjoyed multiple steepings (going up to 5-6 mins on subsequent brews).
One of the best oolong teas I’ve had that made me want to throw away all the previous ones I purchased before using Adagio. Flavorful with a heavy depth that solidifies its spot in one of my top teas @adagioteas
Cold brew/iced. Very delicate flavor but holds up cold, though won't last more than 2 days in fridge. Tastes like honey suckles
Beautiful aroma, very drinkable tea, darker than I expected
Original Review: This tea was absolutely amazing! If all I had was this tea in my tea supply I would be more than happy to drink this everyday. I originally tasted this from a sample box. After steeping 3 or 4 times I added a bag to my cart and purchased it. I usually try to choose my tea based on health benefits more than flavor. Wuyi has 5 stars in both of those areas for me! I read that this tea could reduce the effects of cholesterol, protect against cancer, strengthen bones and protect against tooth plaque and decay. I do agree, the flavor is a slight honey-like sweet and it has a somewhat nutty layer. I also tasted the hints of white sesame and a slight warming caramel taste with that was present with different steeps. The flavors were multi-layered, and yes, satisfying. Wuyi ensemble would go well at anytime of the day, and it would be a good tea to sip with food or even sweets. I steeped using my Kyuso pot resulting in an amazing roasted flavor that was almost hypnotizing and mentally transported me to the Wuyi mountains. I usually want to share my teas, but I have been hiding this one. This Oolong loving teacher gives Wuyi Ensemble Rock tea an A+!
UPDATE: Still my favorite! I recently bought a bigger bag and wanted to update my review form the smaller sample. I am keeping the 5 stars and if it was possible I would add 10! This is my love tea. The first layer of flavor brings me immediately to imagine I am sitting by the cleanest, purest, shallowest stream in the world on the top of a mountain. The next flavors are layered and are even more amazing. If I could describe the second flavors I pick up it would be what I would get by leaning down to drink from this pure flowing water off the pebbles in the stream. This tea is absolutely amazing. I will sometimes steep it 4-7 times, not wanting to waste any of the essence that might still be present. I will have several teacups full of it sitting on the cool countertop all day and overnight for the most calming experience throughout the day and first thing in the morning. This steeps well in the Simplicity and would be perfect brewed in a Gongfu teapot. I don't have a Gongfu teapot so I used my Japanese Kyuso teapot (I know, not proper tea etiquette). My Kyuso teapot made a delicious steep as well.
I tried this tea last year and I liked it better. Maybe this year it is less roasted. It is a good tea and I recommend it to those who enjoy light-roast rock tea.
This was a nice, mild oolong. A little bit roasty and re-infused well.
This is a solid oolong, and is my go-to for making iced oolong.
The more I drink this tea, the more I love it. It is one of the teas I can actually use the leaves twice and still get a lot flavor. Anxiously waiting its return.
This is one of my favorite Oolong teas. It has a beautiful floral note and depth of flavor.
Really smooth oolong tea.i enjoy it alot. Definitely going to get more.
Not my favorite tea but the smokiness is nice on cold nights
I tried this through CommuniTEA and really enjoyed it but wanted something a little more economical so I got Fujian Rain. Wuyi Ensemble has a mineral, almost earthy taste but shares a lot in common with Fujian Rain. My pallate isn t as discerning as others may be but I quite enjoy this oolong.
Earthy smell and full flavor when brewed strong (1 tablespoon tea to 12 oz water). Got two steeps at the peak caramel taste and color.
The brew is much darker with this oolong and the caramel and sweet notes became more pronounced as it cools. Not one of my favorites but it is a very pleasant for when I m in the mood for an oolong but want more of an umph.
This is my preferred oolong tea at the moment. Typically I have not been a big fan of this style of oolong, but this particular brand has changed my mind.
It's a solid oolong tea. I don't think you can go wrong with it.
A beautiful, smooth tea that had me coming back for more. Great quality and fragrance. A lovely tea to take your time savoring.
This is a great tea for a gongfu session. I like starting with short steep times of about 45 seconds and gradually increasing up to 3-4 minutes to experience all the different flavors that come out with each infusion. The aroma is a sweet fruity-floral with wisps of smoke. The first couple of infusions taste smoky with a predominant mineral rock flavor and a light fruitiness in the background almost like papaya. Later infusions bring out some honey and chestnut flavors. It has a light body and long finish with a subtle caramelized sugar aftertaste. Overall a lovely roasted oolong that evokes images of misty mountains and is perfect to savor on a rainy day.
This was another tea that I found unpleasant. A very strong vegetable overtone.
I love the unique flavor on this oolong! More earthy and less floral than a normal oolong. Almost mineral in taste. I really love it. Reduced a star because it only lasts for 2 steeps. Quality oolongs usually have flavor even with a 3rd steep.
This is a delicious tea with a buttery mouthfeel and lots of flavor. I am a fan of oolong tea and this is going to the top of my list. I brewed it at the higher temp as my kettle does not have multiple settings. It did not seem to affect it.
It's a nice kind of on the darker side of flavour of Oolong teas, not 'sweet' by kind of toasty, like the browned edge of a cookie.
i <3 this tea, because you can steep it for a numerous amount of times and the flavor changes slightly each time. It is a good afternoon or dinner tea.
Very nice flavor but not strong enough for me. I have tried several oolongs and I have realized it is a weak tea. Good, but not purchase worthy for me.
I enjoyed this oolong. It has a nutty scent and a delicate, balanced taste. Unlike some other oolongs, this is neither overly bitter nor super flowery.
grassy and smoothe, with a rich almost caramel note that hides any trace of astringency.
I like the flavor of this tea a lot. Its earthy in a way. Deep taste and closer to a black tea but not bitter. Very smooth mouthfeel. Has a smokey quality too. This is right up my alley. Definitely want to buy more in the future.
A smokey flavored tea that is light and not syrupy.
This is my very favorite daily drinker. It has a great mineral taste with a nice foresty nose. I usually steep at least twice.
There wasn’t a lot to this tea. Very mellow and uninspiring. I can’t get very many infusions out of it either.
This was a tea experiment for me - I normally drink more of the flavored black teas, but I've been trying to expand my horizons. Definitely more subtle in flavor than a black tea, it has some grassy notes without ever going sweet like some white or herbal teas go. A calming and grounding tea.
Excellent tea. Nice, light grassy flavor (not overpowering). Tasty!
A very nice cup of tea, on the first steep you get more of the mineral flavor and a hint of the fruity character of the tea. Each additional steep reveals more of the smoky sip and caramel finish that make this tea a pleasure to drink. Went very nice with my dessert
Pretty happy with the gamut of flavors that come out across each sip
a great oolong, taste is a perfect middle between black and green. smooth but flavorful with a light sweet aftertaste
I love the mineral, rocky flavor of this tea. It makes for a nice change from the floral oolongs I usually drink. Highly recommend!
I'm a long time fan of Wuyi Ensemble. It's more intense than most oolong teas, so if you like a stronger tea give this one a try. It takes a little getting used to but after the first sip or two you'll appreciate the flavor!
Really tasty toasted oolong! It reminds me of a hojicha but a bit smoother and more complex.
A very complex slightly smoky, rocky and nutty taste. Full of flavor!
This was another oolong I auditioned for my tea cabinet. I like it, but I don't think I would order it again. I adore the name, however.
I love Formosa Oolong so I thought I would try this tea. I love this tea. This has an earthy flavor with hints of a chocolate finish.
I was hoping for more. It just seems to lack flavor overall to me. It wasn't bad, just not for me.
Very similar to the Dragonwell green in my opinion, has those same kind of delicious toasty notes, this tea didn’t last long in my cupboard!
Love the caffeine boost in this tea and it tastes so earthy, sometimes you need to stop in life and take a few sips of an earthy. What better than this one. I really do enjoy all of Adagio teas, there are not too many that I have yet to say I do not care for because I love them all!
Loved it. One of the best loose Wuyi teas that I’ve had in a while.
