Wuyi Ensemble Customer Reviews

Oolong from the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. Savory aroma, roasted vegetables. Faint pit-fruit notes. The honey-floral flavor and nutty, with white sesame, sweetened burdock root (fans of Japanese sweets, anyone?) or barley is satisfying and hearty.

I am a fan of oolongs so it's no surprise that I love this tea. The tea has such a complex flavor that no other inclusions are needed. It holds up well to multiple infusions as well. Iced is also a good way to enjoy this tea later in the afternoon.

Dry in the packet, it smells like rain. Brewed I could smell floral notes. I found it a little difficult to scoop out with my teaspoon, may need to measure with the heart or pull out a scale. The taste is earthy and mineral, light and transforming.

A mineral and smooth oolong with deep flavor and interesting, subtle, toasted-ness. I also pick up hints of my 40winks tea from last night unfortunately, so I can't give this tea quite the attention it deserves. My steeper needs a good cleaning and I need more of this tea!

Once again, oolong, you do not disappoint! Wow! So much earthy flavor; as in a deep dark chocolate kind of earthiness! There is a slight mineral taste, but oh so smooth. Definitely a double steeper with this keeper☕☕.

This one seems to have an earthy mineral like taste to it. It's funny how some people describe this as nutty or smokey or earthy. Such a wide range of views on this one.

I love my Chinese oolongs, and Wuyi Ensemble is an excellent one. Fujian teas are some of my favorite and the rocky, minerality from the Wuyi mountains shines through in this tea. This dark roasted oolong takes you on a journey from first steep to last with notes of minerality, smokiness, and bits of vegetal all blended into a smooth, yet complex sip. I much prefer this one gong-fu style instead of western brew and can easily go 4-5 steeps with it.

Oh yes, this is so pleasant! Tastes like sweet soft hay in the sunshine with a caramel aftertaste that lingers. This is not a tea for hurried days.

Wuyi Ensemble is a dark oolong tea that will fascinate you with its roasted, woody, fruity, and floral aroma. The dry leaves have a dark brown color and a rugged and robust shape that reflects the rocky terrain of the mountains where they are grown. The brewed tea has a full-bodied and complex taste, with a smooth and sweet flavor that has hints of peach, orchid, and charcoal. Wuyi Ensemble is a tea that will intrigue you and please you both.

I’m wondering if I did something wrong, since I see so many positive reviews. Will try again, but I’ve just made two cups of this tea (for me and Mom) and we both found it bland and boring. Love other Adagio teas (all the breakfast teas and others, especially Darjeeling Puttabong Summer), and will continue to purchase from Adagio, but no more Wuyi Ensemble.

As a huge fan of wuyi da hong pao I decided to give this wuyi ensemble a try and I really enjoyed it. Had I tried this before having wuyi da hong pao this would of been a 5/5. Regardless, this tea is a much better value but it doesn't quite have the silky smoothness of its more expensive cousin. Great for re-steeping 2 or 3 times. .All in all, if there was a 4.5/5 that's what i would rate this excellent oolong that has a redeeming quality making it easy to add this to your daily rotation. Impossible to get tired of this one, recommended.

Pleasantly balanced, nearly no astringency on the first steep, similar minerality to Fujian Rain, but less pronounced, brown sugar notes taking a more central place on the flavour profile, alongside chestnut notes.
Second steep was 3 minutes, slightly more astringent, slightly more mineral taste.
Third steep was another three minutes, markedly paler, thinner flavour and body. Not apparently any more astringent than the second steep.
All in all, a magnificent oolong, which shall become a staple to my collection.

One of my favorite oolong. It always hits the spot. I like it brewed on a teapot or I do it on a gaiwan. Either way a very lovely tea

Pretty good for what it tries to do, only a 4 star because there are so many better black tea options at this store. Hard to top the delicious selection they have here.

Tastes nostalgic for reasons I can't explain. It really does have a mineral finish from the Wuyi mountains it came from.

Roasted oolong! This tea gives the classic minerality of a good oolong with additional smoky notes. Great but not overpowering like other smoky teas.

There is a lot going on with this tea and harder to describe. Right out of the teapot it smells toasted, maybe toasted quinoa? But, it quickly starts to give off a light jasmine-like floral scent. The taste is maybe a bit caramel, with that lightly toasted flavor. The floral scent comes through a bit in the flavor, then turns more into a honey flavor. A noticable mineral mouth feel. It is otherwise not dry and it's not astringent on your throat. I tried it with a dash of erythritol, and then tried it with a little oatmilk. It's best either plain or with just a tiny dash of sweetener. The milk didn't add anything to the tea. This is really complex and
really good.
Edit: I did a second steep and it's a completely new tea! It lost its toasty quality and is now very honey like and fruity, maybe like melon. It also didn't lose any flavor (meaning it didn't get watery), the second steep is also an excellent tea! I'm impressed. (I did 5min at 195 for the second steep)

I like the big leaves of this tea which allows for easy dump and clean. I like the light color of the tea. The taste has a rich, earthy, and nutty taste with mineral notes. Plain tea drinkers should not be disappointed with this one.

As unflavored oolong goes, this is a solid option on the higher oxidation end: lightly sweet, slightly smoky, good for multiple steepings though quite mineral initially. I did add a touch of honey after the first few sips as too mineral a tea feels dry for my personal taste but this will likely not be an issue for most. Even in one 12oz mug there were several flavor differences as it transitioned from hot to cool that were fascinating and well worth a try.

A wonderful easy sipping oolong with a lovely natural sweetness. No additions are needed to enjoy this flavorful tea with a delightful mineral tang, a gentle floral taste and a slightly nutty finish. It resteeps well too. A touch of agave nicely revives the flavors mellowed from the first steep. This moderately caffeinated tea makes a relaxing cuppa anytime of day or night before the no-caffeine time begins in earnest.

My Ct packet had 3 g/ 3 tsp of long brown twisted tea leaves that unfurled into full leafy silhouettes. Brewed 12 oz. at 195*F for 5 min. The light brown liquor had a flavor much like its aroma - a whisper of floral with an earthy mineral tang. No bitterness was detected and there was no notable astringency. This smooth cup of delicious oolong offered a moment of sweet calm on a very busy day.

Oolongs are not really my thing. I did like the complexity of this one. Really nice cup, with a green tea like finish.

This is a pleasant dark oolong, sweeter and lighter than the Formosa Oolong but not as sweetly floral as Adagios Da Hong Pao or as gently sweet as its Dacong Aria. I recommend soft water and short brewing times for this one if you want to enjoy the caramel/honey notes, and harder water at lower temps to bring out the nutty, sesame taste. Coaxing floral or fruity notes from this one is hard, probably easier from quick gong fu brewing than anything else, as this tea can easily become too mineral or too dark for enjoyment. It's fun, unique, and versatile, but definitely more difficult to coax and less pleasant compared to the Da Hong Pao and the DaCong Aria.

I highly anticipated this tea, and like many things one highly anticipates, the anticipation is better than the actual event. Though I enjoyed Wuyi Ensemble, it left me somewhat underwhelmed. (Granted, that might be that it had the misfortune of coming up in the CommuniTEA rotation just after I came down with a cold.) The aroma of this tea is more interesting to me than the taste. I picked up burnt notes, which I now attribute to the smoky characteristic of this roasted oolong after reading the description, and cocoa, yet those scents don’t really carry over into the flavor. The brew definitely smells smokier than it tastes. The flavors are more of the mineral notes typical of oolongs. Similarly, the brew has the smoothness typical of oolongs as well. There’s enough natural sweetness to this tea that even the addition of a single piece of rock sugar made it too sweet for me. Perhaps the best thing about this tea is that it does stand up to multiple infusions; I managed to get three good steeps out of my single serving portion. (3-5 minutes @ 190F)

It is challenging to drink down your stash when you have teas as tasty as this one which holds up to multiple steeps. Got 3 delicious cups from my Communitea sample. This mineral and slightly toasty oolong was the perfect tea for a chilly, rainy fall day.

What a pleasant surprise! I'm often put off by mineral tastes, but those were low to none with this tea. It's got a darker taste to it - not burnt, but with a sweetened nuttiness to it. Definitely a hint of caramel as it cools and hits the back of the tongue. Added a little dark agave and it boosted the caramel, deepened it, and really extended that natural nut flavour into something else really quite delicious. One worth trying!

CommuniTEA 10/3/22: I'm surprised I hadn't reviewed this one already because I know I've had it at least 3 times before and enjoyed it. This oolong is malty, nutty, slightly floral, and reminds me of plum pits. I decided to drink this with dinner and it paired well with a vegan smoked Gouda.

This oolong has a light toasty/nutty/mineral taste to it, with a surprising sweetness in the finish. It holds up to several steepings easily, with little fading of the flavor. I am really starting to appreciate oolongs more with each one I try with the CommuniTEA.
