I can't pin point what it is about this tea but the flavor is different from any other that I've tasted. I would order again but it's really expensive.
From the WuYi Mountains in Fujian, China. These oolongs are highly prized for "yan yun" or "rock taste." Rich aromas of roasted vegetables, sweet honey, river stones. Delicately spicy, rounded texture, pit-fruit flavors, and subtle peach juiciness.

I can't pin point what it is about this tea but the flavor is different from any other that I've tasted. I would order again but it's really expensive.
I wanted to really like this but the flavor is a bit too subtle. has a nice mineral flavor but for the price I expected a bit more.
I am an amateur when it comes to tea tasting, but after sampling wuyi da hong pao, I realized I am eager to experience other 'masters' teas. I did try another in the same order and was far less impressed in comparison. I found the wuyi da hong pao to be somewhat nutty, with a depth of flavor that I found very soothing yet stimulating to my palate.
I find that this is a very delicate tea, both in flavor and aroma. I first tried it when I made some Chinese stir fry and it went with the meal beautifully. I next had it by itself and it have to say that the flavorings are subtle and could be missed if you gulped the tea or drank it absentmindedly.
This tea was good but not great. We were a bit disappointed in the flavor notes.
This is now my New Favorite Thing. There is a lot going on. I taste a river stone. There's some 'green' in here, as well as a hint of peach. I've so far steeped this three times and it has been a delight each time. I'm extremely glad I had the opportunity to try 'Big Red Robe' at an affordable price point!
The 'wuyi da hong pao' is a good tea. Thank you for making it available here in the United States.
great isn't a good enough word for this tea. wow!! this tea is extraordinary.
Smooth, smokey, and well rounded. My wife and I love the rocky flavor. I bought a sample for my wife, and she enjoyed it so much that I went ahead and got her the full oz. This is a very, very good medium dark tea. Unfortunately, unlike the original sample, the 2oz shipment contains a lot of stems. some quite large. So, in order to get the best cup of tea, I have to spend time picking out at least the larger ones. Minus one star for that.
This was my first foray into oolong and I thoroughly enjoyed the delicate flavors of the tea. A nice mild tea with a unique taste, da hong pao was a nice introduction to oolong and I would buy again. Quite a solid addition to the collection.
I really liked this tea. I wanted to try it because i'd never heard of it and the description sounded delightful. It did not disapoint
I like this tea, but for the price, I will be trying the non-Masters version before buying this again.
This is a very resilient, high-grade tea that certainly lives up to its reputation. Steeping it anywhere between 200-212 will result in the light golden-brown desired. The taste is very complex. it brings a sharp mineral taste upon hitting your tongue, but leaves with a savory, salty note. You can definitely steep it multiple times, and each will deliver the same solid flavour. Two ounces will take you a long way with this tea, so dropping $40 is honestly a bargain for the quality and longevity.
This is a very nice dark oolong. One of my favorite teas here is wuyi ensemble, and this tea is similar in flavor and aroma. I've just gotten back into drinking tea, so I can't really compare the two right now, but I don't think this tea is amazing enough to pay three times as much as wuyi ensemble, based on my memory of that tea. Still, it has a heady aroma and it's making me happy enough to replace my usual glass of red wine at night. :)
Sturdy is the word that floats throughout the cup...and subsequent steeps as well. I enjoyed each one thoroughly. Deep, with slight sweet notes and savory undertones :) rawwwwwwrrrrrrrr
i personally am not a fan of dark oolongs, but that said the smooth and earthy with slightly sweet aftertaste just made my day. A tea perfect for my Friday afternoon.
I think this is a very nice, smooth oolong tea. Nice earthy flavors without being too much. Not sure I agree with the sweet or spicy descriptors - those flavors aren't pronounced to me. It's a great special occasion tea.
Very good. Probably a variant, so the uniqueness is not as acute as hoped.
This is definitely better 'da hong pao' than the one I buy from other stores. Now I no longer dislike 'da hong pao'.
This is a really lovely oolong. It's quite complex with some mineral and vegetable notes along with deeper roasted and honey flavors. It also had some notes of peachiness, so it was very well rounded. I really have enjoyed this one - it's a really high quality oolong. One of my favorite evewning cups of tea.
Very nice! This could become one of my favorites. Wonderful with honey.
It's a decent tea with some very subtle notes to it.
You can taste the tradition, but I prefer Keemun concerto but this is close
I enjoyed my sample of this tea. It had some complex flavors but I don't think its worth the premium price over the Wuyi Ensemble.
I recently learned that this was one of the most expensive teas in the world, and so I naively expected it to be delicious. However, once brewed, I noticed a mineral aftertaste that didn't really agree with me. Like many expensive delicacies, this one is for the connoisseurs, probably an acquired taste. I'll use up the sample I bought, but I'll stick to more mainstream teas in the future.
I really liked the flavor, but this tea isn't strong enough even with ample leaves and steep time. In my opinion. I would buy the same variety of tea, Red Robe, again, but not the masters version.
i enjoy trying out different teas! of course i am a beginner so my tastes are just forming :-D
An outstanding master tea! It is a bit pricey but it definitely offers a complexity and quality that justifies the extra cost.. This tea is a real pleasure, Bravo Adagio!
really enjoy this tea for a refreshing daytime tea.
I'm glad I tried this Wuyi. I can see it's appeal, and while I enjoyed it I didn't enjoy it enough to order it again. Pouchong and Ti Kuan Yin remain my favorite kinds of oolong.
Brews lighter than I expected, but nice nuanced flavor.
Purchase this for my husband. He is strictly a tea drinker and loves this one.
Very good cup of tea! Roasty and sweet in excellent combination. First 2 infusions are excellent, but it quickly loses steam after that.
The best I've ever had. I'ts pretty expensive but its worth the money..I bought a sample, but now I'm planning to get more
This is a good tea. I am not sure I like teas from Wuyi as much as others.
A new tea for me and enjoying it. Will be ordering more of this one.
Keep the oblongs coming! like the plain, no flavor added ones, so please, keep the simple teas coming! Love this oolong!
So far my favorite of the master teas and I prefer my oolongs on the green side but this one is special. It has a nice rocky flavor, and is more subtle than your typical highly oxidized oolongs
Great full-bodied tea. I had to try it after watching 'Death in Paradise' and am glad I did. This is one of my 'treat' teas that I only brew when I feel like a little comfort with a touch of 'Yes,I do deserve this.'
It took me a really long time to develop a taste for this tea. This is slightly more subtle and refined than the Ensemble, which I finally began to enjoy recently. And while I like it, the nice thing about this tea is not being smacked in the face with 'rock taste,' but it's not quite as sweet. The price difference isn't even that bad. I'm really glad I tried this tea.
A distinct oolong with a hint of fruity sweetness.
This tea is delightful to drink! I just drink this tea and just sit back and relax.
i've ignored adagio's instructions for this tea. It is much better if you steep this as follows:
2 teaspoons per 8oz
202 degrees
30 second rinse, and dump the tea.
First infusion at 202 for 1 minute.
Add 30 seconds or a minute to each infusion.
You can get at least 7-8 cups out of it this way and each cup has a little different flavor. The best cup is around 4-5 imo.
This has to be one of my favorite wuyi's I've had. a babbling brook really does come to mind when drinking this. the mineral-y taste any self respecting wuyi has, the earthy taste, the warm sunshine attitude of it as a whole. If only it weren't so expensive :/
This tea was ok, definitely earthly, and could taste the 'rock' flavor, will not re-order, but glad I tried it for the experience.
I believe everything the highest voted review on this is tea says. Adding on to that this tea isn't worth the price.
I don't like darker oolongs that much, but this one is pretty good. Definitely will buy again.
I really enjoyed the complex flavors in this tea. It is smooth but has some different flavors that make it a pleasure to drink.
This is another one of those teas that is very difficult for me to pick up any of the stated flavor profiles that I might get from this tea. Steeped at four minutes and consumed with no adjuncts. This tea is very light in body and really does not produce much in the way of flavor. I do get the very slight taste and feel of minerals on the sour receptors on my tongue and that's about it. My choices in teas have produced a few teas of this flavorless noticeability and go straight to the back of the line for future purchases. Most of the teas in this classification have been green teas that would make for a nice light dinner tea. This oolong tea would serve nicely here.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tea. Its simple, to the point, and is a great every day tea. I will be purchasing again in the future.
